It's scale(51w x 29d x 30h) makes this desk perfect to be positioned behind a sofa or in a small study, sitting or bedroom. Here we have for auction a stuning Napoleon III Empire style mahogany and brass inlaid twin pedestal desk dating to the mid 19th century. This beautiful example has a moss green baize inset top over a bank of three frieze drawers being raised on twin pedestals with column detailing on spread pad feet. The cupboard doors open to reveal sliding drawers and shelves. The desk is also finished to the rear in a similar style so could easily be used in the middle of a rom. The drawers are finished in similar brass inlay as are the cupboard doors and pedestals and a key is provided to open the drawers. Including dining furniture, bedroom furniture, and drawing room furniture, as well as lighting and ornamental pieces. This antique partners pedestal desk has to be the best model I've ever had. It's absolutely stunning& fabulous quality too. I can't possibly list all the incredible feature. But I'll try a bit, so please enlarge all the images to see for yourselves. I would date it to around the 1890-1910 period. It's burr walnut, figured walnut& solid walnut, plus it has the original brass handles. There is a shaped tooled leather writing surface& there are pull out leather topped slides on either side. The top section has ... moreconvexed ends all the way around, including the drawers. It has beautifully shaped burr walnut panels on the outside& inside the pedestal. All the edges are curved& it sits on ogee bracket feet. There are drawers to the front, plus a single drawer on the top section of the back& cupboards below, with shelves inside. The burr walnut is really tight& the drawers are finely dovetailed. This desk also has a lovely original colour& comes apart into three sections. I don't think it's quite sitting together perfectly in the images, which is why you may spot the odd slight gap where the top sits on the pedestals. In fact I can see it's not lined up straight. Up for sale are a pair of Heywood Eclipse wooden school desk chairs with adjustable metal bases. On the base is the Manufacturer name and the#3. I believe these date to 1890 time frame. They have been in my family since I was a child and at one time we had the desks to them that we used at home as kids. One chair is in better shape than the other but both are very solid with no major issues. One of the chairs does have some separation in the glue joints although nothing is loose. Having just been restored by my very experienced restorer(50 years) it is consequently in excellent condition and is ready for immediate use in the home or for retailing in a prestigious showroom or fair. The second thing that strikes you about this desk is the colour and patination. The cabinetmaker that made this desk chose some very good quality timbers for the job. This has resulted all these years later in a desk with a gorgeous soft rich warm colour and patination that can only be attained by oak of this age and quality. Thirdly are the proportions. The design of this desk is just right and the desk benefits from having a good balance. Beautifully made with attention to detail in the construction. This English oak library desk displays warm, rich hues beneath a lustrous shine. Raised on continuous plinths.
