The vase is handpainted only on one side as it was intended to sit on a mantel. It is 8 1/2" high to tip of boys' hat. And is it 5 3/4" long. The vase is about 3 1/2" deep. The vase is a sheath of wheat with a vine across the top. The young boy is beautifully painted with typical German clothing. And such detail on the pants. Note the knee socks.beautiful face. Antique Pair Meissen German Porcelain Vase Urn Handpainted Flowers Dresden
This is a lovely pair of Meissen porcelain handled vases. They are white with handpainted colorful bouquets on either side. There was gold gilt as well however most of it is worn away. One vase has no chips or repairs however the other has one handle broken and one side of the bottom base has been repainted on the flat part. Only one side. Both are first quality with no scratch marks and measure 8 1/4 inches high by 5 1/4 inches wide. Beautiful for the collector! Marked on the bottom"Germany 438" and the double line crosses in blue that indicate this as a Coburg Dresden piece. Size is 9 inches at the widest point by 6 5/8 inches at the tallest point. In great condition. No crazing, no cracks, a couple of small chips on the flower and leaf tips, normal for these delicate pieces. Colors are great. Some wear to the gold trim along the upper rim. The Vase was made at the Rudolstadt Works in Thuringia. Germany between 1895 and 1924 and it has the appropriate Blue Stamped“RW” Crown and Shield Mark on its Bottom for this time period. The Vase stands 11½ inches high and measures a little over 5¼ inches in diameter. There is a short, inch long Hairline that extends down from the Rim and there are several dark spots on its Side, near its Bottom, that appear to have bled through the Blush Ivory Finish; otherwise, the Vase is in Very Good Condition, without any other cracks, chips, scratches of repairs. The Spill vase was designed to be placed on the mantel shelf to hold spills used to take a light from the fire before the days of matches. We take matches for granted but in the old days of 1850's there were no matches. Instead they used splints. Tapers or spills to light fires in the hearth. A spill is a twist of paper. Sliver of wood, or spiral of wood shaving. hence"Spill Vase" MAKER; On the bottom. At the edge of the outside rim is an incised cursive"H" Mark, most probably German. The delicate flowers are in the intricate Continental style with scrolled footed base and it is hand-painted and detailed. I have been told it could be attributed to Sitzendorf or Theodore Heubert. Fresh.Just In! Up for you consideratio n: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Up for Auction is an old German Vase by Carl Tielsch. It was made in the 1840's. Height: 10 1/4" high. Weight: 1.87 lbs unboxed. Picture of German Roses on front and back. One reason for the success of Carl Tielsch straight from the beginning was that he had a very large product range. Starting with normal household pieces, going over hotel porcelain and ending with luxury goods. In addition, the facility always had the best designers and decorators. At first, Tielsch only marked his products with the initials'TPM' which ... morestood for'Tielsch Porzellan-Manufaktur' which was quite similar to the'KPM' from the'Königlich Preußische Porzellanmanufaktur' But KPM found it was too similar and so the two snakes curling around a stave were added. Only to be replaced completely by the eagle from 1847 onwards. Note: The staff is of course a caduceus. In classical mythology this was the staff carried by Hermes as messanger of the gods; in more recent times it has become an emblem of the medical profession. Thanks to Jonn Bavis for the info. The first eagle mark was similar to the mark used by the'Porzellanmanufaktur F.A. Schumann' A firm located in Berlin-Moabit since 1836. Tielsch was very fond of their products and copied their style for some time. But the'eagle' also caused problems. The director of the KPM facility sent a complaint to the ministry of finance. Which resulted in an idea from Tielsch to change the mark again in 1850. He chose a dove with a twig in its beak seeming to'crash dive' Of course. It could still be mistaken for the'KPM eagle' but for the ministers it was different enough to please them and further complaints from KPM B

The front portrait is hand painted with a lovely Art Nouveau maiden. The portrait is framed within Nouveau period scroll work of white enamel and is artist signed"H. Wicharz" The body of the vase is hand painted with landscape scene and floating florals. The vase is marked on the base with design numbers and has a half impressed Franz Anton Mehlem oval mark. Which pre-dates the more familiar Royal Bonn, Germany marks. c. 1870-1920. The vase is in wonderful condition, no chips or cracks. There is no age crazing. It was purchased as an antique back in the 1960s by a Stanford University alumni for its decorative university colors! It measures 7.5" tall x 15" diameter at its widest point. It is in very good condition having been used very infrequently, having been displayed in a glass display cabinet primarily. On the bottom is stamped: Made in Germany in gold letters, with 77/2 marked in the porcelain.
