It is a gorgeous piece, the original gilt highlighted tooled green leather preserved in remarkable condition, framed in well patinated molded mahogany over five drawers. The desk rests over four tapered and stop-fluted legs with square brass caps over each leg and terminating in plain brass capped feet. Jacques Bodart. Inc. crafted very fine reproductions of Louis XVI 18th and 19th Century antique furniture, marketing these to interior designers and decorators around the country from their showroom in New York City. The desk lid is accessible, now easily opened to lay supported on the open drawer- this reveals an original tooled black and gilt leather writing surface, three small hand dovetailed drawers, a pen rest flanked by inkwell cubbies and a storage space inside. Resting over that are three larger drawers. Again each hand dovetailed with solid mahogany secondary woods, the bottom of each drawer chamfered along the sides to rabbet into the frame and nailed at the back with tiny nails. A curious inscription on the pine beneath the middle top drawer is a possible attribution to it's maker, an upside-down V with an S scrolled inside- the same inscription appears in very large proportions on the backboard as viewed by removing the top drawers and peering back into the antique french desk. The interior is inscrutable unfortunately. Much of it being locked up with the dust boards, roll top and lower drawer that is not removable. Each drawer is framed in brass tubular molding around the gilt bronze drawer hardware. The top is a piece of mottled red and cream marble. French Louis XVI Antique Satin Wood Marquetry Writing Secretary Desk Chest Table This is a magnificent Louis XVI style antique Secretary Desk leather top writing desk with satin wood burl wood insets and superb marquetry and parquetry bordering on satin wood grained fronts and sides with finely engraved brass mounts. Dolphin feet, and drawer pulls. It measures about 32 inches(81.28 cm) tall by 25.2 inches(64 cm) wide by 16 inches(40.64 cm) deep. It weighs over 41 pounds(18.6 Kg) by itself. Without any packing materials. It features two pull out drawers with wavy. Curved fronts, plus a slide out pull out leather topped writing desk platform that also can be taken completely out. The drawers are all dove tailed joined indicating earlier era construction and show aged wood inside. There is magnificent marquetry pinstripe bordering very finely ... moreinset wood pieces that are only found on the more exceptionally crafted pieces. Here's what I stated about this gorgeous cabinet's condition: One wood split crack and chip of inlaid veneer marquetry on front middle of bottom drawer. The drawers have some resistance when pulling out. But the can be pulled out completely and fairly easily, but just have some snug fit little tug drag to them, as does the slide out writing desk platform, but not at all a problem and just not real easy and loose pulling out. Some minor surfaces scratches, but other than these remarkably well preserved and beautiful condition dovetail joined antique writing desk cabinet. Truly an incredibly beautiful and stand out showcase piece that is hard to find one as remarkably crafted as this. So you may want to grab it quick, before it is gone! French Louis XVI Style Cylinder Top Writing Desk c. 19th Century Item# 130009GFL22 This is a gorgeous little treasure; crafted during the 19th Century. This French Louis XVI Style Ladies Writing Desk features a Cylinder Roll top that functions in conjunction with the opening of the single drawer. This effectively allows you to lock the desk and all contents with a single lock, because with the drawer being locked there is no access to the roll top; with the roll top being closed, the slant front is unable to open and the compartment beneath is sealed. The desk does not come with it's key, though these keys are often not difficult to come by. Retaining a warm cognac-mahogany tone throughout, a patina slowly developing under many layers of wax, the piece is delightful to look upon. The slant front drops to reveal a pink-red tone leather ... morewriting surface with gilt highlights, this likely a replacement. The back of this lifts to reveal a storage compartment. Three small hand dovetailed drawers with brass molding rest beneath a pair of inkwells flanking the concave pen channel. This is a beautiful and rare piece. It is a 19th century and I was told possibly 18th century French desk that was painted and gilded to be free standing as the design is also in the back. It has lovely lines and it is beautifully painted with flowers and medallions. Here we have for auction a stuning Napoleon III Empire style mahogany and brass inlaid twin pedestal desk dating to the mid 19th century. This beautiful example has a moss green baize inset top over a bank of three frieze drawers being raised on twin pedestals with column detailing on spread pad feet. The cupboard doors open to reveal sliding drawers and shelves. The desk is also finished to the rear in a similar style so could easily be used in the middle of a rom. This is a beautiful French writing desk with brass ormolu trim, brass molded edge, and a tag in French that says ... moreit’s from France. It’s has ormolu trim on the top part of the legs, and on the bottom. It has three dovetail drawers, comes with a key, although we never guarantee the locks to work, but it does have one. The finish of the wood is cherry color, and I’m not really sure what kind of wood it is, although it may be yew. It does have some wormholes in it, that show that it came from overseas during that period, and which add lots of charm and character. It has a green gold tooling embossed leather top, border edge in brass, brass ormolu trim on the legs, and brass inlaid on all the drawer fronts. The overall size is 46 inches wide, 25 inches deep, and 30 inches tall. A most impressive antique. Circa 1900, solid mahogany French Empire(circa 1800, or Napoleonic) desk. It has twelve tapered column supports collared in ormolu brass. The plinth column bases are connected by four serpentine stretchers to a center oval with footrest. The case sides and front drawer have ormolu brass mounts with swords, wreaths, rosettes, anf palmettes. The drawer handles have rosettes. Desk measures 30-3/4" tall by 48" wide by 29-1/2" deep. The distance from bottom of drawer to floor is 24" Very good plus condition: mahogany boards without chips or cracks, original glossy finish. The three board top has traces of blotter? removal that has effected the finish, but no gouges or scratches.
