It has claw front feet and is in very good condition, however, it does have ... moresome light surface scratches and general wear that are typical of a piece that probably dates to the early 19th century, although I cannot be completly sure of its age. It has lovely carved accents and trim. The key is intact with it and the little side supports come out automatically when the front writing desk surface is lowered. Someone has unfortunately drilled a hole in the back that is about 2" in diameter. The desk has 4 drawers with all of the original knobs intact. It stands 41" tall at the trim at the back, 40" tall at the top, is 41" wide at the feet, 37" wide at the top, and is a total of 22" deep at the bottom, and 19" deep at the top.

This is most likely late 18th, early 19th century, but possibly Civil War era. These first started to appear in the last decades of the 18th Century. Mounted with precisely executed brass and bronze hardware and embellishments, the desk is mutually reserved and royal. Crafted almost entirely by hand, this is a stunning and highly complex work, using gorgeous mahogany veneers to cover all visible surfaces of the desk. The cylinder top has an interesting mechanism whereby the opening of the lower ... moredrawer opens the roll top. Once the cylinder top is opened. The desk lid is accessible, now easily opened to lay supported on the open drawer- this reveals an original tooled black and gilt leather writing surface, three small hand dovetailed drawers, a pen rest flanked by inkwell cubbies and a storage space inside. Resting over that are three larger drawers. Again each hand dovetailed with solid mahogany secondary woods, the bottom of each drawer chamfered along the sides to rabbet into the frame and nailed at the back with tiny nails. A curious inscription on the pine beneath the middle top drawer is a possible attribution to it's maker, an upside-down V with an S scrolled inside- the same inscription appears in very large proportions on the backboard as viewed by removing the top drawers and peering back into the antique french desk. The interior is inscrutable unfortunately. Much of it being locked up with the dust boards, roll top and lower drawer that is not removable. Each drawer is framed in brass tubular molding around the gilt bronze drawer hardware. The top is a piece of mottled red and cream marble. Antique Late 19th Century Walnut Secretary Desk Original Hardware England
This antique secretary in solid walnut and burled walnut veneers came to us from England c1880. It is in beautiful condition and boasts three adjustable shelves(spaced at 2 ½” apart) in the upper unit along with the original glass front doors. There is a key for the upper cabinet and it works in the lock. But the locking mechanism does not work(missing the catch) There are some surface scratches to the bottom of the upper cabinet and also to the writing surface. Solid brass teardrop knobs complete the drawers which vary in depth(top at 4 ¾” middle at 6 ½” and the bottom drawer at 8 ½” Drawer fronts are a burled walnut veneer in excellent condition. Overall height is 85 ½” and the bottom section is 36”w x 19 ¾”d with the pull down substantial writing surface at 35 ½”w x 23”d(there are narrow panels on either ... moreside of the lower unit that pull out and support the writing surface) There seems to be some very slight delamination of the burled walnut veneer on the pull down panel– this is not noticeable unless scrutinized up close and should probably be left as is(refer to photos) as it does not affect the integrity of the piece. There are some slots for mail and smaller drawers as well that have the original brass knobs. The upper section is 34 12”w x 9 ¾”d. It comes apart in two pieces for ease of transport. French Louis XVI Secrétaire à Abattant 19th Century. Carved Fruitwood w/ Marble Top Item# 120010TTT02 This gorgeous drop-lid carved fruitwood desk. Featuring a pierced brass gallery wrapping around shaped marble with turret corners over fluted fruitwood pillars with brass mounts. The drawer has original brass hardware with a strong lock in the middle, the keyhole a four-leaf clover lock guard, limiting the keys that can access the hole- this lock mechanism is mirrored on the drop-lid and on the pair of cabinet doors. The lid drops to reveal six small drawers and a few cubby-holes, all of the drawers hand dovetailed front and back, the bottoms bevelled to rabbet into the sides. The lower cabinet opens to reveal a locking box, key absent, the box somewhat destabalized due to a missing block on the right side. The back of the desk has a little plaque from"Fidelity 412 Appraisal Co" the construction revealed as pinned tenon-mortise of the oak frame, locking together the vertical oak boards as they chamfer along the edges to rabbet into that frame. Most attractive about this piece is the deep golden high glossed finish. Grasping the light and absolutely radiating. Still functional with a strong and sturdy drop-lid, resting over solid even feet and with a nice clean interior, this is a piece that is practical as well as beautiful. 19th Century Solid Mahogany Bench Made Partner's Desk W/Ornate Details Ball/Claw
