This roll-cylinder secretary features a wonderful ... moreheavy carved crest, and dates from the 1880's. It comes with three original shelves that are adjustable behind the wavy glass doors. It has burl walnut panels coming down both sides, heavy crown molded top and a crest with big ball finials on each end. It has a commode base with three drawers and a door. The only thing I don’t like about this cylinder desk is that the finish is light, similar to a cherry, but it is walnut wood. It has the original heavy bold brass hardware, and is in really nice shape. The pull-out writing surface has green felt on it. When you open the double panel cylinder roll, it reveals a simplistic double drawer interior that is simplistic.

Outstanding Victorian walnut cylinder desk. This intricately detailed piece has definite Eastlake influences including a decorative grid pattern that borders the panelled sides and back and elaborate scroll decoration below the writing surface. Cylinder top conceals pigeon holes and a pull-out writing surface covered in emerald green felt. Brass hinges. Diamond-shaped escutcheons and rosette-mounted bail handle drawer pulls. One long shallow top drawers as well as three half-size drawers and a generous cabinet space. Dowel construction throughout including the drawers, top and back. The locking mechanisms in the drawers have two patent dates- April, 1875 and August, 1882. No maker's marks. Over all this piece is in very good condition. Especially considering its age. Awesome desk with the cabinet modesty panel in the center of bottom section, all original hardware on the drawer bottom and on the full interior section. Victorian cylinder or barrel roll- top secretary desk and bookcase - 1800's
Antique high top desk/bookcase. The top and bottom come apart at base of glass door book case. This is a warm- toned walnut wood with burled walnut panels. My parents purchsed this as an antique in the 1950's from previous elderly owners- not antique store. They did not replace any of the hardware or the glass during the time they owned it and I believe these to be the original. But have no way of telling- glass has tiny bubbles, but I don't see a wave. The desk appears to be in good condition. The top of the desk pulls out for a writing surface. The writing surface is rough on top and some of the drawers have ink stains. as mentioned- this item has pretty much been left in original state. This is a very attractive and interesting piece. It is in good condition for the age. The secretary needs a little TLC. In the picture it looks like there is a gap between the roll and the desk side but there is not I just did not have the cylinder part of the desk down on the peg where it rests on the desk. There is some minor wood working that needs to be done. A few of the ears need to be fixed and the desk needs to have a writing surface made. Made from solid oak(NO VENEER) and in very good condition with some light scratches and rubs from age and use. Measures 42 1/4" tall. 34 1/8" wide and 21 1/2" deep. A nice space saver desk. All drawers slide in and out good and the slide out writing desk top slides in and out very good as well.Appears to have been refinished at one point in time and the handles are not original to the desk. Trying to get someone to help move this away from the wall so that I can take pictures of the back. There is the stagecoach information where this traveled from the east coast to the west coast. I believe it says in 1864. Its been a few decades since I saw it back there. The skeleton key locks the cabinet. No one walks in my door without commenting on it.
