The sloped writing desk still contains the original wood pen holder(7 1/2" long, 2" wide and 3/4" tall) and the glass powder jar with cover(1" tall and 1 1/2" wide) There are bits of wood veneer missing on the top and corners. There is some staining. And a few minor rips to the black and blue velvet on the inside. There is scuffing and scratching on the bottom. An amazing. Substantial piece weighing twenty-eight pounds. Up for sale is an antique Secretary Desk with drawers from the 1800's. Heavy. Solid piece of wood furniture. Needs to be refinished and have handles tightened. Antique Lift-top Table Desk, 1800’s, Dovetail-Constructed, Hand Wrought Nails
Antique Lift-Top Desk on legs. A wonderful early 1800’s piece with 2 drawers. Dovetail construction and hand wrought nails. Shows age and wear from use over many years, creating a great warm look and feel. This has been cared for over its life. Including minor repairs and new layers of stain. The original lock is gone, but the keyhole remains on the lid. The drawer pulls are replacements, but were probably replaced 50-100 years ago. There are some replacement nails in the drawers, but look to be very old as well. The left drawer had a lock originally and all the wood openings were filled when repairs were done. I’d guess that the whole thing was fixed up at one point, including filling in any holes in the wood from old hardware, repairing wood in general, refinishing. A great solid piece of furniture. I made two drawers for the inside if you would like to have them at no cost. Locks do work on generic single key. No key provided but easy to acquire. Folding support braces that support writing lid are missing. Easy to find and replace if desired. I always used top desk drawer as support.

This is a diamond in the rough. Yes it needs loving care and restoration. We know it was a great. Great grandmothers desk, but not sure if she brought it from England or not. It has a secret drawer. Little compartments, and a little cover for small treasures. inkwell glass bottle(1) Some keys, some waxed string for whatever we don't know. It has brass corner plates, and a plate on the top which we believe are the initials. H A M. there is what appears to be one pen which you would put a tip in, and a pencil. THERE IS ALSO some original sealing wax. they kind you melt and stamp. The felt is in bad shape, and the felt that connected the little table hinge is worn off. It weighs 14.9 pounds. measures in the box form 10 X 17 3/4 X 7 1/4" tall. and opened up it is 21" long, and slants for easy writing. It needs someone who can appreciate ... morehow old it is. A treasure from long ago. I am not asking lots of money because it does need some redoing. I took pictures of all angles so you can see it is missing a bit of wood on one corner. The lock it gone. I bought this from a very old estate in Vermont. Mostly 19c and older furniture and items. The lap desk is described as a Ship Captains lap desk or folding travel desk. It is made of Rosewood with Brass strapsand corners. It is in remarkable condition. There is a secret compartment where the vertical panel below the script pens and ink is released by lifting up the left hand divider where there is a spring clip under the wood. The panel springs out to reveal three drawers. One drawer is missing the tiny knob. It measures 20"inches by 10"inches and 7"inches tall. Dark blue velvet on the writing service. There. All of the wood is in great shape, but it is missing a part of one band that goes over the top(see pictures) The wood is rich and beautiful and this inside contains a tray, a liftable desk top, and overall is lined with red felt. 1800's Captains- Davenport Desk. Rare inlay details. While the desk has a few chips. Inlay pieces missing, etc. it is extremely solid and has an exceptional historical appearance. Fine drawer dovetail detail. Original white stone wheels in good condition. Original leather top remains is secure. Appears all original except the inside bottom of one drawer and one knob on one of the false side drawer faces. All drawers have lock mechanism. Note desk lock face has been repaired. SchoolMasters Desk, Slant-Topped, mid-1800's, Primative Style
Primitive slant-topped schoolmasters desk This marvelously proportioned. Primitive slant-topped schoolmasters desk, probably dating from the mid-1800s, was purchased at an antique shop in Birmingham, Ala. in the early 1970's and later brought to St. Louis, Mo. The construction is all pine. Height: 39 1/2" Width: 36" Depth: 30 3'4" Hinged. Slant top has slight overhang on the front to provide finger grip. Desk displays a marvelous dovetailed construction on all sides, and the Hepplewhite style legs are carefully pegged, so there is no space between the different pieces of wood. The interior offers a small, centered drawer and three"cubby holes" above the drawer. Metal lock on front is probably original. Lock does not have a key. This piece of furniture is a tribute to the workmanship and sense of proportion ... moreof the joiner who crafted it. The legs are not too fat or too thin. too long or too short. Their elegant taper serves to elevate the body of the piece. The skirt boards contribute to the pleasing mass of the desk itself. A mass emphasized by the well-proportioned legs. It sits solidly on the floor, projecting dignity and character. It symbolizes a more balanced and simpler time in the history of our country, as do so many primitive pieces of furniture. The hinge on the left side on the lift-top is loose. So closing the lid into the locking mechanism must be carefully done. There is a replacement piece of wood on the lid where that hinge is secured. On the right hinge, another piece of wood was cut out where the hinge is screwed into the desk. It was replaced and the hinge was screwed into that. Wear on the piece is typical of the age of the desk. The legs are sturdy and straight. For local pickup only.

