Dating from the 1890s era. It is in complete restored condition and all set to go in the home. We take a lot of pride in doing up our antiques nicely, and we certainly went all out here, with our head refinisher Norm doing a job of unbelievable quality on this desk. It has a tiger sawn writing surface in the center, which had to be glued back down as most desks of this age. We also had to re-glue everything, reinforce the roll, sand, strip, stain, and apply multiple coats of sealer and satin sheen lacquer on this hard-to-find 66-inch-wide roll-top desk by the Derby Desk Company of Boston, Mass. If you’ve been looking for a roll-top, and you’d like one to brag about, this one gives you all the bragging rights you’ll ever need. Here is the best SOLID OAK antique American roll top desk I have seen in many years. It was recently purchased from a local estate of a woman who had been in the antique business since the 1960's. I remember visiting her shop which was super interesting with lots of nooks and crannies filled with beautiful and out of the ordinary mostly American antiques. This desk was purchased in 1969 by a man who ended up as her husband and it remained in their family until now. Apparently. As the story goes, he was a student then and could not afford to buy the desk so he worked it off by doing odd jobs and helping around the shop. Everything is original from the finish to the locking system for the drawers and lock set and sliding locking mechanism for the top to the castors to the drawer slides to the fabric on the tambour door to the hardware and ... moredrawer pulls. There are four drawers with the shell carved handles on one side and three drawers and four handles on the other side as the bottom drawer is the double door. It has all of the striking features of a top of the line roll top desk or curtain desks as they were called back in the day. for auction is a wonderful solid quartersawn oak roll top desk. this desk has no veneers and the quartersawn oak flake is as good as i have ever seen or owned. an old man. Long dead, who dealt in many many roll top desk told me that if you had a desk with a 5 digit inventory number that is was made by stickley and brandt. at any rate i would stake a good bit on his opinion. the stamped in inventory no. on this desk is 18173. regardless of who made this desk, it is top quality material and workmanship. the desk is 50 inches tall with a s waterfall top with a tambur that rolls and moves with great ease, no stopping, catching, jamming, etc. it rolls like butter. the other dimensions are, it is 50 inches wide and 32 inches deep. the desk top is 30 inches from the floor. it has the original key cover plate and strike plate on the desk top writing ... moresurface. the old lock has lost it's guts so i replaced the lock. anyway the top will lock if you choose to do so. it has a wonderful set of cubbies, complete with two pencil holders, i forgot to open for pictures and one drawer with a carved pull. i expect there may have been another drawer on the other side that has fell by the wayside somewhere and time in the last 120 years. the remainder of the cubby holes are as they should be. they were never designed for drawers and the openings are a good bit smaller than the ones that would accept a drawer. it has 4 drawers of wonderful construction on the left bank of the cabinet portion, most of which contain dividers. the right bank consists of three drawers, the bottom is a double drawer suited for file folders, it has a divider long ways down the center. i also forgot to open the drawers for pictures. i have used the 12 pictures ebay allows, but if anyone want pictures of the inside of the drawers or anything else i will be glad to send them to you. the drawers all have carved pulls in mint condition. underneath the desk top are four scotch and secure blocks which slide into a groove about 1/2 inch below the top part of the

There is no lock inside the key hole/lock compartment. It has recessed panels on both sides and back. The Roll Top slides up and down. Not a smooth slide. You have to hold both handles to open and close. It tends to stick when sliding. The flat surface of the desk appears to have been refinished at one time and it has a brownish stain on the desk. The top portion of the desk sets on the base. It does not bolt into the base. There are signs of wear in the form of scratches. Chips to the wood and repairs that I tried to show in the many photos. I have never seen a roll top desk quite like this one. It might have been custom made for use in a office. It is all original, in obvious need of refinishing, unless you prefer the original condition, albeit stains, scratches, etc. typical of piece of this age. There is a large roll up door on left with compartments and one drawer, the board pulls out allowing leg room to work at desk, it seems a big short, but if you measure to top of pull out board it measures 25" high, appears to be ample room for your legs. Overall dimensions of the desk are 45" wide by 31" deep by 44" tall. The right side has small roll up door with compartments for files, note the name"Dearborn" stamped on surface. Massive Antique Quarter-Sawn Oak Roll Top Desk Owned by Canadian Mounties
Massive antique oak roll top desk made by Horrocks— practically a ship. 71.5" wide. 35" almost 35.5" deep, with 30.5" of desk surface, and 43" high at the tallest point. This desk spent most of its life in an office of the Canadian Mounties. A traveling U.S. citizen fell in love with it and talked the Mounties into selling it to him; he moved it to Colorado, where he discovered it was too big to fit into his study/office, and so it went into storage for 40 years. It came to Santa Cruz, CA, in 1970; my father, who loves all things massive and well-made, bought it and it has been in my family's home since then. It needs a new home. A big one. With a big door. The smaller things: this desk has three deep drawers to the left of the chair space and two to the right(one is sized as a file cabinet) And a large flat drawer ... morewith a key(we have the key) It has many small drawers at the back of the desk space. There are two very cool corner drawers(on the inside of the inner arch, and they open up to a curved trough, which is perfect for pens and pencils. There is a mystery drawer with no known key. There are two pull-out writing tables. One drawer has a chip taken out of the wood, and we have the piece(as shown) One leg(to the left of the chair space) needs some refinishing. The desk is in very good general condition, and could use a good waxing. The hardware is brass. The roll top can stick but it works. And we have the key for it, too. Finally, the number"1821" is stamped on the underside of the desk. This is a splendid and dramatic desk. It is also comfortable to use. Its size makes it easier to accommodate modern office equipment than most antiques.

