The desk has a large carved design on the front of the fall front desk top and opens to reveal pigeon holes. Slots and two small drawers within the desk itself. The fall front provides a large writing surface. The desk portion sits over a full width single drawer with two half width drawers and a cupboard base w/ door underneath. All drawer fronts have applied rectangular panels with walnut burl veneer covering the entire panels. Drawers have wonderful molded and stamped brass drawer pulls and back plates and all drawers, doors and fall front have keyholes with matching escutcheons and keys. All indications are this is the original finish on the secretary with only the inside fall front being refinished to match the rest of the desk. For your consideration, this fabulous and very impressive Tall Victorian Rococo Flame Mahogany Secretary with Arched Bookcase ... moreTop(Circa: 1860) This gorgeous two-piece Secretary weighs approximately 170 pounds and measures 102 ½” in total height(from the floor to the arched top of the crown) 44 ¼” in width, and 20 ½” in depth. The three adjustable shelves each measure 9” in depth and 41 ¼” in width. This is truly one of the most beautiful Victorian Secretaries of its kind that we have had the privilege to offer. You will notice that there is some faint writing on the back of the piece(see the e-Bay photo) that probably indicates either the maker or the person for whom the piece was made. From what we can see it is signed M. Hall, Hannibal, MO. The details on this Secretary are absolutely wonderful! This beautiful Secretary is constructed of mahogany. And flame mahogany over a secondary wood and the details are exquisite! The bookcase top is graced with a beautiful open arch top with a lovely center foliate carved pedestal that is surrounded on each side with elegant applied scroll land leaf adornments. The bookcase top doors have wavy glass that appears to be original. And three adjustable shelves. The doors have arched tops with picture frame moulding around the original glass and carved foliate escutcheons. The right door has an intact lock and a decorative(non-working) key is included to assist in opening the doors. Also. You will note that there is a small, insignificant scratch on glass in the lower corner of the right door which in no way impacts the beauty or integrity of the original wavy glass. The bottom slant front desk door of the Secretary is graced with luscious flame mahogany veneer, has a fancy brass key escutcheon along with an intact lock with working key. This is a fantastic and rare early school desk. Much larger than most of those you see. It has an incredible patina, and the key is still in the lock-works, too. The desk is 36 1/2" wide x 25" deep and it stands 33" high in back and 31" high in front-so there is a slope. Offered today for your consideration! A very important American Victorian mechanical desk/ games table. A very rare find made by the Brushke Furniture Co. In Chicago. A one of a kind survivor this piece is both a parlor or games table the is convertible to a writing desk. The top swings up and the desk portion emerges for the center of the piece as if by magic! Tis is Victorian ingenuity! The piece is carved with faces in the renaissance revival style and is made from beautiful tiger oak. The center desk portion lifts and descends by a gear and cable mechanism. This is one of the most unusual pieces of American Victorian and we are thrilled to offer it! Note the ornately carved legs and figures at the center which hide the desk and mechanisms. It was made in Chicago circa 1860 to 1880. There is a very light stamp bearing the name Brushke ... moreon the inside of the lift up drawer lid that is visible when the desk is open. The piece is very solid and in over all good condition and would be as usable today as it was 150 years ago. There is an age crack at the top of the letter compartment that pops up. These desks are supposedly rare and can be quite expensive. Unable to locate maker's marks. But it looks as though it could have been made by Edwards& Roberts, an English woodworking firm established in the 1840's and active throughout the 1850's as furniture and cabinet makers and retailers of fine furniture. 