This is a ca.1800 Georgian Mahogany Campaign Lap Desk. It has a full length dovetailed drawer with a brass locking rod. All of the brass hardware is original. The brass lock has a working key. It is 16"x 9.25"x 6"high and weighs 7 lbs. When open it is 19" long. There is a repaired hairline crack in the lid. The writing surface is dark green felt. ca. 1800 Trans. Secretary Scottish Glass Hutch w/ Pull-Out Fold-Out English Desk
Being offered from estate of an avid antiques collector. Who traveled with internationally esteemed collectors and received items or advice from them, is this impressive secretary with glass hutch. In overall excellent condition, with some issues to note below. The transitional style is a result of two parts placed together, separate origin from Scotland pre-chippendale ca. 1800 era + the Georgian English desk portion. Measures 93" high x 45-1/4" wide x 23" deep overall. The hutch itself is 47" high x 43" wide x 13" deep. See photos zoomed for details and verify condition. The issues to note are: thin. Antique glass is intact but three panes have minor cracks in corners; the desk area's leather surface was removed. Is gone; the brass handles appear replacements. Not original(top 2 have loose hoops) there ... moreare no keys if intended to have them. The back panels appear to be the same wood as seen from the front. The finish is excellent. No obvious signs of damage or abuse. Note the"chippendale" style cornice on top. Officially for local pickup here in Florida. SMALL EARLY 1800'S LONDON ENGLAND MODAN & CO. MAHOGANY TABLETOP WRITERS DESK
Please see all of the photographs and read the complete description. Both the images and text are considered a full disclosure of condition. This writing desk came from a Massachusetts collection and is attributed to Modan and Company in London. England, in the early 1800's. It was created out of mahogany with mahogany secondary wood. The desk has the original cut crystal inkwells. In the center of the desk surface is a mother of pearl inset marked HNH to J.P.D. The key for the lower locking drawer is present and working. The separate key used for the upper document file has long since gone missing. It measures 14 3/4" wide x 12 1/4" deep x 10 7/8" high. The desk rests on four small bun feet, and the entire piece weighs 15.8 pounds. CONDTION: The desk is in remarkable condition considering it is perhaps over 180 years old. ... moreIt does have some use marks and tiny bumps and bruises as would be expected. It appears to have had some minor repairs over the years. Specifically to the hinges of the lift top covering the upper document storage area. Please note in photograph# 7 the left facing hinge has six screws{two of which are smaller than the others} This has resulted in the hinge being loose, as the two small screws move about in the larger holes of the hinge hardware. The lift top is still perfectly serviceable as it is, and the looseness of the hinge can easily be rectified by replacing the two screws with new brass screws. The right facing hinge{photograph# 8} has provision for only four screws because it is smaller in size than the original and the cut out to recess the hinge into the wood is larger. The lower drawer sides where they attach to the drawer front may have been repaired at some point. The cut crystal inkwells are in relatively good shape although there are some chips at the bases. This is an exquisite antique handcrafted schoolmaster desk. It is in excellent condition and as you can tell from the pictures has a vibrant walnut finish. We believe this to be a hardwood such as walnut or birch. Not entirely sure. There are no markings on this piece, but any knowledgeable professional dealing with antiques will tell you that not all antique furniture needs to have markings on it to make it special. This lovely antique writing desk/lap desk opens to a good size piece with 2 writing flaps that lift to expose storage underneath. The velveteen like material looks original with some staining and soil. The hinges are nicely folding open and closing the desk this is a wedge writing box if you look at the side photo you can see the wedge shape so it unfolds on a slant. There is a small brass placque on the top which has not been monogrammed. This is an interesting piece measuring approx. 14" long x 9" x 4" high in the CLOSED position. 1800's Antique Wood Wooden Portable Folding Travel Lap Writing Desk Box w/ Key
