Very old heavy sturdy and solid Ladies Writing Desk. In walnut approximating weight 35- 45 pounds. Top comes down for writing surface of 12" deep. Magnet top very secure. Measures 43" tall. The chest itself is 10.5" the carved paw feet are 16" The surface pull is brass as are the ornaments on both sides of the top. The interior itself id painted red with slots and drawers on both sides. This beautiful table came in and was very nice looking. But the finish needed some rejuvenation. Therefore, we brought it into the shop to hand strip, hand sand, hand stain and applied multiple coats of satin sheen lacquer. We even applied a brand new application of antique red color felt. The hand cut dove tail drawer pulls out with contour corners. The drawer has a maple interior and has a divided section for your pens or articles. The base is gorgeous with multi-turnings, finials, fluted, reeded, applied buttons, burl walnut raised panels and a 2.5” burl walnut border trip across the top. The finish is a medium walnut stain with a satin sheen lacquer. The overall size is 40 inches wide, 26 inches deep and 30 inches high. It is a fantastic looking writing table. This is a diamond in the rough. Yes it needs loving care and restoration. We know it was a great. Great grandmothers desk, but not sure if she brought it from England or not. It has a secret drawer. Little compartments, and a little cover for small treasures. inkwell glass bottle(1) Some keys, some waxed string for whatever we don't know. It has brass corner plates, and a plate on the top which we believe are the initials. H A M. there is what appears to be one pen which you would put a tip in, and a pencil. THERE IS ALSO some original sealing wax. they kind you melt and stamp. The felt is in bad shape, and the felt that connected the little table hinge is worn off. It weighs 14.9 pounds. measures in the box form 10 X 17 3/4 X 7 1/4" tall. and opened up it is 21" long, and slants for easy writing. It needs someone who can appreciate ... morehow old it is.
