Up for sale is this nice vintage school house small child's desk and chair with storage for lunch or books- great for decor or use. This desk is very solid with metal and wood construction- built to last! It has some wear from age as expected but overall it is in good condition. It measures 24" tall and 24 3/4" from the back rest to the front edge of the desk. No issues other than a couple of"checks& cracks" in the wood. It looks as though there was a"light" exterior restoration at some point in the past. But the wood still has it's character.with plenty of original"ware marks" still present. The steel parts and components are all in great shape, free of any nicks or gouges. Hello.I have a antique Amish Pennsylvania Dutch children's school desk up for your consideration today and being modeled by my beautiful niece Haley.It was manufactured in Lancaster.PA. and purchased by a friend while shopping in Lancaster for antiques around 25 years ago.It is a very well built desk made from local hard woods incorporating I believe mortise and tenon pegged joinery for the legs, and tung and grove on the table top and seat helping to insure and continue its longevity.Those craftsmen gave you a lot back in the day.I have this chair listed as being built around the 1930 to 1940 but it may very well be much older! The desk and chair have the usual ware that all school desks have, like some writing and scratches and even a few nicks from the school children themselves, but that is to be expected and even considered desirable ... morepatina in today's market! As a note the center board on the chair seat is a little lose as it has probably been for the last 50 yrs.or so but with this construction method I don't believe is going anywhere and should be just fine.And also is missing the left leg cross brace but remains very sturdy and hard to notice.The desk measures 24" wide at the table top x 18 1/4" deep x 26 1/2" high.No shipping on this item. Up for bid is a very nice Antique School Desk. This is a small one only 24 inches tall and is in excellent condition. It comes with the original ink well cover which is extremely rare! There is a lot of markings on the cast iron frame which include"Grand Rapids Mich. Pat. Sep 22, 1885" 5" 5 or 6R" Due to it's size I took the desk apart so shipping could be affordable. Only 6 screws took this desk completely apart so it will be very simple to put back together. While taking it apart the seat separated at one of the seams. I glued it back together and it shouldn't be an issue. If you just want the cast iron frames I can ship just them for you at a lower cost. This is a fantastic and rare early school desk. Much larger than most of those you see. It has an incredible patina, and the key is still in the lock-works, too. The desk is 36 1/2" wide x 25" deep and it stands 33" high in back and 31" high in front-so there is a slope. Antique School Desk. 1891- Used, Beautiful Condition! This desk was patented in 1891 and manufactured in Buffalo. New York. It was used in a one-room school house in La Flore County in the state of Oklahoma from the 1890's up until the 1940's or so. When the school house was torn down in 1967, this desk was saved, brought to San Diego, and kept safe and protected since then. The Desk is made from beautifully embellished black Wrought Iron& Contoured Wood. Very STURDY. The Seat easily flips up and down. The Desk-Top features a long groove(for pencils/pens) and a round hole(for an inkwell) The Desk-Top also features the inevitable markings and'artwork' left behind by many many young students over the years. There are initials. Signatures, random spelling words, dates(ie- 1917, etc. various kinds of famous symbols(historical/religious/other) ... morenonsense words and some very intriguing artwork. All of these markings are very important to the historical value and charm of the piece. Some of the markings especially illustrate what was in the minds of students during different periods of the 20th century. The desk has been re-assembled. Cleaned, detailed to a nice shine, and the wood and been cleaned/oiled/revitalized(as you can see in the photos) However, it can be easily dis-assembled as well. It is a little heavy. but will easily fit into the back of a truck/van/suv/car. Beautiful Antique Victorian Cast Iron& Wood Child's School Desk. Patent April 23 1889 on cast iron. It has yellow painting and with beautiful floral design and has marker marks. It tried to clean it with water but will not come off. It is being sold"as is" It has been repainting. Seats folds up and down nicely. Excellent ornate scroll work in the cast iron. This one has us stumped as we were not able ... moreto match it online. Though we tried. It is an antique. We estimate late 1800's to very early 1900's, folding desk and chair. When opened the desk has pencil or pen rack at the top and a stop at the bottom of the desk top. In front of the desk top is a document We are not sure what this was made for, whether a school, the military, or even a plein air artist's desk. The size makes us think this was made for a child, not a full grown adult. So we are leaning towards a portable school desk, maybe a military school. When it folds all the way up there are two canvas straps, so you can sling it over your shoulder like a backpack and carry it to its next locataion. When it is set up it measures approx. 