ANTIQUE WRITING DESK– NO RESERVE Acquired at an estate sale in Virginia is this antique wood folding lap writing desk. Unknown type of wood- does have a cedar smell on the inside. Inside in many areas written in pencil is dated information from the 1800’s. Some of the writing with signatures is faded and difficult to read. Some the years can be read are“June 1894” 465 letters” March 15& 16 1895” March( 17, 1877” and“July( 18, 1875” There is no structural damage to the box. There are no apparent breaks or repairs. Hinges are securely in place. Closed the desk measures 3 ¾ inches tall. 11 ¼ inches long and 7 ¾ inches wide. Open the desk measures 15-3/4 inches long. 11-1/4 inches wide and 1-1/4 inches to 2-1/2 inches tall(slopes up) Writing area has ink stains and is loose in one area– see photos. Glass inkwell without cap ... moreis included. Two pencils are also included. When the desk is closed the top has some marks/stains– I have not tried to clean these marks/stains. Key is included; unknown if this is the actual or original key. The key does work but at times it is difficult to unlock– I would not recommend locking the desk. This is a antique school bench for a desk. It has ornate cast iron on both sides and is marked JM Sauders#2 Pat dec 1850. The bench is 30" high x 12" wide( bench seat) x 23.5" long. Antique American Cherry Hepplewhite Slant Front Desk. Pennsylvania, Ca. 1800 Probably central Pennsylvania. Circa 1800. The form consisting of a hardwood case resting on flared French bracket feet with four drawers(each having a lip moulded edge. Recessed brass escutcheon and wooden knobs) The verticals with an inlaid large panel of ebonized wood. The interior fitted with with a typical arrangement of pigeonholes and six drawers(three on either side) Each area separated by a strip of tiger maple veneer. A central prospect door opens to reveal an internal storage area. The wooden knobs on the drawers to the best of our knowledge are original. The interior of the drawers have a old yellow lacquered finish. Probably done over 100 years ago. MEASUREMENTS: 42-1/2" x 21-1/2" x 46-1/4" high. CONDITION: Wear consistent with age. 1800's Primitive Wood Ship Captains WRITING LAP DESK for restoration or parts
Offered for sale is this early to mid 1800's wood lap writing desk for restoration in poor overall condition. It has a real primitive look to it and would be a great piece if restored. I purchased it at a Maritime Nautical auction in the Finger Lakes Region of New York State. The desk does have much wear and tear. And is missing some of its hardware. The lock and handles are missing and there is a loose board that needs to be re-glued under the small compartments. There is wear on the felt surface and the edges of the wood. It is a little unusual in the sense that it has a"lift top" panel that comes off as the pictures show. The box measures about 17" long by 10 1/2" deep by 7" tall. The desk has a great old antique look to it and could be a really fine looking desk with a little work. UNUSUAL rare Antique Oak Portable ROLL TOP Desk File Box with Drawer 1800"s
This is so cool. Beautiful oak file box. It is marked with what looks like a K in a circle and reads Office Equipment. It has a smooth moving roll top. And a small drawer below. I got this at an estate sale and it had calligraphy ink and pens inside. There are ink stains. But wow, this is so neat it's a file cabinet box, and I'm not sure of its original use. Dove tailed edges, and 2 small metal handles, one for the roll top and the other for the drawer. Other than staining, this is in excellent condition. Beautiful tight grain oak. This measures 10.25" long, it is almost 6'5" wide and it's height starts at just over 3" in the front, rising to just under 4" at the back. Really an unusual piece. I have never seen another like this. I am guessing this is from the late 1800"s Thanks for looking.
