The pull out writing surface measures 41 inches wide by 21 inches deep and height from the floor to the top of the writing surface measures 30 inches. The knee hole height of the desk portion measures 25 1/4 inches and knee-hole width measures 18 3/4 inches. The cylinder portion of this desk raises and lowers very smoothly and has a large brass lock mechanism on the bottom which is marked: Indianapolis Cab. Co Pat. The lock is intact but we do not have the key. The inner desk portion is beautiful maple with a multitude of various sizes of storage drawers and cubbies.The old green felt on the pull out writing surface appears original and does show some wear and some spots. Antique Walnut Cylinder Desk Victorian Era c. Late 1800's Roll Top Barrel
Outstanding Victorian walnut cylinder desk. This intricately detailed piece has definite Eastlake influences including a decorative grid pattern that borders the panelled sides and back and elaborate scroll decoration below the writing surface. Cylinder top conceals pigeon holes and a pull-out writing surface covered in emerald green felt. Brass hinges. Diamond-shaped escutcheons and rosette-mounted bail handle drawer pulls. One long shallow top drawers as well as three half-size drawers and a generous cabinet space. Dowel construction throughout including the drawers, top and back. The locking mechanisms in the drawers have two patent dates- April, 1875 and August, 1882. No maker's marks. Over all this piece is in very good condition. Especially considering its age. One of the back feet looks like it has been repaired. See picture. There ... moreare also some cracks or seperations in the wood, probably caused by drying, most notably in the scroll on the right side and on the side just above it. Also pictured. There are a few small dings and dents and some light wear associated with age, but otherwise no significant damage. The desk stands 40" tall. This is a beautiful solid black walnut slant top writing desk. Circa 1810.The figured walnut top is very rich and beautiful with its grain patterns,rich walnut tones and beauty marks. I rescued this diamond in the rough. It had many many coats of white paint hiding this beautiful black walnut wood. I lovingly& meticulously hand restored this desk back to full glory. I restored the finish with many. Many coats of hand rubbed shellac, maintaining the antique warm glow, rubbed to a silky smooth yet allowing the beautiful grain textures to be felt.There was a trim around the back of the top which was missing, I custom made this new back rail trim using reclaimed 200 year old black walnut. The drawer pulls are from a 200 year old dresser and are solid walnut hand carved pulls. The harp shaped end is gorgeous as you can easily see with its ... morecone shaped finial on the end of the hand turned support which joins it to the drawer base.The slant top is fixed in position. There is no lid that lifts up, this was designed as a writing desk, dating back to the quill pen days. There is an age shrinkage split in the top which I chose not to restore. It gives great character to this lovely piece. The drawer locks are missing.I restored all the drawers, carefully taking them all apart and regluing them all and now they are rock solid and slide excellently. Full depth drawers with lots of storage.The desk is finished on all sides, allowing it to be placed anywhere in a room. The recessed flat panel sides are a great design. Adding to the beauty. I purposefully left some character marks remain in this desk such as tiny chip of wood,left top edge) pinholes etc, they give this desk awesome character, I was not trying to create a reproduction piece I try and respect the antique with all of its age, history and character. Antique 1800's Desk Walnut Slant Front Top Section Only or Countertop Original
Antique 1800's desk slant front top or possibly a counter top desk for a country store. Etc. I believe that it's all original with the original outside finish and interior light green paint. The wood is walnut, popular back in the old days. The early desk hardware is pictured in photos# 3 and# 8. As you can see it possibly is a desk that just sat on a counter, etc. because of the way it's not finished on bottom and not much of evidence of any nails or screws holding it on to a base, so possibly a complete unit in itself and all complete. Photo#9 shows the pencil or pen holder that extents the whole inside front. In photo#4 the hole for an early ink well can be seen. It measures about 26 inches wide, about 20 1\4 inches deep and about 8 1\2 inches high in back and about 6 1\2 inches high in front. The slant front with aging has ... morea couple of cracks from the wood drying over the many years. You can notice in photos#2,3,and#8 that the interior top looks lighter than the outside which is common with antiques where the outside is exposed to light, smoke, dust etc. thru the years darkening the color and I would say the exterior is close to a medium(Early American Minwax) color which is a desirable color for antiques.It's a fairly heavy piece about 26 lbs. and shipping will vary depending on where it's going just to let you know. This is a solid walnut carved art- nouveau/craftsman- styled desk which is finished on all four sides. I am estimating it was made between 1895-1915. When this style was gaining popularity. However, this kind of desk is extremely RARE. Especially since it is finished on all four sides. The very first photo has the front finished side with the five drawers/cabinets, and the other side has the identical carvings but with no drawers(last photo listed) There are also two different close-ups of either side of the most carved part, photos 2 and 7. The very first picture is a photo of the desk without the red felt covering, which was replaced recently after it was discovered through restoration work that the original top of the desk was red felt originally. This antique secretary in solid walnut and burled walnut veneers came to us from England c1880. It is in beautiful condition and boasts three adjustable shelves(spaced at 2 ½” apart) in the upper unit along with the original glass front doors. There is a key for the upper cabinet and it works in the lock. But the locking mechanism does not work(missing the catch) There are some surface scratches to the bottom of the upper cabinet and also to the writing surface. Solid brass teardrop knobs complete the drawers which vary in depth(top at 4 ¾” middle at 6 ½” and the bottom drawer at 8 ½” Drawer fronts are a burled walnut veneer in excellent condition. Overall height is 85 ½” and the bottom section is 36”w x 19 ¾”d with the pull down substantial writing surface at 35 ½”w x 23”d(there are narrow panels on either ... moreside of the lower unit that pull out and support the writing surface) There seems to be some very slight delamination of the burled walnut veneer on the pull down panel– this is not noticeable unless scrutinized up close and should probably be left as is(refer to photos) as it does not affect the integrity of the piece. There are some slots for mail and smaller drawers as well that have the original brass knobs. The upper section is 34 12”w x 9 ¾”d. It comes apart in two pieces for ease of transport. Unique antique stand up American Walnut drafting desk. I purchased this desk 30 years ago and now no longer have a place for it. It came out of a beer brewery in Cincinnati Ohio. I estimate it to be over 130 years old. I was told it was 100 years old when I bought it. It is perfect for a stand up desk or for drafting blueprints. I also have a wooden screw stool which is correct height and can be purchased separately( stool is not an antique) Top does not lift but three drawers pull out. The whole top lifts off leg stand and held in place by balance and wooden pins.Two small nicks in surface which do not show on photo. Buyer will arrange for moving and pay all moving costs.In storage so cannot measure but about 5 foot wide and 3.5 foot deep.

