Replaced back feet Sturdy Very good overall condition, This antique bureau desk was hand-crafted in Victorian England around the year 1860. Today the antique mahogany remains as beautiful as ever. With a rich complexion and a striking grain. Satinwood string inlays and flame mahogany crossbanding adorn the fall, providing a lovely contrast. Each drawer features hand-cut dovetails and solid brass pulls. The brass escutcheons, while quite attractive, no longer house functioning locks. Each side has developed a separation in the mahogany as part of the wood's natural aging process; these age separations are purely cosmetic and don't affect the structural integrity of the piece. During a past restoration, a line of black stain was applied to these separations to complement the actual dark inlay around the bottom. The fall has also become uneven over the years and has sustained some wear to the corners but remains, like the rest of this piece, very sturdy. Finally there are a number of minor wear marks and the back feet were also replaced during the restoration. Overall this antique bureau remains in very good condition and would make a fine addition to any home or office furniture collection! This gorgeous mahogany bureau was hand-crafted in Victorian England around the year 1860. This bureau contains plenty of storage space. The sides look great. Governor of Massachusetts Bay Colony. The desk is a reproduction made by the Maddox Table Co. of Jamestown, New York. This desk comes right out of the New England estate. The desk has those wonderful features most folks are looking for, such as all-wood drawers with dovetail corners, and clawed feet. The hardware and locks are the originals that came with the desk, not replacements. The desk was in my family for around 60 or so years, so the desk dates to at least 1950, and it may be older than that- I'm just not sure. The desk is the slant-front style, hinged at the bottom, so it opens up and the front lays flat to become the writing surface; the desk front can be locked. When the desk front is opened and lowered into the writing position, two arms come out automatically to support the writing surface. Inside the desk there are 3 small drawers, and holders for stashing letters and so forth. In the center of the opened desk, inside, there is a closed compartment with no lock; the compartment door is scratched. There are 3 drawers below the writing surface that extend almost the full width of the desk, and each one of them can be locked. These drawers have a graceful bow front(see photos) Above the desk itself is a prominent feature, a bookcase with 2 shelves covered by hinged glass doors that swing out and can be locked. The bookcase doors do not line up 100% vertically when closed, a common problem with these desks. This doesn't mean that you can't close them or lock them when closed, but it is something I should point out. Above the bookcase is decorative trim with a twin swan&#

Here is an absolutely gorgeous antique mahogany desk with lovely burl mahogany veneer and border design inlay. Circa 1840 and American made. This slant front desk drawers. The desk stands 43 inches tall and measures 38 inches wide by 21 inches deep, front to back. The writing surface itself is 36 inches wide by 21 inches from front to back. The surface is beautiful and in very good condition. The inside of the desk also reveals 16 small drawers and an additional cubby with lovely inlay door as shown. Below the desk slant front. T here are four large drawers. Each 31 1/2 inches wide and 18 1/4 inches front to back and then 2 3/4, 3 3/4, 4 3/4 and 6 inches deep respectively, in descending order. Turned legs and glass door bookcase or storage& display cabinet above and three large functional bureau drawers below. I've detailed the restoration work this lovely piece will need to bring it back to it's former full value in my detailed description of condition above and in my multiple photographs included to accurately represent the design, quality, condition and construction as well as the overall beauty and potential of this marvelous old piece of mahogany furniture bargain priced as a restoration project. It has had a few small professional repairs to the veneer previously. This wonderful cabinet travels easily in two pieces and stands 68 1/2 inches tall by 42 1/2 inches wide and 20 inches deep front to back. The top ... morebookcase section measures 33 1/2 inches tall by 42 1/2 inches wide at the bonnet by 12 3/4 inches deep front to back. It has 12 panes of glass in it's upper cabinet doors and three small drawers run across the bottom within the top cabinet just below the two display shelves. The bottom bureau section measures 36 inches tall with a 35 inch tall flat surface height when the desk is closed and a 3/4 inch recessed space along the back for the upper bookcase to rest in. The base is 42 1/2 inches wide and 20 inches deep front to back and had three drawers. Inside the top bookcase the cabinet measures 25 1/2 inches wide by 8 1/2 inches deep and 28 inches tall. This is a very nice mahogany with satinwood inlay American writing desk. to the top behind the door there are drawers with pigeon holes. To the base there are there drawers to either side they are there compartments for keeping bottle of drinks. It has the pull down flap for writing with a green baize. Antique American Mahogany Writing Desk Bureau with Brass Handles Made in 1800s
This is a very nice very heavy Desk Bureau made in USA circa 1820. There are a few little repairs to the flap but the rest of the desk is pretty good. The colors is a brown and slightly reddish. The drawers and the flap has satinwood string inlay. There are small areas were some is missing, it sits on splayed feet and has brass handles which may not be the original ones. The back and the drawer linings again are all original with dovetail joints to the drawers. Its fitted with 2 envelope drawers to the interiors and many small drawers with a few small brass handles missing. But we will try and find these before its sold. The slides work fine to support the flap. Measurements are 42 wide 20 deep. 43 high.
