There are a few light surface scratches to the finish from general use, but it has been very well cared for, and is in amazing condition. I am unsure of the exact age or manufacture of the piece. It most likely dates to the middle to last part of the 19th Century. It does have some cracking in the front writing surface of the desk, but these areas are superficial thus far. The desk is made of what I believe is mahogany, and has ornately carved accecents on the vitrine shelf supports which are done in reverse scrolls.

Neat inlays and borders. it measures 12.5 long by 8 wide by 5 tall. the inside has compartments, and hinged covers on the inside. the hinge on the left side of the top inside is loose, and the felt has disintegrated from the boards on the inside and the bottom. there is a removable pencil holder. the desk is solid and has no damage other than the broken hinge on the inside. see my other auctions for more neat old items. Stunning antique Victorian Renaissance revival writing desk. Made from Walnut with contrasting burl walnut panels at the front of the writing surface and across the raised back. Elaborate fretwork shaped legs and back. Lift top has been covered in red leather(newer? and has a mirror on the underside. Partitioned storage space painted turquoise. There is a molded shelf across the top of the piece. Supported by scrollwork and perfect for holding knick knacks, framed pictures or small books. No maker's marks. The desk boasts solid golden oak fielded panels throughout and features the original oak cup handles to the pedestal. On each side of the tambour. There is a posting slot for mail(this allowed people to post mail into the desk while the tambour was locked) There is an oak modesty board, with two pullout-writing slides above 4 drawers in each pedestal. The interior has 14 internal drawers and 13 internal compartments and with brass finger hooks and knobs. The desk features a locking mechanism when the roll-top is closed. The lock and key are in working order. The two top drawers feature a working lock& key. The internal drawers are constructed of sycamore. The oak has an excellent tight grain with a wax finish. There is a top section that lifts that goes the entire away across with the molding. Revealing pigeon holes/cubbies. On either side of the piece are large doors.the left side has a grid of cubbies. The dovetails are not hand cut and irregular. But are consistent. Online I found this description: A close inspection shows no irregular saw cuts or variation from a skilled craftsman, but rather a precise and identical manufactured machined joint. These machine-cut dovetails are as strong and long lasting as the hand-made joints, and became the standard of better American furniture ever since the late 1890's. So this desk may be very late 1800s or early 1900s. Another indication is that the back is not multiple boards. But appears to be an early plywood? There is a tiny hole drilled in the back where I think my dad had our phone(land line) cord come in so the phone could be in the desk. Regardless, it is a beautiful old desk. This is high society 1880's and as you can see this even looks fashionable in the 21st Century.because nobody makes highly carved things like they did in the Victorian era. This desk has one drawer and one fake front on each side of the desk making it a Partner's Desk. This desk is in very nice condition with a chip to the original finial's bottom. An unusual find at an estate sale is this 1800s Victorian travel writing desk with inkwell. Stuffed full of copperplate handwritten letters. There are over 100 letters, some with envelopes, in the storage compartment under the blotter. The beautiful wood box needs restoration, however, as it is in damaged condition. The front lock is missing, there is a brass curved corner piece missing, and the lid does not sit square- looks like a problem with a hinge adjustment. The felt on the underside is missing, and the blue velvet blotter on the writing surface is stained. A cut glass inkwell is missing its lid. There is a crack in the veneer on the front, and a chip on the back. The inlaid brass straps are present with original patina. The brass oval disc on the lid is loose, and has not been monogrammed. Victorian Inlaid Wood Traveling Lap Desk for Writing As Is Shown. 4" height 12 3/4" length 8 1/2" width This lap desk is in fair condition. There are some scratches and small gouges throughout the piece due to normal wear. The wood on the top of the case has chipped away along the bottom edge and along the bottom right edge. The wood has also chipped away around the corners of the piece. Some of the inlaid wood has been replaced(see pics) The floral design that has been inlaid into front is still intact. There are small white paint splatters on the top of the case. The wood trim is coming loose along the left side of the top half of the case. Some of the corners on this piece do not align tightly. Three of the ... morecorners appear to have been repaired before. There is a lock on the lower front half of the desk; the key is missing. There are two hinges on the back of the case. One side of each hinge has come loose from the case. The holes where the screws were secured have become worn down and too large. The inside of the lap desk is in good condition. There are no cracks or chips on the wood inside of the case. There is a purple velvet-like material inside the case that is still intact and has no rips or holes. The inside of the case also has a 1.5" deep slot with four seperate compartments. The largest compartment has a removable cover. The wood inside of the desk can also lift up to reveal a compartment that is 11 3/4" long x 5 3/4" high x 2" deep. Being sold as is. As shown, see pictures for details. Made from a lovely dark walnut wood and covered with a red leather writing surface. This desk is quite the find! Two easily opening drawers provide some storage in this desk. They are constructed with hand cut dovetails which are a sign of authenticity and quality. Each drawer ... morefeatures a unique brass handle. Locks are present but there is no key. Four turned legs are connected via a lovely turned stretcher which adds beauty and stability to this antique writing desk. Four brass casters at the bottom provide the ability to roll the desk short distances. One of the more unusual and attractive feature of the desk are the quarter round accents on the sides of the desk. Just under the top. Fluted lines can be found on these accents, the drawers, and all over the legs and stretcher. This fluted line style was one of may used in the Victorian period. This desk was originally made in England around 1890 and is rated in good condition. It is sturdy and stable. There are numerous dings and dents throughout the top and drawer fronts of varying sizes. Antique 19th C 1880's Victorian Walnut Leather Top Kneehole Writing Table Desk
This Auction is for an Antique 19th Century Approximately 1870's Victorian Walnut Kneehole Writing Table Desk- Nice Size Perfect For A Unique Functional Computer Desk. It measures 31 1/4" tall by 43" wide by 28" deep- it has five drawers with what appears to be its original turned wood handles- it has hand dovetailed drawers and is square nailed- the finish is either original or an old refinish- the leather top I believe is an old replacement- this is a chunky solid very well made piece of furniture- it has some minor use wear on the finish. Two of the drawer locks are missing, and the back corner brace came loose and needs to be reglued- other than those flaws it is in very good condition.
