Letter holders, file card drawers etc. It is a double pedestal desk with wainscot panel sides and back panels. The right pedestal has a pull out writing board over 3 dove tail joined drawers. The left pedestal has another pull up tambour door to reveal cabinet space. It is a large 55.25" by 32.25" executive size desk w. Overall height is47.75" high with the writing desk top at a standard 30" height from the floor. It has a blind front oak panel where the center drawer once sat but for some reason the previous owner chose to do away with the drawer and make a blind front oak board. The original drawer guides are still intact and you could easily add a drawer box to the panel to have a top center drawer again. Very nice tiger oak grain throughout with a natural oak finish on the wood. It un-assembles into 3 parts for transport, Two side columns and desktop with tmabour and, desk top and cubby space. It is unfinished, natual solid walnut, with some burled walnut on the back head rest, Leaf detailing on edges of back. missing the seat pad base. the rocker spring is broken into two pieces but, still able to hold tenson. missing the tilting 3/8" x 5" bolt(sould be easy to fix) that holds the chair& base together. This is a beautiful solid black walnut slant top writing desk. Circa 1810.The figured walnut top is very rich and beautiful with its grain patterns,rich walnut tones and beauty marks. I rescued this diamond in the rough. It had many many coats of white paint hiding this beautiful black walnut wood. I lovingly& meticulously hand restored this desk back to full glory. I restored the finish with many. Many coats of hand rubbed shellac, maintaining the antique warm glow, rubbed to a silky smooth yet allowing the beautiful grain textures to be felt.There was a trim around the back of the top which was missing, I custom made this new back rail trim using reclaimed 200 year old black walnut. The drawer pulls are from a 200 year old dresser and are solid walnut hand carved pulls. The harp shaped end is gorgeous as you can easily see with its ... morecone shaped finial on the end of the hand turned support which joins it to the drawer base.The slant top is fixed in position. There is no lid that lifts up, this was designed as a writing desk, dating back to the quill pen days. There is an age shrinkage split in the top which I chose not to restore. The drawer locks are missing.I restored all the drawers, carefully taking them all apart and regluing them all and now they are rock solid and slide excellently. Full depth drawers with lots of storage.The desk is finished on all sides, allowing it to be placed anywhere in a room. The recessed flat panel sides are a great design. Adding to the beauty. Antique Davenport style desk purchased at an auction in New Jersey many years ago. It has original finish with green material(like oilcloth) writing area on top. It has beautiful graining on the inside with shelves and a small drawer. There are three pull out drawers on the right side as seen in the picture. They all have working locks as does the slanted top and the key is necessary to open the drawers as there is no knob on any of them. Every authentic antique painted piece of furniture of this nature is original unique and of its own beauty and this one is no exception. Green color is rich and deeper green in person than with camera flash. The green is likely an old oil based enamel or lead paint. The top surface is glared in a couple pictures appearing a different color but it is the same green color as the rest of the cabinet. The paint is not flaking or pealing but is still very strong adhering all over. Loads of character and charm. The whole piece is solid as a brick and not rickety or wobbly. I don't see ... moreany repairs or cracks etc. Typical wear that would be indigenous to this period and stature. I took a close up of damage on interior of the door around the drop hinge arm. Drawers function well and door closes nicely. I particularly like the shaker style going narrower to the floor as seen in the side profile. The detail in curvature of the drawer fronts is unique as well. There has been no back on the cabinet for many years. I have seen hundreds of secretaries in my days but have never seen this particular style before. This little cabinet is simply divine and could be used in so many rooms of a home to suite your taste. Antique Cylinder Desk Furniture in Texas
Cylinder Desk This is an antique desk that I had for many years and my daughter used it for several years herself but no longer wants. I believe it is a Eastlake piece. There are 3 drawers and when the cylinder top is rolled back it reveals a work surface which can be pulled outward. The work surface is covered with green felt. This allows you to pull up a chair and work at the desk. At one time there was another piece that was placed on the top of the desk but that has never been with the desk as long as I have owned it. Otherwise the desk is in good condition for its age. These are the measurements for the desk. height-41 1/4 inches. Depth 21 inches, width 35 inches. pull out 19.5 by 30 inches. Drawer#1 4 1/8 inches drawer#2 and#3 7 1/8 inches. The drawers are 30 inches wide and 16 inches deep. The hardware is in good condition as are the ... moreknobs. This is a local pick up only! That means you must drive to my home in Canyon, Texas to pick it up. Because of its size it can be used in a normal size home. Many pieces of furniture now are so large that older homes can not accommodate it. The three drawers can hold lots of paperwork and if you keep a messy desk, as a lot of people do, you can quickly conceal the mess when company drops in by simply rolling the top down.
