Antique 1800's Desk Walnut Slant Front Top Section Only or Countertop Original
Antique 1800's desk slant front top or possibly a counter top desk for a country store. Etc. I believe that it's all original with the original outside finish and interior light green paint. The wood is walnut, popular back in the old days. The early desk hardware is pictured in photos# 3 and# 8. As you can see it possibly is a desk that just sat on a counter, etc. because of the way it's not finished on bottom and not much of evidence of any nails or screws holding it on to a base, so possibly a complete unit in itself and all complete. Photo#9 shows the pencil or pen holder that extents the whole inside front. In photo#4 the hole for an early ink well can be seen. It measures about 26 inches wide, about 20 1\4 inches deep and about 8 1\2 inches high in back and about 6 1\2 inches high in front. The slant front with aging has ... morea couple of cracks from the wood drying over the many years. You can notice in photos#2,3,and#8 that the interior top looks lighter than the outside which is common with antiques where the outside is exposed to light, smoke, dust etc. thru the years darkening the color and I would say the exterior is close to a medium(Early American Minwax) color which is a desirable color for antiques.It's a fairly heavy piece about 26 lbs. and shipping will vary depending on where it's going just to let you know. The two side doors open revealing shelves; the bottom middledrawer does the same; and the top drop-down door reveals small drawers. Nooksand crannies. There is another drawer between the drop-down and lowerdoors. The drop-down door needs tohave the hinges tightened slightly. As it will occasionally drop down on itsown. Also, the door itself has been repaired, and the repairs are visiblefrom the inside view(midway down the door) there is also a mostly-invisibleline that can be seen from the front if you look closely, which is where thesame repair occurred. Hinges, Hardware ~ Circa 1890-1900 Unit Measures 50” x 43 ½” x 26” ~ Stored in Smoke-Free Home This is a once-restored antique oak roll-top watchmaker’s or jeweler’s bench from between the 1890’s or 1900 or so. It is in very good condition and shows normal wear and tear for it’s age—over a decade—100 plus years. As shown in the photos. There are also some surface scratches, dings, paint speckles, and staining on the canvas catch cloth. This lovely watchmaker’s bench has nine drawers. Two deep cabinets or cupboards with doors, two drop down oak sides, and a canvas catch drawer. All original drawer pulls, hooks, hinges, hardware, and the canvas catch are intact and fully functioning. The roll-top piece ... moreworks well, rolls easily, and engages a set of drawer locks when closed. We do not have a key. The unit measures 50” H x 43 ½” W x 26” D. Workbench height is 39” from the ground. All wood is solid oak. This bench has a tambour shaped roll-top that completely covers the work area when closed. Each side drops down by unhooking hooks to provide an even larger tabletop surface which measures 60” across. One of the cupboard enclosures was specifically designed to house watchmaking and jeweler’s tools; the other enclosed the flywheel for the treadle. This is a solid walnut carved art- nouveau/craftsman- styled desk which is finished on all four sides. I am estimating it was made between 1895-1915. When this style was gaining popularity. However, this kind of desk is extremely RARE. Especially since it is finished on all four sides. The very first photo has the front finished side with the five drawers/cabinets, and the other side has the identical carvings but with no drawers(last photo listed) There are also two different close-ups of either side of the most carved part, photos 2 and 7. The very first picture is a photo of the desk without the red felt covering, which was replaced recently after it was discovered through restoration work that the original top of the desk was red felt originally. Here is another nice functional piece. This is a Mid 19th Century French Red Leather Top Desk. It still be used for the purpose it was made for. 5 dove tailed drawers, 2 on each side and one across the middle, all with individual locks. Writting surface is covered with red leather, which has darkened with age and has some discoloration that does not take away from it's beauty. Straight tapered legs matching in front and back, all done in herring bone pattern inlay, as well as the rest of the piece. Top has a nice wood quarter inch gallery, that tapers in the front. Each side has candle pullout surface, that is leather covered as well. H eight is 29.5" to the top with 24.5" ample leg room underneath which is often not the case with period desks. This is a Mid 19th Century Napoleon III Boulle Bureau Plat(Bureauplat) Better yet Bronze Mounted Tortoise and Scrolling Brass Inlaid Leather Top Desk. This work of art can still be used for the purpose it was made for, however it is an eye candy with a writting surface covered in original dark(navy) blue Moroccan tooled leather(gold edges) wich has darkened with age to almost black appearance. Quality of bronze mounts is a 10+. They are classic French III Empire mounts, on the edges with saboes on the bottom. Cabriole legs matching in front and back, flanking a single drawer. Greatest feature of this desk is in it's inlay which carries many different prescious stones and metals, you will see in the photos(lapis, etc) There are areas of inlay where metal is other than brass, ... moresome silver in nature as well as copper. We have fitted new knobs to these drawers which can either be waxed or painted in a contrasting colour if required. Which makes me wonder if underneath the old, shabby-looking white paint, is the rest of the desk like this, or is it veneer or what is it? The drawers are painted on the outside, but inside are pine lined, which tells me that most likely the exterior is some sort of veneer. This piece came out of Denmark and dates from the 1840s to‘60s era. It’s a great period desk that someone decided to modernize in the shabby chic style many years ago with white paint and a gold border edge. The height to the writing lid, when opened, is 31 inches high, and gives you plenty of work space to write out checks for your antique purchases. Antique country Chippendale school master's desk. Pine wood has been stained a deep reddish color and has a beautiful aged patina. Lift-top/ slant-top writing surface with storage area beneath sits atop a single. Long drawer. Brass willow mount escutcheons and drawer pulls with bail handles. Fine dovetail joints on drawer as well as on the corners of the top half. The piece sits on tapered square legs. This classic piece dates from the early 1800's. Overall. 