Condition: Used Location: Hyde Park, United States offered for sale is a fabulous r j horner true mahogany partner's desk. it is the largest model i believe. the top is 56 inches wide. 34 inches deep, ... moreand 32 inches tall. the knee hole is a bit over 24 inches tall. on each side there are two drawers on the right and a middle drawer over the knee hole. on the left is a door on each side that opens with folder dividers placed within. one side is a mirror image of the other, there are no fake doors, drawers, etc. on this piece. it is a very clean and neat piece and in near mint condition. there are few bumps and bruises here and there, but none that are noteworthy nor do they take away from the structure, function, and beauty of the desk. the mahogany in the piece is very good and is flame mahogany with wonderful grain throughout. i hope the pictures are good enough to display the beauty of this desk. of course the desk is not for everyone, just for those who want the best. it may be picked up at my home or shipped at the buyer's expense. i can help arrange transportation if that would be beneficial to anyone. good luck. by the way, these are quite rare and hard to come by. the last one i saw sell brought 16K at an auction with a 15 per cent buyers premium, which put it up to 18,400 when the smoke cleared.

19th Century Solid Mahogany Bench Made Partner's Desk W/Ornate Details Ball/Claw
A beautiful antique desk! This is a solid mahogany partner's desk that dates to the second half of the 19th Century. We do not know the maker or the region of origin. This piece is bench made and hand carved. The desk measures as follows: width = 50 1/8" depth = 27.75" height = 30 3/8" height to bottom edge at center of kneehole = 23" height to bottom edge of trim at kneehole = 22" The top of the desk has carved designs in all four corners. The edge has an ornate dental mold style trim all the way around. The secondary woods are also mahogany and the drawers have champhored bottoms and dove tails in the front and back. This piece was refinished some time in the early 20th century. There is an area on the top that is sun bleached on one of the ends as well as one of the legs. This same leg has a repair on it as ... morewell. Two of the legs have been repaired on this piece. They appear to be professional repairs. One of them has a very slight movement to it but the desk remains solid and sturdy. This is th eleg that has sun fade on it. The four legs have a beautiful carved design running vertically that ends just above the ball& claw foot. The knee hole has corner mounted pieces that are carved as well. This exceptional partner's desk is in the Queen Anne style/ design and probably dates from the late 1890s to the early 1900s. I believe the main wood to be rosewood. It is in great original found condition with the ordinary wear consistent for the age and use. There appears to be no damage. Or missing pieces. The stretcher base is separated( unglued- not broken) in one place in the center but can be put back together with little difficulty. The carvings are all well done and seem to be of some Oriental designs. The surface, drawers, sides and legs are all exceptionally carved. The three drawers are dovetailed and each have the original hardware. Each drawer as a whole is divided into halves such that each drawer goes the entire width of the table. This is about the last word on one of these short of a 17th Century Museum collection's piece. This has part of its late 19th century label showing it was made in Paris. This partial label still has identifying features as to its maker but we are buried in new estates. Putting fair prices on everything and vaulting to the next estate. We simply don't have time right now to hit our library. We are sure passionate French antique furniture collectors can identify this label. Getting past that: This desk has very well defined fan carved shells, bust medallions ... moreand just dripping with ormolu. It has a hand tooled leather top. We are sorry and only see now that while reviewing one of our photographic work that the leather top was not cleaned. We can see a faint mark on the leather. No promises we can make that better but were sure we could clean this up much better. It's leather top is nicely varnished so we have to have one of our top people play around with it. For those of you who know us its no surprize we do this in a very big way and we know what we are doing. The desk has fine form standing on well defined cabriolet legs all mounted with ormolu running the the very ends of the legs. One side has two drawers and the partner's side has two faux drawers. for auction is a very rare r j horner true partner's desk. rare because this is the only one in this model i have seen of horner's. Second it is made of cherry wood and is extremely heavy. i rarely see horner pieces in chery. the secondaries are quartersawn oak. i have taken a picture of one of the drawer side to show the oak. as you can see it does have the typical horner carving on the top of the desk, drawer fronts and sides as well as legs. it is a true partner's desk with no fake drawers on one side. it has 3 side drawers on each side and a long keyed drawer over the kneww hole. it is a large desk being 54 inches wide and 34 inches deep. with big casters on it, it stands 32 inches tall. i put the casters on so i could move it once in place it does not need casters as there is ample leg room in the knee hole. it is all original ... moreand has never been refinished. it has the original drawer pulls with fierce griffin heads on them and the original key the top of which is two dolphins with their tails touching to complete the key. it has the nicest carved, fluted, and contoured legs. there are no missing glue blocks as far as i can tell and is the sturdiest piece of furniture i think i have ever handled. i think you could drag it behind a truck and it would stay intact. it sits level, no warps, no wiggles no nothing. it is in great condition. i think i paid like 6000 for it many years ago. i am starting it for much less. i have so much stuff, i can barely walk thru the house so i am trying to get rid of a few larger pieces. the lucky buyer can pick it up at my home or it can be shipped at buyer's expense. good luck. i do have a lot more pictures, but ebay only allows me 12. if you want anything else please ask.

Up for auction and out of a local Charleston estate is this top shelf solid oak partner's desk which was originally owned by a Charleston. SC area businessman in the mid 1800's and possibly railroad desk based on the paperwork inside. Simple and with incredible attention to detail, this desk has three or four drawers per each side of the two pedestals. In addition, there are the top drawers all the way around(front and back) which are carved with quatrefoils which means"four leaves" in Latin. Quatrefoils are always in the shape of four circles which overlap equally.these are actually a quatrefoil carved on the inside of a carved quatrefoil. The drawer pulls on these are just ... morea carved out area under each drawer and all of them have this wonderful wear only achieved through 160 years plus of use. Each drawer is hand dovetailed and the bottoms are chamfered with the secondary wood of the drawers of oak. The two pedestal cases which hold either three or four drawers are also hand dovetailed.the cases themselves. At some point, the bottom two drawers of one side of each pedestal were professionally joined, literally, which makes these drawers great for legal size paper and folders. Whoever accomplished this did it without compromising the desk in any way. In fact, one is hard pressed to even know that these drawers are joined unless one already knows. The secondary wood is also quartersawn and straight sawn wood. There may be a piece or two of pine.not sure. The tooled leather top may or may not be original.if not, it is an old replacement and tooled with a shell design around the edges. It is black and there are a few scratches but nothing out of the ordinary. The sides are paneled with gorgeous quarter and straight sawn oak.