30" from the front of the desk to the back of the chair. The top of the desk is 25 1/2" high, the back of the chair is 23 1/2" high, the seat of the chair is 11 3/4" high and it is 19 1/2" across. The fittings are all iron with flat head screws. It has a leather stay on either side to keep it together. Overall in great condition, we see two screws loose under the desk top. Superb patina. This auction is for a Fantastic Antique Wood and Cast Iron Combination School Chair and Desk with children's names carved in long ago. The cast iron legs have a neat Victorian Scroll design and are marked Buffalo New York and with the number 3 and three patent dates from 1881. 1890 and 1897. The piece oozes nostalgia with wood that has a great. Rich patina. Among the carved names are"Joyce" and"Jack" and other pictures. Including something that looks like a flower. The desk has a shelf beneath the desktop. The desktop itself has a well for pencils and a hole for an ink well. The piece was a recent purchase from an estate sale near Harrisburg. Pa. It is sturdy in all respects with a seat that folds up smoothly. My uncle was a great gatherer of items. Many of which came from stoves. I have started going through these items and will be posting some. There is a lot of great rust in this pile! These are a pair of fancy design cast iron bases for a school house desk. They are embossed with the maker AM Andrews Co Chicago, also a patent no. of 641061, I am not exactly sure how this was set up, but there is a piece on each that has a bolt and folds over, creating an"L" for the seat portion to sit on, at the top portion there are small notches where, I believe the top hooked in. These are very nice and with some creativity could be made into a number of very cool things. They measure 29" across and are 29.5" tall, the base part(feet) 19" from foot to foot. This is a very nice antique maple child's school desk with cast iron legs. It was probably made in the late 1800's and features an ink well and pencil slot on top. The cast iron has very nice scroll work and is marked A.H. Andrews Buffalo. New York. The bench has alternating colored slats giving it a very attractive look. The cast iron had been painted white at some point. It is in excellent condition given it's age. However, there are two separate cracks on the top, not including two by the inkwell. One measures approximately 5 1/2" and the other measures approximately 2 1/2" They look like they have been there for some time. The smaller one is along the seam. As found at estate sale from garage. Dust and all. 23" tall desk top, back of seat is 26 1/2" tall. Desk top is 22" x 15. 26" overall length. Desk tilts and entire top goes up and down to adjust as child grows, it has a 3" up and down play by loosening 2 round knobs on side. The top also slants at an angle and is adjustable. I could not find a makers name on it. Except the ink well is made by Henry Wilkes Bakelite, it has a glass well. This desk will last a lifetime and will be passed down from generation to generation. Up for auction is an incredible survivor set of an antique 1800's schoolhouse desk and chair set in maple. This set is in very original condition with original finish and initials carved. The ink well is missing but that is about it. These go very well together and came from the same source although I cannot verify they originally worked together. The desk is marked"Chandler" and"The Boston" on the cast iron legs. There are no other markings. The bentwood chair is in excellent condition and marked"Haywood 3 Eclipse" There are signs that both desk and chair cast iron areas were once gloss black enamel. These would look so cool if repainted. No serious rust but the black is mostly gone. A wire wheel on a drill would make quick work of this. The desk measures 24" wide x 16" deep x 30" tall. Antique Dovetailed School Master's Desk Four Drawers
For auction is a great old antique school master's desk that is hand dovetailed on all four corner joints. It is constructed mostly from poplar with some white pine but it is finished in such a way that you have to look closely to determine which wood is which. The writing surface is pine and to has bread boards on each end to prevent it from warping.The hinges for the top are not original but could be replaced very easily. The desk has had some professional repairs to it but non recently. Four holes in the top have been plugged and one leg has been jointed probably due to breakage of the original leg. Both these repair. That are shown in my pictures, were very well done. The original lock is still present but I do not have a key that fits it. The interior of the desk is stained from use. It is 33 1/2" tall at the front and 40 1/2" tall at the back. This item is for pick up only at my home near Delaware Water Gap Pennsylvania just off route 80. Up for sale are a pair of Heywood Eclipse wooden school desk chairs with adjustable metal bases. On the base is the Manufacturer name and the#3. I believe these date to 1890 time frame. They have been in my family since I was a child and at one time we had the desks to them that we used at home as kids. One chair is in better shape that the other but both are very solid with no major issues. One of the chairs does have some separation in the glue joints although nothing is loose.