Very unusual carved desk with drawers and storage. The wood appears to be dark stained Walnut. The desk is 25 inches wide. 11 1/2 inches deep and 12 1/2 inches tall. The piece was made in the late 1800's and would be ideal for a computer table or as an office cabinet to store important data. There are three 7 inch wide drawers on the left side with a full 22 inch wide top drawer. On the right side is a 7 x 7 door to a storage area. Under this is another 7 inch wide drawer. The center opening is partitioned to take stationary and accessories. Really nice, usable old piece. It is obvious the desk has been used a lot through the years. The top shows quite a bit of staining from ink. Etc. Structurally the piece is strong and secure. On the door panel on right side there is a chipping around the knob. This is a Victorian 54-inch-wide roll-top desk of solid black walnut with molded panels and carved handles. That dates from the 1880 era. ... moreIt has been completely stripped, re-glued, refinished, the canvas roll has been all re-canvassed, and we had to re-fabricate one handle(bet you can’t tell which one when you see the desk! Any molding damaged was replaced, any panels that were damaged were replaced, any wood damaged or ink-stained was replaced– we do one heck of a job when we go through a desk! The interior has burl walnut pencil trays and cubby drawers, and the original letter holders on both sides of the desk. We’ve even replaced the felt insert with the original factory dark green color. It has an applied beveled edge base, and a finished off back. We always put a reproduction roll-top lock in, which will be done before shipping. The overall size is 54 inches wide, 36 inches deep, 30 inches high to the writing surface from the floor, and 50 inches high to the top of the desk. The lock mechanism prevents the drawers from opening when the roll-top is down. Large Antique Victorian Burled Walnut Wood Lap Desk - Bed Tray
This is one gorgeous piece of wood. It is burled walnut and is from the early 1800s. It is a lap desk or maybe used as a bed tray. It is 32" long and 14" tall. It is in really nice condition. You can obviously tell it is a true antique but I don't see any chips on the edges, etc. Please ask if you have questions. SOLID WALNUT W/ BURL WALNUT FRONT ANTIQUE WALL MOUNTED DESK CABINET 1880'S-1890'S FOLD OUT SHELVES& WRITING SURFACE It really is hard to know where to start with this Antique piece. It is a gorgeous piece of furniture! The solid Walnut is in wonderful condition given the age of this piece. This is truly Unique. I have spent at least a couple of hours trying to research this piece or find one like it-I have not been able to find another like it! It is made of Solid Walnut. The wood has aged and seasoned beautifully. It was a true Craftsman that created this piece. The front is a Burl Walnut. Inside. There are five separate shelves. Two are removable. Three are attached to an arm and they swing forward and out. The desk surface has a track where two other arms come out and support the surface. These are of brass. The surface of ... morethe writing area is covered with velvet that was the covering of choice during that era. It is in Good to Very Good condition for the age. It does have some spots and stains on it. This is bordered with a veneer that I am not sure was wood or paper. It has peeled off in a couple of places, but is still in generally good condition. There are doors on each side of the piece that open up to reveal two small shelves on each side. These are the only thing that may not be original, but they may. They are a curved triangle. They do need to be glued in-I would say back in, but they do not look as if they were glued originally. I believe they were cut to fit very snugly without glue, but they would need to be glued to use with anything that has weight to it. The cabinet measures appx. 28" in width. 26" in height, 6" deep. The fold out writing surface comes out appx. 18" It weighs about 25 lbs. We will package it VERY carefully and would send it insured where applicable. Be sure to add me to your! This elegant SOLID WALNUT DRAWING ROOM DESK has a lift top with storage beneath and two drawers. It sands on four beautifully-turned legs which taper down to a distinctive ball before finishing with brass tips and rollers. Brass also finishes the drawer pulls. The main keyhole and hinges for the top. There is a decorative wood strip separating the drawer section from the writing top. There are large hand-wrought dovetails on the corners of the writer's top. A walnut cornice tops off the top flat section of the writers desk, also adorned with hand-wrought dovetails. Beautify wood grains flow thought the w alnut piece. The two drawers' interiors have some rough top edges. There appears to be deliberate rough carving of two indentations allowing something to lay across the drawers. None of this is visible from ... morethe outside.
