Rising from bun feet with semi-concealed white china castors into the main body featuring four drawers with mahogany linings and original turned knobs. An inlaid knee panel shows boxwood double stringing which is matched on the upper writing surface. For sale is a beautiful walnut desk with inlaid leather. It was handmade during the late 1800's. This desk has 2 burn stains on the top and the leather needs to be glued in spots. Antique Walnut Gold Embossed Leather Top Dovetailed Lap Desk
This is an Antique Gold Embossed Leather Top Lap Desk. The wood has a beautiful patina. It appears to me that the top frame of the desk is walnut and the secondary woods of the side and back panels is pine. The back corners have beautiful hand cut dovetails as seen in a pair of closeup photos. That attest to the age and hand made nature of this piece. The desk was purchased in England. And we are pretty confident it was made there as well. We do not know the age specifically but we are pretty confident it is a 19th Century or older piece. The total size of the desktop frame is 18 3/4" x 13 3/4" The leather clad writing surface is 15" x 10" The height at the back corner is 3" Transitioning very slightly higher at the edges transition to the upper surface. The three sided framed out support measures 17 1/2" x 12 ... more1/4" The desk weighs 3 1/2 pounds and it is a substantial, solid piece. You can see the construction in the photo of the underside and the two photos of the dovetails. The three panels are attached with screws. There are some remnants of some sort of paper covering on the bottom as seen. I do not know what this was from. With the warm glow of the walnut. The beautiful leather, and the great hand cut dovetails, this fine desk would be a wonderful addition to your home for decor and/or actual use! Condition Overall. The desk is in excellent overall condition. The walnut top has a beautiful patina with dings and wear consistent with its age and use. The leather top has a couple very minor scratches that the photo flash highlighted making them more apparent than they actually are. The top is firmly and uniformly glued to the wood. In some of the photos, you can see some slightly wavy appearance that is an artifact of the original creation of the piece, but we will guarantee your satisfaction that the writing surface is as you would expect it to be. This is a true partners desk. This means that there are all working drawers on both sides allowing two people to work at the same desk still having their own personal space. Great desk to work at with lots of room considering it has 10 functioning drawers. Very attractive desk with burl drawer faces and end panels, also wonderful carved legs that end into original capped brass casters that are all there. This Auction is for an Antique 19th Century Approximately 1870's Victorian Walnut Kneehole Writing Table Desk- Nice Size Perfect For A Unique Functional Computer Desk. It measures 31 1/4" tall by 43" wide by 28" deep- it has five drawers with what appears to be its original turned wood handles- it has hand dovetailed drawers and is square nailed- the finish is either original or an old refinish- the leather top I believe is an old replacement- this is a chunky solid very well made piece of furniture- it has some minor use wear on the finish. Two of the drawer locks are missing, and the back corner brace came loose and needs to be reglued- other than those flaws it is in very good condition.
