Condition: Used Location: Fairfield, United States We are pleased to be offering today what I believe to be a bench made custom solid tiger sawn oak Chippendale raised panel all the way around cabriole ... moreleg flat top desk that dates from the 1890's. The desk comes with four raised panel dove tail drawers that retain all the original hardware. The center where the legs go have a reverse cove carving, which I have never seen in oak. It has a scallop bottom trim base, raised panels all the way around and a wide bevel edge on the solid tiger sawn oak top. The only negatives I see on the desk is that there is a little wear on the edge of the top from rubbing against something and there is a split going down the center of the top. We most likely could pull the top off and repair the top, which wouldn’t make a huge difference, but it is an expensive repair. The desk itself is high end quality.

Dating from the 1890s era. It is in complete restored condition and all set to go in the home. We take a lot of pride in doing up our antiques nicely, and we certainly went all out here, with our head refinisher Norm doing a job of unbelievable quality on this desk. It has a tiger sawn writing surface in the center, which had to be glued back down as most desks of this age. We also had to re-glue everything, reinforce the roll, sand, strip, stain, and apply multiple coats of sealer and satin sheen lacquer on this hard-to-find 66-inch-wide roll-top desk by the Derby Desk Company of Boston, Mass. This came into us completely stripped from someone who lost the courage to complete the job. We brought the desk in to completely re-glue. Hand sand, made a drawer, made two carved handles and made one wooden knob. You will call me when you see this desk in person to say“John I can’t find it” after you look all over for the replacement parts and I will say“that is because this guy is phenomenal at what he does. The desk is very unusual with swing side ends, which means that they flip around with a latch that allows it to go to the back side so the“S” top(which normally is a pain for people with computers, will not be a problem with this desk) Someone had lost the original thumb latch locks, and has replaced with modern day locks, which work fine. The roll has been all re-canvassed and re-glued so it won’t rip apart as original rolls usually done. The desk has been hand stripped, hand stained, multiple coats of sanding sealer, hand sanded many more times and multiple coats of satin sheen lacquer has been hand rubbed to insure many years

Vintage Victorian era Raised Panel Quartersawn Tiger Oak Desk w Eastlake design
This charming raised panel tiger oak desk dates from the late 1800's to the early 1900's. It is a large desk. And it is perfectly suited for a professional. Such as a lawyer, a banker, or a doctor. The desk has a removable top. Two pedestal bases, eight drawers, and two writing pull-outs. Please note the Eastlake design on the face of the drawers. This is a rare and unusual feature for raised panel oak desks similar to the one I am selling. The desk was refinished about 30 years ago by newlyweds who had received it as a gift from the bride's parents. The couple spent an entire summer stripping and refinishing the desk. When we do a desk like this. We basically strip it down the bare finish, replace/retighten glue blocks to make sure it is tight and sturdy, sand, plane or whatever it takes to make this piece amazing. We are one of the few that actually tear down the canvas and re-canvas the roll because that is one of the things that many people pass over and then two years down the road the roll needs replacing. You won’t run into that problem with our roll tops and we will match our finish to anyone in the trade as we have been doing this for over 40 years! We are pleased to have an item look as beautiful as this desk. ... moreThe desk has 37 individual raised panels inserted on the construction of the desk. All of the components are original except for the brass knobs on the small drawers of the interior. After gluing to insure tightness, we go through and hand sand, multiple coats stain, apply multiple coats of Sherwin Williams lacquer, scuff and sand between the hand rubbed coats and finally top the table off with multiple coats of moisture resistant lacquer. We leave some of the characteristics mark in as you can see on the backside of the desk where there are a couple of little areas where they had old time repairs. The desk is simply stunning in a satin sheen lacquer. It is unusual to find a desk like this with as many raised panels and a semi full interior. The interior has 13 drawers, with pencil tray pulls, pencil drawers and carved handles. There are three slots for the letters and numerous pigeon holes. The desk was made by Standard, who was very competitive to Derby, and they made a rounded corner heavy duty piece. We have made sure that the locks work and come with keys.
