Rising from bun feet with semi-concealed white china castors into the main body featuring four drawers with mahogany linings and original turned knobs. An inlaid knee panel shows boxwood double stringing which is matched on the upper writing surface. Description: A Truly exceptional quality mid 19th century Victorian Burr walnut Marquetry inlaid Davenport writing desk. The outstanding piece fitted with an upper marquetry inlaid lidded stationery box. Leading to an oval shaped black tooled leather writing skiver with embossed gilt scrolls. The outer section of the writing lid with conforming marquetry decoration and a string inlay surround. The lid revealing a fully fitted maple interior comprising of 4 working drawers and the original ... morebrass lock with a working key& draylon key tag. The sides of the piece each having a beautiful bank of 4 graduated drawers(one side being dummy drawers) with all of the working drawers retaining their delightful original turned handles. Original brass locks and original brass lock escutcheons. The magnificent front centre panel has a striking marquetry inlay design and is surrounded by a quality brass beading. Whilst t he whole is raised upon four sturdy string inlaid legs which terminate in bun feet. This piece is in overall fabulous condition consistent with it's age of more than 140 years. The Davenport is completely free-standing(polished at the rear) so it can be placed directly in the centre of any room should one choose to do so. c1860 Fisher of the Strand Burr Walnut & Mother-of-Pearl Lap Desk London ND2257
Listing is for an antique burr walnut lap desk made by Fisher of the Strand. London, England, c 1860. The Strand was a street that connected the city of London to Trafalgar Square. Fisher was reputed to be one of the highest quality producers of this type of product in the city. There is a mother-of-pearl inlay with the name M. Ellwood center of the top of the lid. The opening for the key is also in an inlayed piece of mother-of-pearl. The desk contains a 1 1/2" square x 1 1/4" tall glass ink well with a metal top marked GERM 0385 DRGM 16180. No key. ENGLISH made burr Walnut writing slope lap desk from the victorian era approx 1860-1880.lots of inlay. It is in fantastic condition and ready to use. It has had its leather writing surface replaced at some point in its life. Looks good. There have been repairs done in bits on the sides of box.nothing terribly bad and not terribly noticeable. felt on bottom has been replaced. The ink well comparment on one side has dividers and due to a bit of wood shrinkage. They will fall but they stay put if you put them in place and set the lap desk somewhere.the hidden comparment is missing the long piece of wood that has the trigger mechanism on it to hide the 3 drawers.it doesnt take away from the charm or beauty of it.one tiny drawer knob is missing.over all, its in great usable, sturdy condition.ready to be used to write your letters.i have 3 and ... moream keeping two.hard to let one go but i dont write enough letters to justify keeping 3. Approx 20 in long. 10 in deep Over 7 in tall. This is a large one.not the standard little size you see so many of. Sadly no key.but i am sure one could be made as the lock does work.

The desk is crafted from beautiful burr walnut and features two striking green leather writing surfaces. It is inlaid with interlaced strap-work bands on each end and it has marquetry decoration and crossbanding on the sides. The edges of the desk are carved with foliate decoration on a matted ground and e ach side of the desk is fitted with a useful drawer. The stretcher base stands on cabriole legs. Is made from solid walnut and has beautiful hand carved decoration. This writing table is a beautiful example of a free standing piece of furniture which is certain to make a statement wherever it is placed. Marquetry is decorative artistry where pieces of material(such as wood. LARGE IMPRESSIVE ANTIQUE BURR WALNUT PARTNERS PEDESTAL DESK - ORIGINAL PIECE
Church Street Antiques has been trading in London's famous Marylebone antiques district for twenty-five years Specializing in English antique furniture 1750-1920. We have a large stock. Including dining furniture, bedroom furniture, and drawing room furniture, as well as lighting and ornamental pieces. This antique partners pedestal desk has to be the best model I've ever had. It's absolutely stunning& fabulous quality too. I can't possibly list all the incredible feature. But I'll try a bit, so please enlarge all the images to see for yourselves. I would date it to around the 1890-1910 period. It's burr walnut, figured walnut& solid walnut, plus it has the original brass handles. There is a shaped tooled leather writing surface& there are pull out leather topped slides on either side. The top section has ... moreconvexed ends all the way around, including the drawers. It has beautifully shaped burr walnut panels on the outside& inside the pedestal. All the edges are curved& it sits on ogee bracket feet. There are drawers to the front, plus a single drawer on the top section of the back& cupboards below, with shelves inside. The burr walnut is really tight& the drawers are finely dovetailed. This desk also has a lovely original colour& comes apart into three sections. I don't think it's quite sitting together perfectly in the images, which is why you may spot the odd slight gap where the top sits on the pedestals. In fact I can see it's not lined up straight. This desk has just been restored& polished, with locks& keys, so it's in good condition. Width- 64" 162 cm Depth- 39.5" 100 cm Height- 29.5" 75 cm Knee hole height- 24" 60 cm.
