The chair measures approximately 12 3/4" wide, 12 3/4" deep. and 26 1/2" tall. The wood looks to be maple. The condition is awesome for used furniture over 80 year old. Some vintage wear, but nothing to diminish the antique beauty. The roll top rolls beautifully. The top cover appears to be restored. High quality. Hard to find swivel chair with very few flaws. It has a blind front oak panel where the center drawer once sat but for some reason the previous owner chose to do away with the drawer and make a blind front oak board. The original drawer guides are still intact and you could easily add a drawer box to the panel to have a top center drawer again. Dating from the 1890s era. It is in complete restored condition and all set to go in the home. We take a lot of pride in doing up our antiques nicely, and we certainly went all out here, with our head refinisher Norm doing a job of unbelievable quality on this desk. It has a tiger sawn writing surface in the center, which had to be glued back down as most desks of this age. We also had to re-glue everything, reinforce the roll, sand, strip, stain, and apply multiple coats of sealer and satin sheen lacquer on this hard-to-find 66-inch-wide roll-top desk by the Derby Desk Company of Boston, Mass. If you’ve been looking for a roll-top, and you’d like one to brag about, this one gives you all the bragging rights you’ll ever need. Look at the carved handles, which are much better than normal, and how thick the top and swing sides and writing surface are. Everything on this piece is much better quality than the average desk. Here is the best SOLID OAK antique American roll top desk I have seen in many years. It was recently purchased from a local estate of a woman who had been in the antique business since the 1960's. I remember visiting her shop which was super interesting with lots of nooks and crannies filled with beautiful and out of the ordinary mostly American antiques. This desk was purchased in 1969 by a man who ended up as her husband and it remained in their family until now. Apparently. As the story goes, he was a student then and could not afford to buy the desk so he worked it off by doing odd jobs and helping around the shop. Everything is original from the finish to the locking system for the drawers and lock set and sliding locking mechanism for the top to the castors to the drawer slides to the fabric on the tambour door to the hardware and ... moredrawer pulls. There are four drawers with the shell carved handles on one side and three drawers and four handles on the other side as the bottom drawer is the double door. It has all of the striking features of a top of the line roll top desk or curtain desks as they were called back in the day. Long dead, who dealt in many many roll top desk told me that if you had a desk with a 5 digit inventory number that is was made by stickley and brandt. at any rate i would stake a good bit on his opinion. the stamped in inventory no. on this desk is 18173. regardless of who made this desk, it is top quality material and workmanship. the desk is 50 inches tall with a s waterfall top with a tambur that rolls and moves with great ease, no stopping, catching, jamming, etc. it rolls like butter. the other dimensions are, it is 50 inches wide and 32 inches deep. the desk top is 30 inches from the floor. it has the original key cover plate and strike plate on the desk top writing ... moresurface. the old lock has lost it's guts so i replaced the lock. anyway the top will lock if you choose to do so. it has a wonderful set of cubbies, complete with two pencil holders, i forgot to open for pictures and one drawer with a carved pull. i expect there may have been another drawer on the other side that has fell by the wayside somewhere and time in the last 120 years. the remainder of the cubby holes are as they should be. they were never designed for drawers and the openings are a good bit smaller than the ones that would accept a drawer. it has 4 drawers of wonderful construction on the left bank of the cabinet portion, most of which contain dividers. the right bank consists of three drawers, the bottom is a double drawer suited for file folders, it has a divider long ways down the center. i also forgot to open the drawers for pictures. i have used the 12 pictures ebay allows, but if anyone want pictures of the inside of the drawers or anything else i will be glad to send them to you. the drawers all have carved pulls in mint condition. underneath the desk top are four scotch and secure blocks which slide into a groove about 1/2 inch below the top part of the

