Beautiful Oak Butlers Desk from the middle of last century(1840's to 1870's) Nice condition with some minor issues that you would expect from being used over the last century and a half. Oak is the main wood with Walnut and Birds Eye Maple as the secondary(drawer fronts and desk top) Needs a cleaning and a light touch up but otherwise a great desk that would make a statement in your home! Scuffing along the bottom where the shoes would be as you sat there and one spot on the top(picture 11) Light scratching along the front and top as normal wear would occur. An antique. Circa 1800, Sheraton style butler's desk chest of drawers. It measures 44" tall by 47" wide by 22" deep. Original finish and oval brass pulls. The fronts and top are stripped mahogany veneers, the top drop front with oval string inlay. The sides are sold mahogany. The cubbyhole is missing four brass knobs, and key to center door. All drawer locks are present. Veneer trim missing from the end sides of the top board, mahogany repair plugs on front case above the locks on three drawers. Shrinkage vertical crack to the left side board, and shorter vertical crack on the right side board, short crack to thr right front corner on the top board.

Has outstanding inlay and detail and brass drop handles. Also has a ivory looking inlay around the key holes. There is 11 small drawers counting the secret/hiding ... moredrawer and a door with storage space. Three large full size drawers as well and the key is included. There is a heavy thick brass half moon shape hinge on each side of the drop down drawer. Measures 43 5/8" tall. 43 7/8: wide and 21 1/2" deep. Some varnish loss on the top as pictures will show. Due to age expect to find some scratches and rubs from age and use that is common to all antique furniture. The desk is very solid and strong with no loose joints. All joints are the old wedge joint found in all of your very old furniture. Truly a beautiful piece of furniture from our past that will compliment any decor. A very nice antique. Circa 1840's, Empire flame mahogany veneers, mahogany, and mahogany stained maple, bookcase with butler's desk base. Two piece construction. The bookcase has mahogany"piecrust" bandings to the Gothic doors and the cornice. Original wavy glass panels. Interior with two adjustable maple shelves with flame mahogany fronts. Two ogee drawers are below. The butler's desk was a top drop down front with cubbyholes and single drawer. New green felt writing surface. Two long drawers below over case on mahogany bracket feet. Furniture measures 7'3" 87" tall by 3'10" 46" wide by 29" deep, the shelves 9" deep. Very good plus condition, very nicely refinished. Veneers without chips or repairs(gouge to the veneer on edge of case by butler's desk. All door knobs are original ... moreand matching. All six locks with keys present(missing the brass keyhole surround to one drawer. Both glass panels without damage. The left side and right side case boards have a vertical age crack. During the late Georgian period. The mahogany, which is protected by a fine coat of hand-rubbed wax, displays a rich complexion and a striking grain that are sure to complement any setting. Solid brass swan ... moreneck pulls, which were popular during the Georgian period, adorn the drawer fronts, while dental moulding and individually paned glass grace the bookcase section. The fretwork on the glass is unusual and attractive. In total, this bureau contains four main drawers, three fully adjustable shelves, ten interior(desk) shelves, one interior(desk) cabinet, and four desk cubbyholes. The desk itself features a wonderful writing surface of brown leather with gold tooling. The bookcase section secures to the bureau with four screws. When open the desk section measures 38″ wide x 21.5″ deep and is 31″ from the floor. In the bookcase section the shelves have a depth of 9.75″ In general this antique bureau bookcase is quite sturdy and remains in very good condition. Inside the fall. The leather is split at the hinge. The fall itself has a key which works the lock but the lock does not engage and therefore the fall doesn’t lock. We feel the fall was replaced at some point in the piece’s life. There is a small spot of damage on the cornice at the very back left corner.