Very Handsome Antique American Golden Oak S Curve Roll Top Desk with raised panels and carved drawer pulls. Circa 1890- 1910. 50" wide x 34" deep x 50 1/4" high. Knee hole 20 1/2" wide x 24 3/4" high at mid point. This desk has been completely restored at some point in the past and is fully functional. Some drawer are slightly tighter in their movements than others. But all are in working order. The top portion of the desk has twenty-eight(28) drawers and twelve(12) slots. The bottom desk section has eight(8) drawers and two pull out slides. Finish is in great condition with minimal wear and minor nicks and scratches. Selling a very nice SMALL SCALE c 1880 American made antique oak roll top desk in the original finish. The desk has paneled sides and is extremely well made. The drawers are all dovetailed which is the finest drawer construction. This handy roll top/ tambour desk is the smaller version of the huge roll top desks you see in old offices and Victorian libraries. This nice example is without the drawers on the left side which makes it more practical for smaller spaces; it measures 34 inches wide by 43 inches high by 25 3/4 inches deep. Some people call this a"lady's roll top" because of the diminutive size. There are plenty of cubbies for storing all your love letters. Bills, death threats or whatever. When we do a desk like this. We basically strip it down the bare finish, replace/retighten glue blocks to make sure it is tight and sturdy, sand, plane or whatever it takes to make this piece amazing. We are one of the few that actually tear down the canvas and re-canvas the roll because that is one of the things that many people pass over and then two years down the road the roll needs replacing. You won’t run into that problem with our roll tops and we will match our finish to anyone in the trade as we have been doing this for over 40 years! We are pleased to have an item look as beautiful as this desk. ... moreThe desk has 37 individual raised panels inserted on the construction of the desk. All of the components are original except for the brass knobs on the small drawers of the interior. After gluing to insure tightness, we go through and hand sand, multiple coats stain, apply multiple coats of Sherwin Williams lacquer, scuff and sand between the hand rubbed coats and finally top the table off with multiple coats of moisture resistant lacquer. We leave some of the characteristics mark in as you can see on the backside of the desk where there are a couple of little areas where they had old time repairs. The desk is simply stunning in a satin sheen lacquer. It is unusual to find a desk like this with as many raised panels and a semi full interior. The interior has 13 drawers, with pencil tray pulls, pencil drawers and carved handles. There are three slots for the letters and numerous pigeon holes. The desk was made by Standard, who was very competitive to Derby, and they made a rounded corner heavy duty piece. We have made sure that the locks work and come with keys. Large 2 peice roll top desk 45" tall 30" deep and 47" long the top does separate from base made out of oak the roll top works great this desk came out of the old sohio gas station desk is very old and heavy there is still the old advertising mat laying in the writing area I took picture of this and I took a picture without it they are 8 drawers and 2 slide outs for a type writer bottom right drawer is for filing cabinet over all the desk is in good shape they are some scratches and ware because of age they are afew spots of white paint that has dripped on it there is a deeper scratch on top that might go away with old english? Circa 1880. It boasts four graduated drawers in each pedestal. The right hand pedestal features a filing drawer in the bottom drawer of the pedestal. The desk boasts solid golden oak fielded panels throughout and features the original oak cup handles to the pedestal. There is an oak modesty board. With two pullout-writing slides above 4 drawers in each pedestal. The interior has 13 internal drawers and 12 internal compartments and with brass finger hooks and knobs. The desk features a secret locking mechanism when the roll-top is closed which locks all the drawers except the central drawer. The brass tambour lock and key are in working order. The desk sits on its original castors. The internal drawers are constructed of sycamore. The oak has an excellent tight grain with a golden wax finish. UNUSUAL rare Antique Oak Portable ROLL TOP Desk File Box with Drawer 1800"s
This is so cool. Beautiful oak file box. It is marked with what looks like a K in a circle and reads Office Equipment. It has a smooth moving roll top. And a small drawer below. I got this at an estate sale and it had calligraphy ink and pens inside. There are ink stains. But wow, this is so neat it's a file cabinet box, and I'm not sure of its original use. Dove tailed edges, and 2 small metal handles, one for the roll top and the other for the drawer. Other than staining, this is in excellent condition. Beautiful tight grain oak. This measures 10.25" long, it is almost 6'5" wide and it's height starts at just over 3" in the front, rising to just under 4" at the back. Really an unusual piece. I have never seen another like this. I am guessing this is from the late 1800"s Thanks for looking.
