It also looks like two of the screws are larger then the others so I assume they are replacements. A beautiful late 18th century to 19th Century original piece.

This desk has very elegant shaped feet and of full height giving the desk a very pleasing look. Hard to find a better one in the market dating from this 1805 period. This desk is untouched. So there are stress fractures all shown in the photos. This French foot chest is also very practical for daily use being 43 1/4" high and 40" wide by 20" deep. This is an absolutely amazing piece of biedermeier furniture in satinwood. There are a few secret compartments to the top. This may have been restored at some time as it is in perfect condition. Featuring a pierced brass gallery wrapping around shaped marble with turret corners over fluted fruitwood pillars with brass mounts. The drawer has original brass hardware with a strong lock in the middle, the keyhole a four-leaf clover lock guard, limiting the keys that can access the hole- this lock mechanism is mirrored on the drop-lid and on the pair of cabinet doors. The lid drops to reveal six small drawers and a few cubby-holes, all of the drawers hand dovetailed front and back, the bottoms bevelled to rabbet into the sides. The lower cabinet opens to reveal a locking box, key absent, the box somewhat destabalized due to a missing block on the right side. Here's what I stated about this gorgeous cabinet's condition: One wood split crack and chip of inlaid veneer marquetry on front middle of bottom drawer. The drawers have some resistance when pulling out. But the can be pulled out completely and fairly easily, but just have some snug fit little tug drag to them, as does the slide out writing desk platform, but not at all a problem and just not real easy and loose pulling out. Some minor surfaces scratches, but other than these remarkably well preserved and beautiful condition dovetail joined antique writing desk cabinet. Due to age expect to find some scratches and rubs from age and use that is common to all antique furniture. The desk is very solid and strong with no loose joints. 100 yr. Old Painted Desk We have several old antique items to sell at my folks old house that I thought would best be liquidated here on Ebay. This oak secretary or writing chest is absolutely wonderful and is so much more attractive in person than the pictures. Every authentic antique painted piece of furniture of this nature is original unique and of its own beauty and this one is no exception. Green color is rich and deeper green in person than with camera flash. The green is likely an old oil based enamel or lead paint. The top surface is glared in a couple pictures appearing a different color but it is the same green color as the rest of the cabinet. The paint is not flaking or pealing but is still very strong adhering all over. Loads of character and charm. The whole piece is solid as a brick and not rickety or wobbly. I don't see ... moreany repairs or cracks etc. Typical wear that would be indigenous to this period and stature. I took a close up of damage on interior of the door around the drop hinge arm. Drawers function well and door closes nicely. I particularly like the shaker style going narrower to the floor as seen in the side profile. The detail in curvature of the drawer fronts is unique as well. There has been no back on the cabinet for many years. I have seen hundreds of secretaries in my days but have never seen this particular style before. This little cabinet is simply divine and could be used in so many rooms of a home to suite your taste. Brass edging. Upper section having a single long narrow drawer over a hinged double height drawer that flips out to reveal 3 smaller drawers. A felt writing surface with 2 hinged section with one opening to a storage bin area and the top opening to a set of fitted cubbies, this all over a normal drawer. Lower section consisting of 2 drawers and all standing on turned bun feet. Inlaid line banding on all drawer fronts. In good clean condition but does show signs of age and use wit scratches dings and small chips and worn areas. Measures 43 inches wide X 19 1/4 inches deep X 50 inches high. 1870-1900 Beautifully Detailed Hardwood Side lock Butlers Chest/Desk Dresser
Listed for sale is this beautiful hardwood side locking Butlers Chest/Desk made from 1870-1900. This chest has five drawers with knapp joints and wood burl accents. The top drawer a little fancier with a hand carved design. The second drawer pulls out and the front flips down to reveal a desk with two small drawers(one missing its pull knob) and an original red felt writing area. The edges of the writing desk have a wheel with a flower carved into the wood. Above the top drawer is a scalloped design and down the sides of all the drawers are two hand carved colums. The left colum closes over the drawer ends to lock them how ever there is no key! Each drawer has two beaufurl brass pull handles featuring a cottage and trees. The chest is 46 1/2" tall. 37 1/2" wide and 20 1/2" deep 31 1/2" with desk out.