Believe this is RIFT not QUARTER SAWN OAK. It is an"S" style desk, most likely mfg. between 1890 and 1900, notice the hand done dovetailing on the and the carved drawer handles. The locks on the tambour and center drawer are from Corbin Cabinet and Lock Company. It was disassembled in the late 60's and completely refinished. This desk has 2 Pull Out writing surfaces. And is 60"L 32"W 49"H and consists of 6 pieces; 2 Pedestals, Tambour section, desk top insert, and the lower back connecting section between the 2 Pedestals(many of the desks shown here don't have this) Desk is panel sided. Dividers in the desk top insert can be removed for reconfiguration. I have keys for the 2 locks. This desk will dress up any room that it is put in. NO RESERVE For Auction is this antique Oak"S" Curve Roll Top Desk. Single Pedestal. Made by the"Indianapolis Cabinet Co. Indianapolis, Ind. The lock on the desk top is dated 1884. There is no lock inside the key hole/lock compartment. It has recessed panels on both sides and back. The Roll Top slides up and down. Not a smooth slide. You have to hold both handles to open and close. It tends to stick when sliding. The flat surface of the desk appears to have been refinished at one time and it has a brownish stain on the desk. The top portion of the desk sets on the base. It does not bolt into the base. There are signs of wear in the form of scratches. Chips to the wood and repairs that I tried to show in the many photos. I have never seen a roll top desk quite like this one. It might have been custom made for use in a office. It is all original, in obvious need of refinishing, unless you prefer the original condition, albeit stains, scratches, etc. typical of piece of this age. There is a large roll up door on left with compartments and one drawer, the board pulls out allowing leg room to work at desk, it seems a big short, but if you measure to top of pull out board it measures 25" high, appears to be ample room for your legs. Overall dimensions of the desk are 45" wide by 31" deep by 44" tall. The right side has small roll up door with compartments for files, note the name"Dearborn" stamped on surface. There are total of 6 drawers on right side with original carved wood handles. Once refinished this desk would sell for $2500 ... moreto $3000, depending upon your market. for auction is a very rare model signed grand rapids desk company roll top desk with a bookcase on top. i have a 20 years book with one identical to this listed in it. it was valued at 2800 osver 20 years ago. anyway. This is a wonderful desk, great quartersawn flake all thru all the boards. great construction and quite heavy for its size. it has too many features to mention, but hopefully the pictures will bring them out. the desk portion is 28 inches deep, 31 tall, and 40 inches wide. it has nicely form doors with great carving on the fronts, the one on the left opens to expose three small drawers, the one on the right opens to nicely scalloped dividers. the knee hole of the desk is rounder out at the back and is nicely paneled on either side. the roll top is 11 inches tall, 37 wide, and 25.25 deep and has a nice set of cubbies with a pull ... moreout drawer and pencil holders etc. the roll top rolls like butter and has the grand rapids desk company brass name plate over the lock of which i do not have a key. i have a key blank for it and can make a key if i get time. the top bookcase portion sits in a recess of the top of the roll top and is 37 inches wide, 10.75 deep, and 30.5 inches tall including the crown board. it retains the original wavy glass, lock, quartersawn oak fancy dividers for the top of the glass and has one shelf which can be adjusted to your liking as there are additional holes in both side of the cabinet to place the shelf holder pins. the entire unit is nicely paneled and finished all the way around so it can be placed anywhere in a room and will look nice, it is not necessary to place against a wall. the unit is three portion which come apart with ease. it may be picked up at my home or shipped at buyer's expense. good luck. Massive Antique Quarter-Sawn Oak Roll Top Desk Owned by Canadian Mounties
Massive antique oak roll top desk made by Horrocks— practically a ship. 71.5" wide. 35" almost 35.5" deep, with 30.5" of desk surface, and 43" high at the tallest point. This desk spent most of its life in an office of the Canadian Mounties. A traveling U.S. citizen fell in love with it and talked the Mounties into selling it to him; he moved it to Colorado, where he discovered it was too big to fit into his study/office, and so it went into storage for 40 years. It came to Santa Cruz, CA, in 1970; my father, who loves all things massive and well-made, bought it and it has been in my family's home since then. It needs a new home. A big one. With a big door. The smaller things: this desk has three deep drawers to the left of the chair space and two to the right(one is sized as a file cabinet) And a large flat drawer ... morewith a key(we have the key) It has many small drawers at the back of the desk space. There are two very cool corner drawers(on the inside of the inner arch, and they open up to a curved trough, which is perfect for pens and pencils. There is a mystery drawer with no known key. There are two pull-out writing tables. One drawer has a chip taken out of the wood, and we have the piece(as shown) One leg(to the left of the chair space) needs some refinishing. The desk is in very good general condition, and could use a good waxing. The hardware is brass. The roll top can stick but it works. And we have the key for it, too. Finally, the number"1821" is stamped on the underside of the desk. This is a splendid and dramatic desk. It is also comfortable to use. Its size makes it easier to accommodate modern office equipment than most antiques.

