Made of Mahogany. This Slope has Brass corners, top and bottom and also brass braces midway down to secure it properly, so the box is in very sound condition. The hinges and lock are also brass(have no key) There is also a shaped brass plate on the top with engraved initials–looks like an‘AT’ Inside opens up to reveal the leatherette writing space, there is also a place for inkwells and a curved compartment for pens. The bottom compartment opens up to reveal an open compartment but it has 2 small draws that fit underneath the pens compartment and are somewhat secret. The top compartment has no fittings but has beautiful grained mahogany- see photos. Size: outside box measurements 13 ¾” x 9 ½” and 5“ h. Condition: It is original antique condition. The brass is left as is unpolished. There are scratches some fairly deep, mostly on the lid. Also inside there is a devise which is to spring up the top, but does not seems to work and it has been opened by pulling up on the wood, and on the right corner it has caused an area where the veneer is starting to pull away from the base. All are relatively easy problems to fix. This is a Slope for someone looking for a box in original condition. It is price according to its condition. C. 1860, ADJUSTABLE LETTER INLAID CENTER& SIDE COMPARTMENTS This is a handsome early Victorian English mahogany reading and writing table dating to approximately 1860. The rectangular top has rounded corners and an adjustable center section inlaid with a brown leather panel decorated with gilt tooling. Flanking the center section are two hinged panels which open outward to reveal compartments. One open and the other with dividers. The front of the piece has a frieze center drawer with its original brass lock. Flanking this center drawer are two keyholes and locks which secure the compartments above. The side opposite the drawer has a slide which pulls out to provide a second writing surface. The table stands on beautiful leaf carved trestle feet with concealed brass ... morecasters. 19th Century Solid Mahogany Bench Made Partner's Desk W/Ornate Details Ball/Claw
A beautiful antique desk! This is a solid mahogany partner's desk that dates to the second half of the 19th Century. We do not know the maker or the region of origin. This piece is bench made and hand carved. The desk measures as follows: width = 50 1/8" depth = 27.75" height = 30 3/8" height to bottom edge at center of kneehole = 23" height to bottom edge of trim at kneehole = 22" The top of the desk has carved designs in all four corners. The edge has an ornate dental mold style trim all the way around. The secondary woods are also mahogany and the drawers have champhored bottoms and dove tails in the front and back. This piece was refinished some time in the early 20th century. There is an area on the top that is sun bleached on one of the ends as well as one of the legs. This same leg has a repair on it as ... morewell. Two of the legs have been repaired on this piece. They appear to be professional repairs. One of them has a very slight movement to it but the desk remains solid and sturdy. This is th eleg that has sun fade on it. The four legs have a beautiful carved design running vertically that ends just above the ball& claw foot. The knee hole has corner mounted pieces that are carved as well. There are age and use appropriate scratche and dings as well. This is a previously owned item and it is being sold as shown. Please view photos carefully and feel free to ask questions. After the polish drys out the crotched mahogany panels on the desk's lid will really pop with it graining that is a bit subdued after it was polished. English Mahogany Schoolmaster's Antique Desk w/ Slanted Leather Top Late 19th Century w/ Ebonized Reeded Legs in the George III Style Item# 130009FPX20 This is a just lovely English Antique Schoolmaster's desk. Crafted in the late 19th Century of solid mahogany, mahogany veneers and pine secondaries. The slanted top provides a fine writing surface, covered in a warm-khaki tone tooled leather; lifting over original brass hinges, the interior retains what is probably an original blue paper liner and reveals a large storage space. Every aspect of the top is crafted with dovetails, from the tiny inkwells to the joinery of the entire slant front portion of the desk. Two small hand dovetailed drawers retain their original stamped brass hardware, framed in ebonized stringer inlays and retaining the same light blue papered liner. The desk ... morerests over boldly reeded and ebonized legs that terminate simply in stumped toes. Simply gorgeous for anyone decorating their home and looking for a great form in the hallway or entry way. A highly unique side table for a living room or a small writing desk to actually use for work and storage, this is a wonderful selection. This is a very handsome and substantial chest of drawers. It is adorned in a great figured mahogany and accented by original lion head brass pulls. Carved columns and finely turned feet. Please note we had to take these photos coming into the shop. It was 6 degrees that day and this caused the waxes on mahogany pieces to freeze and fog up. The finish on this chest is just wonderful. This is in a two over graduated four drawer format with the first of the four full sized drawers being an extra large drawer. All the drawers are defined by cock bead moldings with all original hand hewn wide plank chamferd panels, the finest dovetailed joinery ... moreand its original back panel. Great 19Th Century Formal Mahogany Hepplewhite Slant Lid Lap Desk. Hidden Draws
For sale is a great late 19th century formal mahogany Hepplewhite slant lid lap desk. The lap desk is an overall good condition with some areas of repair as noted in the pictures. This lap desk has several areas of hidden compartments and we've taken pictures of those areas before your consideration. The grain of the mahogany is a very nice with lots of green shelling in a medium brown wooden tone. There are two holding handles on each side of this piece. We are unsure if they are original to this lap desk. The escutcheons looked to be all original with original natural material. The draws all contain original dovetail joinery with what looks like poplar or pine as a secondary wood. There are a few original pieces left in this lap desk including some old glass inkwells a quilt pen and a small holding box. They will be included in the ... moresale but will be packed separately. Offered here is an excellent antique 19th century English secretary desk. This desk is in very good antique condition. It stands 87" high. Is 44" wide at the widest point and 22" deep. Each side of the base is built with a single 22" mahogany board. The desk features an interior fitted with 6 small drawers, a locking(key included) door interior compartment, and flanking that, 2"hidden" vertical pull out cash and document compartments which are disguised as books. These have actual leather bindings labeled in gold ROWE'S WORKS 1 and ROWE'S WORKS 2. Please see photos. The base houses 4 graduated drawers and the pull outs to support the desk writing surface. This desk is solid and stable. This desk. As is the case with all truly old furniture, does have some condition issues. This desk is outfitted with eight drawers. Including a double sized file drawer, twin pull out writing tabs, hand tooled leather top, nice original brasses and finish. The partners side of the desk has faux drawer facings. Both sides and the knee hole is accented with paneled moldings and very attractive base molding surrounding each of its double pedestals.