A beautiful antique desk! This is a solid mahogany partner's desk that dates to the second half of the 19th Century. We do not know the maker or the region of origin. This piece is bench made and hand carved. The desk measures as follows: width = 50 1/8" depth = 27.75" height = 30 3/8" height to bottom edge at center of kneehole = 23" height to bottom edge of trim at kneehole = 22" The top of the desk has carved designs in all four corners. The edge has an ornate dental mold style trim all the way around. The secondary woods are also mahogany and the drawers have champhored bottoms and dove tails in the front and back. This piece was refinished some time in the early 20th century. There is an area on the top that is sun bleached on one of the ends as well as one of the legs. This same leg has a repair on it as ... morewell. Two of the legs have been repaired on this piece. They appear to be professional repairs. One of them has a very slight movement to it but the desk remains solid and sturdy. This is th eleg that has sun fade on it. The four legs have a beautiful carved design running vertically that ends just above the ball& claw foot. The knee hole has corner mounted pieces that are carved as well. Oak slant-top countinghouse or printer's desk. Late 19th century. Beautiful dark oak finish and wide grain to wood. Turned spindle legs. Rail and turned stiles on top. Two divided drawers with brass pulls. One drawer has a wooden escutcheon, but the other's is missing and damaged. Desk top does not lift. Including rail and stiles. Antique 19th Century Sea Captains Lap Desk - Writing Desk - Inlay - Escucheons
Here for bid is a 19th century folding lap travel desk. I was told that this size of box was often used by sea captains saving room in there tight state rooms. Maybe just a theory not sure. I would consider this box desk in pretty good condition for its age and compared to others I have seen. However as you can see in the provided photos it is not perfect and has wear. Nicks, cracks and chips that one would expect to see in this old of a piece. It needs inkwell replacement so forth and so on. I have no key for this desk but they are easily found. Some of the brass or copper inlay has been tacked a few small pieces missing. This type of scowling inlay is very hard to find for they took a lot of skill and work to make I am sure. 19th Century American Sea Captains Desk. With Ink Well Set This is a Magnificent RARE Ornate Captains Desk; it has the incredible workings of a master craftsmanship and is crowned with gold monogram crest at the top with the initials CVF. This is a two piece heavy desk set; the top portion of the desk features a turned brass spindle rail above in black and gold. There is a door on the left that opens to reveal the 16 map compartments and one larger shelf for documents. The inside of the door panel a detailed colorful painted scene of a lighthouse surrounded by rough sea with ships in the background. In brilliant gold, red, yellow, blue, white, pink, green colors with black low lights. There are also engraved borders and scrolls accenting the wood on top along with gold accents. The top center portion has a roll up compartment with six document ... moretrays. Two pull out trays above and below with knob handles. The tray below offers an antique elaborate carved wooden and metal ink well set with pen rests. There are brass nautical pulls in the shape of cleats on the left and right of the center. The Interior and compartments are painted sky blue; there are two tower columns on each side of desk with gold paint inlays geometric designs, scroll work, foliage fleur-de-lis decorations throughout and hand painted floral design in yellow green, red and blue. The top right hand side offers a door that opens to four large compartments with a panel that is painted with a detailed colorful scene of beautiful sail ships at sea. The left and right side of the desk feature two gold frame panels one on each side with lovely floral scenes in vivid colors. There are two smaller top drawers that have ornate brass swing handles and key hole. These desks are supposedly rare and can be quite expensive. Unable to locate maker's marks. But it looks as though it could have been made by Edwards& Roberts, an English woodworking firm established in the 1840's and active throughout the 1850's as furniture and cabinet makers and retailers of fine furniture. 1stdibs has a similar desk listed at $6800. This is an older desk so it has some nicks, chips, and older repairs but is in good condition for being over 100 years old(it is likely from the 1850's, but I will leave dating of the piece to the purchaser as I am not an expert in this type of furniture) The cylinder works well, the desk surface pulls out easily, and the drawers work well. This robust period American desk has the most interesting campaign styled brass fold hardware on its three drawer lift top base. This is a desk very easily mistaken for a ship's desk and we do not entirely rule that out. Meanwhile we air to the conservative and call it a Southern United States Plantation desk. There is no question as to it Southern United States origins. It has a full ... moresecretary top with three crotched mahogany inset panels, fine crown molding, heavily carved interact ribbon moldings, a drop lid work surface with cubbies and document slots along with a second swinging door compartment that contains two drawers with inset campaign brasses and to file shelves. This is simply a fantastic desk and are proud to offer it. It is 50" long, 23 1/2" wide(deep) at its base, 32" tall to its work surface and 61" tall overall at the top of its secretary. It in a great old original finish and we are sorry but we took these pictures after giving it a preliminary cleaning. After the polish drys out the crotched mahogany panels on the desk's lid will really pop with it graining that is a bit subdued after it was polished. French Louis XVI Style Cylinder Top Writing Desk c. 19th Century Item# 130009GFL22 This is a gorgeous little treasure; crafted during the 19th Century. This French Louis XVI Style Ladies Writing Desk features a Cylinder Roll top that functions in conjunction with the opening of the single drawer. This effectively allows you to lock the desk and all contents with a single lock, because with the drawer being locked there is no access to the roll top; with the roll top being closed, the slant front is unable to open and the compartment