Antique Travel Writing Desk w/ Inlay Wood and Leather Writing Surface
Victorian era travel writing desk with original key. The piece is in good condition. There is some wear in the upper right hand corner(see photograph) and the lock is broken. The flip front does not sit flush against the piece but would if/when the lock is fixed. The hardware on the piece is solid and the hinges move smoothly. This is hinged and opens to reveal a sunken storage compartment with with small drawers and pigeon holes, alongside are 2 green leather inset panels and 2 drawers. Ea ch pedestal has 4 drawers which graduate in height and have ornate brass handles. The centre drawer above the kneehole is fixed and has a dummy front, The desk stands on a sturdy plinth base. 1899 Antique Traditional Cherry Writing Desk with Leather writing surface
This is a beautiful Cherry Writing Desk presented to Reverend B. Phillips in 1899(see photo) The desk box is 6” High. 14” Wide, 8 ¾” Deep when closed and 4” High, 14” Wide, 17 ¾” Deep when opened for use. It has a gold embossed leather writing surface which is in excellent shape for being over 100 years old(see photo– note one slight crease diagonally on lower writing surface. Both leather writing sides open; one for writing paper and one for saved correspondence(see photos of each side open– Wood is perfect– no chips, scratches, repairs, etc. The Pen/ pencil tray is removable to store more pens& pencils underneath(see photos)
