It is walnut boards with ... morewalnut veneer door fronts and roll. The crest has a gutta percha molded panel with ribbon and flowers, spoon carved flowers on walnut as well. The back boards of the bookcase have maple. The bookcase doors have the original wavy glass panels. There are three adjustable walnut fronted maple shelves. Includes the lock and key. The secretary has a butterflied burl veneer roll top. The writing surface frame pulls forward, the cubbyhole in maple with walnut drawers. Shown on the red felt writing surface is the walnut finial to the center bookcase crest that needs gluing back on. Below the writing frame are three center graduated walnut drawers with maple interiors over the bottom long drawer. There are two side door cabinets. The right cabinet is for folders or folios, the left with shelves. Includes all original brass door pulls and the locks, and the walnut escutcheons. The furniture is in the original finish, burl veneers without chips. Glass panels are perfect. The total measurements(with finial glued back) are 8' 95" tall by 3'4" 40" wide by 22-1/2" deep. This English Cylinder Rolltop Desk is such a piece. It was made by Edwards& Roberts(last photo) in England in the 1840's. It has a rich oak patina, tooled leather writing surface, the center one raises for reading, etc. and birdseye maple drawers and trim inside. The writing surface pulls out for added work space, and the cylinder roll is solid oak, not slats as in most rolltops. The incised spoon or chip carving is charming. A pull out writing surface has natural saddle leather. Inside are cubicles and tiny drawers. The original finish is in very fine condition with some crazing or crackling from age on this hand made American antique furniture. Lower drawers have original engraved pulls. The satiny finish is in excellent condition with warm antique patina on this American made furniture. Under the matched grain roll top are cubicles and a drawer for papers. The saddle leather writing surface pulls out to use. Lower drawers have round or"pin and cove" dovetail joints, characteristic of the period. The removable bookcase has original wavy glass doors and shelves that adjust on wooden supports, the lock still works.
