So highest bid gets the desk Payment by PayPal within 48 hours of auction close Local pickup only This auction is for a vintage desk in the style of one said to be used by John Winthrop. Governor of Massachusetts Bay Colony. The desk is a reproduction made by the Maddox Table Co. of Jamestown, New York. This desk comes right out of the New England estate. The desk has those wonderful features most folks are looking for, such as all-wood drawers with dovetail corners, and clawed feet. The hardware and locks are the originals that came with the desk, not replacements. The desk was in my family for around 60 or so years, so the desk dates to at least 1950, and it may be older than that- I'm just not sure. The desk is the slant-front style, hinged at the bottom, so it opens up and the front lays flat to become the writing surface; the desk front can be locked. When the desk front is opened and lowered into the writing position, two arms come out automatically to support the writing surface. Inside the desk there are 3 small drawers, and holders for stashing letters and so forth. In the center of the opened desk, inside, there is a closed compartment with no lock; the compartment door is scratched. There are 3 drawers below the writing surface that extend almost the full width of the desk, and each one of them can be locked. These drawers have a graceful bow front(see photos) Above the desk itself is a prominent feature, a bookcase with 2 shelves covered by hinged glass doors that swing out and can be locked. The bookcase doors do not line up 100% vertically when closed, a common problem with these desks. This doesn't mean that you can't close them or lock them when closed, but it is something I should point out. Above the bookcase is decorative trim with a twin swan&#

1860's Flame Mahogany Late American Empire Desk with Carved Corner Columns and Feet This estate item is ready to use as is. It has beautifully carved front corner columns and feet. The inner desk case and all drawers are dovetailed construction. The front dovetails of the drawers have been bulked up with added strips of wood that cover them up. but they are there! The back corners of the drawers are dovetailed as well. I pulled the inner case out so you can see the construction. Also there is rough cut wood on all drawer bottoms and back of inner case. Here is an absolutely gorgeous antique mahogany desk with lovely burl mahogany veneer and border design inlay. Circa 1840 and American made. This slant front desk drawers. The desk stands 43 inches tall and measures 38 inches wide by 21 inches deep, front to back. The writing surface itself is 36 inches wide by 21 inches from front to back. The surface is beautiful and in very good condition. The inside of the desk also reveals 16 small drawers and an additional cubby with lovely inlay door as shown. Below the desk slant front. T here are four large drawers. Each 31 1/2 inches wide and 18 1/4 inches front to back and then 2 3/4, 3 3/4, 4 3/4 and 6 inches deep respectively, in descending order. The dovetails are not hand cut and irregular. But are consistent. Online I found this description: A close inspection shows no irregular saw cuts or variation from a skilled craftsman, but rather a precise and identical manufactured machined joint. These machine-cut dovetails are as strong and long lasting as the hand-made joints, and became the standard of better American furniture ever since the late 1890's. So this desk may be very late 1800s or early 1900s. Another indication is that the back is not multiple boards. But appears to be an early plywood? There is a tiny hole drilled in the back where I think my dad had our phone(land line) cord come in so the phone could be in the desk. Regardless, it is a beautiful old desk. Pine secondary wood and original stamped brass hardware Dimensions: 38 7/8" long x 21 3/8" wide x 44" high. Turreted corners typical of Sheraton pieces from this period and region with original oval pulls and a slant lid form more commonly seen on earlier desks mark this as an early transitional period piece. Great 19Th Century Formal Mahogany Hepplewhite Slant Lid Lap Desk. Hidden Draws
For sale is a great late 19th century formal mahogany Hepplewhite slant lid lap desk. The lap desk is an overall good condition with some areas of repair as noted in the pictures. This lap desk has several areas of hidden compartments and we've taken pictures of those areas before your consideration. The grain of the mahogany is a very nice with lots of green shelling in a medium brown wooden tone. There are two holding handles on each side of this piece. We are unsure if they are original to this lap desk. The escutcheons looked to be all original with original natural material. The draws all contain original dovetail joinery with what looks like poplar or pine as a secondary wood. There are a few original pieces left in this lap desk including some old glass inkwells a quilt pen and a small holding box. They will be included in the ... moresale but will be packed separately. They are not in the best condition so we are mainly selling it just this lap desk. The left portion of the top lid was at one point glued and repaired back together. Here we offer a beautiful turn 19th/ 20th Century Queen Anne. Ball and Claw Slant Front Desk. Sea Shell cartouche motifs. Not your average, run of the mill desk. This baby has crisp carvings and intricate construction. It stands on four high beautifully curved and carved legs, ending in ball and claw foot. Front lid carved to the max opens up and sets on the support slides that pull out on ends. Judging by the lack of the pull handles on the slides, and by the bronze hardware mechanism, I believe the slides to have been mechanical. This is an amazing Slant top secretary writing desk in great condition! It is antique white painted over genuine mahogany and gold painted edges for added detail! This Chippendale secretary desk has such details and charm as well as quality made! The overall paint color is a creamy white and in some areas you see the mahogany showing thru. There is some very minor paint loss at the bottom and some around the edges but in think it adds additional character and charm to this piece! The hardware is an antique look and dark brown almost black in color. The drawers are dovetailed at the edges which is a stronger way to connect the ends together! Cherry & Mahogany Chippendale-style Slant Front Desk
Chippendale-style desk. Deep. Rich patina. Cherry front has turned a deeper brown due to age and oxidization. Appears to be mahogany on the sides. Four graduated drawers; interior has secret compartment. Hand dovetailed and planed. Ball& Claw feet likely replaced. We repaired the front piece of both support rails using an antique restorer. The piece was purchased at an Eastern Shore auction many years ago. It has been in a non-smoking home with other fine antiques. Although I have specified that this is for local pick-up.