19th CENTURY GOLDEN OAK "S" ROLL TOP BUSINESS DESK
This unique. Beautiful, solid oak business desk is a replica of the Ross Desk's design patented in 1883 and one of the first roll top designs made by Forest City Furniture Co. Rockford, IL. This piece has hand written penciled notes that are barely legible on the wood underneath the desk in the drawer space. It is pictured in the Gallery as photo#8 and there is a legible date of 6- 1888 above a list of other written words that are illegible on this photographed panel in the small square lightened section. It is visible through the use of a magnifying glass. There are two writing slats on each side above the drawer and cabinet side pedestals. There is a paneled wide knee space under the desk top; five dovetail. Tongue and groove full extension drawers including wooden dowels as shown in photo#11. This is an Antique 19th Century Victorian Oak Roll Top Desk dating from the late 1800s. It measures 47 1/2 inches wide by 29 1/2 inches from front to back. It is 48 1/4 inches high. The back is finished. It has two slide out trays. On the left there are 4 drawers. On the right there are two regular sized drawers and below them is a very deep drawer that is the size of two drawers in height. The drawer on the right hand side at the top has a different style of handle. There is no middle drawer. There are a lot of cubby holes in the desk. Please see pictures for condition. ROLL TOP DESK - Derby Desk Boston USA - Tiger Oak W/ Key 1890's - S Roll
Derby Desk Company: George H. Derby opened a small furniture company in Boston in 1872. By 1879 he was producing roll-top desks. A partner joined him the following year and his business became Derby and Kilmer Desk Co. Then Derby, Kilmer and Pond Desk Co. In the mid 1890s, the firm was incorporated as the Derby Desk Co. Its headquarters were in Boston, but it had a large factory in Somerville, Mass. just outside of Boston. The company expanded across the country until it was bought by another firm in 1931. Derby roll-top desks sell for a few hundred dollars into the low thousands, depending on style and condition. This desk was inherited by us from my brother-in-law who was an avid antique collector. It was in his home for many. Many years. It was probably purchased on the Northern East Coast. I do not know what profession may have used this ... moredesk as it has many, many drawers and pigeon holes. It is in really nice. Original shape. It is a locking desk. We have the key! It also has what they call a"secret lock" which locks all the desk drawers below. Beautiful Tiger Oak S-Roll desk- has 31 drawers including two pencil drawers. Drawers are tilt-out type and regular drawers. Also has many pigeon holes. And a doored storage compartment in top section. Also has places for paper, etc. Bottom drawers with file drawer- also has two slide out writing areas. Roll top rolls fine. Desk surface is in nice condition. A little cleaning and it will be a gem. We are moving and cannot take it with us. There are a couple wood splits on a couple panels. And there is a small area about 1.5" on the top of the desk that the oak veneer is missing. Overall- the desk is in beautiful. Original condition. Nothing has been done to it that we know of- or since we've had it. It has been stored. Knee hole 20 1/2" wide x 24 3/4" high at mid point. This desk has been completely restored at some point in the past and is fully functional. Some drawer are slightly tighter in their movements than others. But all are in working order. The top portion of the desk has twenty-eight(28) drawers and twelve(12) slots. The bottom desk section has eight(8) drawers and two pull out slides. Finish is in great condition with minimal wear and minor nicks and scratches. Some ink staining on the writing surface and right top drawer add character and authenticity to the age of the piece. The desk is very unusual with swing side ends, which means that they flip around with a latch that allows it to go to the back side so the“S” top(which normally is a pain for people with computers, will not be a problem with this desk) Someone had lost the original thumb latch locks, and has replaced with modern day locks, which work fine. The roll has been all re-canvassed and re-glued so it won’t rip apart as original rolls usually done. The desk has been hand stripped, hand stained, multiple coats of sanding sealer, hand sanded many more times and multiple coats of satin sheen lacquer has been hand rubbed to insure many years

Oak 1895 Antique Roll Top Desk. Raised Panels, Leather Top. An outstanding"S" curve roll top desk from about 1895 is solid quarter sawn oak with raised panels and subtle carved rosettes. The deep finish is in excellent condition. Preserving mars and wear at the edges for antique character. Cast brass hardware is original on dovetailed side drawers, including a file drawer. Originally, there was no center drawer, the original cross piece was used to create a new functional center drawer. The writing surface and pull out shelves have saddle leather inserts on this American made office furniture. There are mail slots in the sides. The roll top lock is missing. Inside are tiny drawers. Cubicles and pencil holders. The upper section is removable for easier delivery.