1884 Roll Top Desk with Corbin Cabinet Lock(CCL. RollTop) Excellent heavy wood. Locking roll top desk. The top rolls over the open desk and locks with a key; doing so also locks the top drawer as well. The lock is made by CCL(Corbin Cabinet Lock) they've been around since the 1800's. It is a two piece unit; the roll top desk area can be separated simply by lifting it from it's base(drawer area) It's also easy to move around due to base mounted wheels. There are far more than enough'cubbyholes' for all your knickknacks; including three rarely found vertical side slots(1@ 17" 2@ 8 1/2" There are two small drawers and dual pen holders in this area as well(see photos) The desk top surface area has wooden bumper guards at both sides. The base leg/feet area is of a'closed architecture' type(as opposed to ... morean open back style; see photos) and sports 8 drawers with 2 hidden sleeves on either side that you pull to extend(~18" The desk top itself has various glass/cup ring stains(see photos) There is a two piece spring loaded internal mechanism which serves to prevent the top from moving around. One of these pieces has come loose(part is included) and looks to be fairly easy to repair. Even still. It's function is basically unnecessary, due to the weight of the roll top(it won't be moving/sliding around) Being internal, this mishap is entirely hidden from any viewpoint angle. One of the four wheels is missing. The framework of this wheel is still intact, but the'wheel' itself is not there. The other three wheels are fine; the desk can still be easily moved around by the remaining three. The only history on this desk that I could dig up was from the previous owners that say it was owned by their friends Great Grandfather; a North Carolina abolitionist politician who also apparently wrote books. You are bidding on one of the most outstanding original late 1800's S curved rolltop desks that I have seen in quite some time. Let me start by saying that this desk has been professionally restored to it's original grandeur.There are lovely raised panels everywhere. Even the inside of the opening for the desk chair. Please take a look at the photos, which by the way, don't come close to doing this desk justice. The S roll of the desk is supurb. The inside of all the drawers look as good as the two you see in the picture. Also, the bottom right hand drawer looks like two small thin drawers but is actually one deep drawer for added convenience. Every drawer has dovetailing for added strength. An antique oak railroad desk from the 1890's. The writing surface is slanted with a level strip approx. 7" wide which runs the the width of the desk and upto the backsplash. The top section has three draws with some minor wear(see photos) around the bottom corners. The bottom consists of a cabinet on the right and left with a set of four draws in the center with original brass hardware. The desk is paneled and finished all the way around; so it could be freestanding. On the backsplash there is carving in the the back where either a client or customer would stand. For moving the piece separates with the top section measuring 84"w x 33"d x14 1/2'h. The base is 84"w x23 1/2d x 36"h. The overall measurement is 84 x 33 x50 1/2. Buy with confidence. BUTLER'S PANTRY EMPIRE 1820 LEADED GLASS SIGNED SALE!!
Up for auction is a Butler's Pantry or Secretary Desk dating from the period between 1810- 1820. It was made in New York City by a furniture maker named James Cook. I have to take a picture of the signatures and the maker's stamp to post them. It is from the early empire period. It is complete and in good untouched original condition with it's original finish and glass intact. It is almost 8' tall and will fit underneath most standard 8' ceilings. It has a curved removable cornice which is beautiful flame mahogany. The overall design is rather simple in keeping with the very beginning of the Empire period before the over-sized scroll detailing became a typical feature. One of the most beautiful aspects of this unusual piece are the beautiful antique diamond shaped leaded glass panels in each door. They are structurally ... morein very good condition and contain all of the original glass with all of it's beautiful waves. Swirls, and bubbles. There is a panel which flips open to transform into a writing surface and it appears to have very old black felt. The wood is mahogany. Flame and crotch mahogany veneers, and solid mahogany doors and structural elements. The finish is the original shellac based french polish which shows a nice patina. for sale is a very large and useful piece of antique furniture. this is a double secretary bookcase side by side desk. it has many wonderful features including galleries. Carvings, doors, drawers, drop front writing surface, a bank of cubbies, beveled center mirror just to mention a few. note the outside column of the door frame is part of the door and moves as the door moves. it has 4 shelves on each side. i have one out to allow a large porcelain romeo and juliet statue to sit. it has a lot of storage for whatever, i put porcelain in most of my pieces, but it would hold a bunch of books also. it is in near mint condition structure wise. it is quite heavy and is in three pieces which i have pictured. i had to move it out of a down stairs room i am converting to a bedroom. i have gotten too old or too lazy to climb the steps. at any rate, ... morei unloaded it and moved it to another room that really is not a good fit for it at all so i am going to try to sell it. the three sections go together and are held in place by dowels. you then attach screws from the inside of either outside cabinet to secure it to the center section. primarily the screws are just to keep the dowels from pulling out of the piece they slip into. it is large and heavy, it a bit over 62 inches wide, 17 inches deep, and 73 inches tall. it has a tyler desk or tyler cabinet co. st. louis, mo. paper label on it when i bought it about 8 years ago. the label was barely hanging on so i took it off and kept it. at this junction however, i do not know what i did with it. i know i have it but have not looked at the right spot yet. i paid 42000 for it like nearly 8 years ago, could have been longer. ihave several pieces displaced and need to dispose of them so i am starting this great piece at 1000 less than i paid. if you note the joints in drawer i pictured you can see they are dowel joints, so i expect it was made prior to 1890, after that time they did factory dovetail. pictures are bad and sorry about the dusk, didn't get the top wiped off i see. it m

One of a kind tramp desk made by marrying two mismatched pieces. Most likely dates from 19th century. Woods used look like pine and oak. Constructed using a combination of woodens pegs. Hand Dovetailed drawers and the back is also hand dovetailed in place(pic#12) Nice stepped back lower drawer.