1stdibs has a similar desk listed at $6800. This is an older desk so it has some nicks, chips, and older repairs but is in good condition for being over 100 years old(it is likely from the 1850's, but I will leave dating of the piece to the purchaser as I am not an expert in this type of furniture) The cylinder works well, the desk surface pulls out easily, and the drawers work well. It is a beautiful piece of furniture. It also breaks down into 3 pieces for transport. The top lifts off from the two base, drawer ... moreportions. Antique School Desk. 1891- Used, Beautiful Condition! This desk was patented in 1891 and manufactured in Buffalo. New York. It was used in a one-room school house in La Flore County in the state of Oklahoma from the 1890's up until the 1940's or so. When the school house was torn down in 1967, this desk was saved, brought to San Diego, and kept safe and protected since then. The Desk is made from beautifully embellished black Wrought Iron& Contoured Wood. Very STURDY. The Seat easily flips up and down. The Desk-Top features a long groove(for pencils/pens) and a round hole(for an inkwell) The Desk-Top also features the inevitable markings and'artwork' left behind by many many young students over the years. There are initials. Signatures, random spelling words, dates(ie- 1917, etc. various kinds of famous symbols(historical/religious/other) ... morenonsense words and some very intriguing artwork. All of these markings are very important to the historical value and charm of the piece. Some of the markings especially illustrate what was in the minds of students during different periods of the 20th century. The desk has been re-assembled. Cleaned, detailed to a nice shine, and the wood and been cleaned/oiled/revitalized(as you can see in the photos) However, it can be easily dis-assembled as well. It is a little heavy. but will easily fit into the back of a truck/van/suv/car. A walnut wood weight is attached. The desk is in very good aged condition without repairs. The only thing I see is two tips missing from the delicate finials. Located on left side underneath the desk and on the right side bottom between the legs. You will need to really search in the pictures because they are very hard to find. T he desk measures 52" high x 34" width x 21" depth. This is Italian workmanship from the old days that can not be found in modern times. CUPID measuring 9" height and 6" at the widest part attached to the top that covers the compartment where the clock sits. Very good aged condition. CLOCK T he clock has 3 different hand designs and incased in bronze? solid brass. The face is a natural cream ivory? porcelain with black Roman numerals. The face is aged with some hairlines but the numerals are bold without any color loss. The clock has 2 front legs and a weighted bronze pendulum that you can view from the photo. I believe this lap desk original came from SPAIN. This travel lap desk has been used through the years so there are expected signs of wear from normal use. The wood on the bottom has a split. I am sure not too difficult of a repair. The red cloth writing surface is worn and a bit soiled. The wood is overall nice but there are some minor scratches and scuffs from age and use. In excellent fine condition. 4 graduated drawers flanked by turned columns. Resting on turned feet. Great Size! 38" wide. Again which is not normal. most desks are 41" to 43" wide, this one is quite narrow. Dovetailed case. TOP, AND BOTTOM! it is rare to find these chests/desks dovetailed, let alone the base and top dovetailed. Solid Cherry Case. Again, its a very early sheraton piece, most sheraton desks have paneled sides, this is solid sides indicating it was made slightly after 1800 to about 1810 to 1815. Dovetailed drawer construction. Cherry slant lid. With Flame Burl Mahogany veneer front. Pine Drawer Fronts. With Mahogany Cockbeading, and Mahogany Flame Burl Veneers ... moreand Poplar sides, and bottoms. Cherry. Nice looking original primitive antique desk topper. Unknown origin, maker, age. As you see it is stenciled 1766 in the same color dark stain as the rest of the piece. Nice size at 30" wide, 9 1/2" tall, and 6" deep. The wood construction is all 1/4" except for the supports. I added extra pictures to show the condition, surface wear, scratching, marks, ect. It is a solid piece in overall good useable condition, no wood cracking, breaks or chips, just the minor condition issues from age and use. You are considering an antique primitive painted paymasters desk with drawers. It is fantastic piece with character for days from years of use. The time-faded black paint is fantasctic. I tried to take decent pictures so you could judge it for yourself. Or you can inspect it in Granville, OH during the auction. I have seen a few of these, but this is the first one I have seen with the inside compartments complete. Antique Quartered Oak Rolltop Desk
This Circa 1900"S" Rolltop desk has been in the family for 64 years. It is a part of my fathers estate and will be sold to the highest bidder. The overall dimensions are approximately 55 inches wide. 51 inches tall, and 35 inches deep. The writing surface is approx. 32 inches high. The upper storage area consists of 10 drawers and 18 cubicles. The lower storage area has 9 drawers with the center drawer having its own key.