beneath is sealed. The desk does not come with it's key, though these keys are often not difficult to come by. Retaining a warm cognac-mahogany tone throughout, a patina slowly developing under many layers of wax, the piece is delightful to look upon. The slant front drops to reveal a pink-red tone leather ... morewriting surface with gilt highlights, this likely a replacement. The back of this lifts to reveal a storage compartment. Three small hand dovetailed drawers with brass molding rest beneath a pair of inkwells flanking the concave pen channel. The embellishments are typical to the Louis XVI form, the rectangular reeded panels flanking the cylinder top and decorating each corner closely keeping with the angularity of the piece. The desk rests over turned, tapered and fluted legs that terminate in brass capped feet. A handsome piece in every regard. English Georgian Antique Schoolmasters Desk, Late 19th Century in Mahogany
English Mahogany Schoolmaster's Antique Desk w/ Slanted Leather Top Late 19th Century w/ Ebonized Reeded Legs in the George III Style Item# 130009FPX20 This is a just lovely English Antique Schoolmaster's desk. Crafted in the late 19th Century of solid mahogany, mahogany veneers and pine secondaries. The slanted top provides a fine writing surface, covered in a warm-khaki tone tooled leather; lifting over original brass hinges, the interior retains what is probably an original blue paper liner and reveals a large storage space. Every aspect of the top is crafted with dovetails, from the tiny inkwells to the joinery of the entire slant front portion of the desk. Two small hand dovetailed drawers retain their original stamped brass hardware, framed in ebonized stringer inlays and retaining the same light blue papered liner. The desk ... morerests over boldly reeded and ebonized legs that terminate simply in stumped toes. Simply gorgeous for anyone decorating their home and looking for a great form in the hallway or entry way. A highly unique side table for a living room or a small writing desk to actually use for work and storage, this is a wonderful selection. With a warm patina and mellowing of the mahogany surfaces, remaining in quite wonderful condition throughout, this is a piece you will cherish for a lifetime. It is possible the piece was originally crafted mostly during the early 19th Century and was re-fashioned slightly or at least restored during the late 19th Century- there is some curious work with the dowel restorations around the drawer blades. The lack of matching between the screw wells in the frame to the underside of the slant front desk(though we have not attempted to remove the slant front to truly examine this) As such, it should be assumed as a late 19th Century work of simply gorgeous form, but should not be collected as pure or without alteration. This is a beautiful and rare piece. It is a 19th century and I was told possibly 18th century French desk that was painted and gilded to be free standing as the design is also in the back. It has lovely lines and it is beautifully painted with flowers and medallions. The dimensions of this desk is 39 inches high x 24 inches wide and the depth is 16 inches. the interior is painted a reddish color. Antique 19th Century Schoolmaster's Desk
Pictured is a Schoolmaster's Desk from 1850-1870 according to the person I bought it from eight years ago. All the antique experts I had look at that piece agreed with the age estimate. As you can see from the pictures. It has been used and is a charming piece. It is made of mixed hardwoods. The top folds up and exposes little compartments and drawers. It also has a writing surface that pulls out. I don't have the keys to any of the drawers but it wouldn't be hard to find one or have one made. Dimensions are 41 inches tall, 41 inches wide and 22 inches deep. This piece works particularly well as a dedicated desk in which to keep household bills, greeting cards and address books.

Up for auction is this beautiful 19th century rose wood lap desk. This was purchased by myself at the Ivey sellkirk auction on dec. 8th featuring items from the Stan and Lillian Musial estate. It is in great condition and absolutely beautiful. It is 9.5 inches high and 14.5 inches wide. It features mother of pearl and abalone highlights. It also has a scrolling back rail over the recessed pen and ink tray and a lidded compartment over the sloping. Leather inset hinged writing surface. Also there is a slide out drawer to the right. It has a lock on the drawer but I do not have the key. It is not locked though and opens. This is one of my favorites. I almost dont want to sell it. I hope it finds a good home. This unique. Beautiful, solid oak business desk is a replica of the Ross Desk's design patented in 1883 and one of the first roll top designs made by Forest City Furniture Co. Rockford, IL. This piece has hand written penciled notes that are barely legible on the wood underneath the desk in the drawer space. It is pictured in the Gallery as photo#8 and there is a legible date of 6- 1888 above a list of other written words that are illegible on this photographed panel in the small square lightened section. It is visible through the use of a magnifying glass. There are two writing slats on each side above the drawer and cabinet side pedestals. Purchased this 19th Century Sugar Desk about 20 years ago. I was told that the sugar was put in top and the drawer was for utensils. The dovetails are gorgeous! The box and drawer are all dovetailed. The drawer has the original knob. The lock is sill in the drawer. The entire sugar desk originally had a red lining. But over time only the drawer has the red lining. A Sugar Desk, also known as a Traveling Sugar Desk, was taken with you when traveling since sugar was such a valuable item in the early 19th century.
