Drop Front Northwind Tiger Oak Secretary Desk Side by Side Bookcase
Crafted of solid quarter sawn oak about 1900. A side by side secretary desk and bookcase with a Northwind design. I think at one time someone messed with the bookcase section and changed it from a curved front to a straight front. Also the veneer on the drop front was replaced, and is coming loose, and then the original Northwind carving was put back on. The Northwind carvings seem to be intact without any damage, and the other parts of elsewhere are in good condition. I have the key that will work for the drawers and the drop front, but not for the bookcase door. It still is a rare Northwind piece. Stands about 6 feet. And is about 40" wide, and 13" deep. The drop front desk has a felt writing surface, cubbyhole with two drawers and letter slots. The two bottom doors have a brass grill over dowel framed pink fabric, with brass escutcheon and lock. Vintage Mahogany Breakfront & Secretary Desk Gilded gold Windows Hutch Bookcase
Constructed out of solid Mahogany from an unknown time and location. Originally purchased as a gift to my Grandmother from her Husband. My Grandfather, many, many years ago. This piece of furniture is in excellent condition and truly is a wonderful looking piece. A simple yet elegant design that easily coordinates well with many different décor styles. Display shelving is showcased by three beautiful glass front cabinets with their original curved glass windows and a gold gilding decorative trim. Glass is in excellent condition. No chips. Cracks or sections of gilding missing. There are a total of three shelves within the display window. Lower portion has pull-out secretary desk that has a working lock and key. Interior of desk area contains an inlaid leather desk pad with gilded(gold) detailing to writing area. Secretary area also holds ... moreone drawer and five shelves to organize your items within. Lower section contains 3 deep drawers which measure 28-1/2" across. 6-1/2" deep, 11" wide. Two side cabinets also containing three shelves each. Little to no signs of wear throughout this piece. There is one mark on the right sided cabinet. On the bottom, where it looks to be something bumped into it. It is located in an inconspicuous place and is not deep or attention catching, and most likely can be easily fixed with a touch-up wood stain. I have not attempted it. Grand American Empire Flamed Mahogany Secretary Desk with Bookcase Top c1850 Being presented for sale is this Grand American Empire Flamed Mahogany Secretary Desk with Bookcase Top and 2 working keys.This fine 19th century piece has its original wavy glass and original hardware with all the locks intact but one of the keys work the lock on the glass doors and one key works the lock on the large drawer at the base. The bookcase top offers three original adjustable shelves that each measure 37 1/2 inches wide by 9 3/4 inches deep and provide a beautiful way to display that book collection or special collectibles. The fold out writing surface has vintage replacement light brown felt and is in very nice condition. Georgian Mid 1800's English Secretary Desk& Bookcase. A late Georgian secretary desk and bookcase from the mid 1800's was hand crafted in England. Mahogany with an old finish this secretary is in very good condition with warm antique patina. The removable upper bookcase has grill work with wavy glass panes and shelves that adjust by sliding into grooves. The bookcase lock has a working key. Other keys are handles only, locks do not work. There have been numerous restorations over the years, plus losses, warps, dings and stains for character as shown. Brasses on this historic British furniture were replaced about a century ago. The drop front desk rests on pull out supports. Inside are two leather"book" compartments. Graduated drawers have hand dovetailed oak sides and chamfered bottoms. Oak Secretary Desk/Bookcase– American Late 1800’s– one of a kind. Refinished and restored by a professional company. Medium oak with original hardware. High quality detailed claw feet in front and carved design on front of drop down desk top. Carved design on the front of the canopy at the top of the desk. The mirrors are original and are beveled around the perimeter of each mirror. The mirror on the left was broken. But has been put back together, but shows the crack. There are three drawers below the drop down desk top which are functional and slide in and out easily. The bookcase on the left has four shelves which are adjustable plus the bottom is also a shelf. The curved glass on the front of the bookcase is cracked from stress when moving this piece of furniture. It can be replaced. See photos. Country Empire 1840 Antique Secretary Desk& Bookcase. If there is such a thing as Country Empire. This secretary desk and bookcase is it. Hand crafted of solid walnut about 1840, this clean lined desk is very pleasing. The finish is waxed and buffed. So an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth is all that is needed to maintain its warm patina. There are small mars at the edges for character, the flip open desk writing area has ink stains. Bookcase doors have old wavy glass and original brass and porcelain latches. Square cut nails are visible on this American made antique furniture. Said to be from Pennsylvania. Here is an terrific mid-late 19th century flame mahogany column step back secretary with fold out desk. Turned legs and glass door bookcase or storage& display cabinet above and three large functional bureau drawers below. I've detailed the restoration work this lovely piece will need to bring it back to it's former full value in my detailed description of condition above and in my multiple photographs included to accurately represent the design, quality, condition and construction as well as the overall beauty and potential of this marvelous old piece of mahogany furniture bargain priced as a restoration project. It has had a few small professional repairs to the veneer previously. This wonderful cabinet travels easily in two pieces and stands 68 1/2 inches tall by 42 1/2 inches wide and 20 inches deep front to back. The top ... morebookcase section measures 33 1/2 inches tall by 42 1/2 inches wide at the bonnet by 12 3/4 inches deep front to back. It has 12 panes of glass in it's upper cabinet doors and three small drawers run across the bottom within the top cabinet just below the two display shelves. The bottom bureau section measures 36 inches tall with a 35 inch tall flat surface height when the desk is closed and a 3/4 inch recessed space along the back for the upper bookcase to rest in. The base is 42 1/2 inches wide and 20 inches deep front to back and had three drawers. Inside the top bookcase the cabinet measures 25 1/2 inches wide by 8 1/2 inches deep and 28 inches tall. Divided by a shelf with 12 inches clarance below the shelf and 15 inches clearance above the shelf. Below the shelves but inside the cabinet doors are three small beautifully hand dovetailed drawers, 11 1/4 wide by 5 3/4 inch front to back by 2 3/4 inch deep with the center drawer of the three actually being only 11 inches wide. We are pleased to be offering today this true Victorian burl walnut secretary bookcase desk that dates from the Eastlake era of the 1870s to 1880s. This desk is truly Eastlake as it has the circular dove tail that was used for a short period of time and really pin points the date range of the desk. It came out of a pretty nice estate on the east coast. It appears to have been refinished years ago in a medium walnut stain finish. It has all the hardware intact. All the burl walnut panels are intact. The only thing we did was replace the felt on the pull out tray as the other one was stained. The desk comes with the original wavy glass on the bookcase glass doors top. Three adjustable shelves that appear to be true original shelves, the doors have burl panels on all four sides with ... morerosette covers and even comes with a key. It has a crown molded top, beautiful burl walnut center and the pull tray. The base cabinet sports three graduated drawers with the circular round Eastlake dove tail and carved columns coming down both sides and lots of burl walnut. The overall size is 40 inches at the widest point, 23 inches deep, 31 inches high to the writing surface and 87 inches high overall. One thing I would like to add is that these desks usually have white wood sides or non walnut sides, but this one is truly all walnut as you can see in the numerous pictures. The original backboards are all in place. The desk is a nice original desk. The more I look at it, it appears like they just put a clear coat of shellac on it to brighten it up back years ago. This is a really well built secretary desk/bookcase. Nice heavy oak. Sawtooth shelf brackets. Knapp dovetailing in the drawers dates the piece between 1870 and 1900. The smaller mirror is bevelled. The pulls are all a nice heavy brass. The condition is excellent. The cabinet is 81 inches tall. 55 inches wide and 17 inches deep. There are six skeleton locks. But no key. The cabinet on the upper left has a mirror on the back wall. There are two oak shelves that can be adjusted with the sawtooth oak bracket(see photo) It is 27 inches wide 45 inches tall and 9.5 inches deep. The two drawers on the lower left are 8 inches tall. 27 inches wide and 9 inches deep. The drop front desk lid is 18 inches tall and 23 inches wide. Inside the desk ar cubby hole and a small drawer. During the late Georgian period. The mahogany, which is protected by a fine coat of hand-rubbed wax, displays a rich complexion and a striking grain that are sure to complement any setting. Solid brass swan ... moreneck pulls, which were popular during the Georgian period, adorn the drawer fronts, while dental moulding and individually paned glass grace the bookcase section. The fretwork on the glass is unusual and attractive. In total, this bureau contains four main drawers, three fully adjustable shelves, ten interior(desk) shelves, one interior(desk) cabinet, and four desk cubbyholes. The desk itself features a wonderful writing surface of brown leather with gold tooling. The bookcase section secures to the bureau with four screws. When open the desk section measures 38″ wide x 21.5″ deep and is 31″ from the floor. In the bookcase section the shelves have a depth of 9.75″ In general this antique bureau bookcase is quite sturdy and remains in very good condition. Inside the fall. The leather is split at the hinge. The fall itself has a key which works the lock but the lock does not engage and therefore the fall doesn’t lock. We feel the fall was replaced at some point in the piece’s life. There is a small spot of damage on the cornice at the very back left corner. Solid walnut is deeply carved with fluted columns. The lustrous finish is in excellent condition on this American made antique furniture. The drop front has a saddle leather writing surface. Inside are curly birdseye maple drawer fronts and cubicles. The separate bookcase has an arched crown, shelves adjust on wooden supports. Victorian Eastlake 1840 Cylinder Roll Top Secretary Desk, Bookcase Top
Trying to get someone to help move this away from the wall so that I can take pictures of the back. There is the stagecoach information where this traveled from the east coast to the west coast. I believe it says in 1864. Its been a few decades since I saw it back there. The skeleton key locks the cabinet. No one walks in my door without commenting on it.
