Stunning antique Victorian Renaissance revival writing desk. Made from Walnut with contrasting burl walnut panels at the front of the writing surface and across the raised back. Elaborate fretwork shaped legs and back. Lift top has been covered in red leather(newer? and has a mirror on the underside. Partitioned storage space painted turquoise. There is a molded shelf across the top of the piece. Supported by scrollwork and perfect for holding knick knacks, framed pictures or small books. No maker's marks. Piece dates from the mid-late 1800's. Overall. This desk is good condition. There is some damage to the interior mirror, mostly silver-loss as a result of age. The front right foot has had a piece broken off and it looks like there was once a finial on the stretcher that is missing as well. See pictures. Antique French Renaissance Revival Library Walnut Table Desk 1800's
This is a genuine solid walnut library table desk with a walnut veneer top. It was made between 1850-1899. And was used in the Druillard Library of Madison, Tn. I know the history of this library and of this desk because 4 generations of my family went to this school. This library was part of a private church school where you could start out in diapers in the nursery school building and continue through all of elementary, junior high,high school and 4 years of college in one school. The library was shared by all. It got the name Druillard from a lady whose name was Charlotte Druillard, who gave the money to the school for the library to built close to the turn of the last century-1900. She was the wife of the man who founded the famous Belmont College and University in Nashville. Both of my parents went to this school who met there and married. ... moreIn the mid 1970's the school thought the library building was too old and needed to be torn down. My father(who was very sentimental) purchased this table from the library. He immediately loaned it to the school alumni association to place in their entry way. It remained there until Oct.1985, when after my father's death, my mother asked for it back. She gave it to me for my home. I have used it as a desk in my home since 1985. It has been well taken care of and is in excellent condition. A quality made piece with two drawers across the front. Antique Renaissance Revival parlor table writing desk 1860
This unique parlor table is made of walnut and is in the Renaissance Revival style. It has some Neo Grec influence. The table is 42 inches wide. 24 inches deep and 29 inches tall. It has a brown felt top. There is a drawer in the front that comes out. It is made of dovetail construction. The table has decorative ornamentation along the sides and on the carriage underneath. This piece would have been used in a parlor as a table or possibly as a ladies desk. The piece dates circa 1860. The felt top may be a replacement as it likely originally had a leather top. The drawer is missing an escutcheon on the front. We have a key that can be used to open the drawer but it does not fit properly and will not lock the drawer.
