Rare Large Collector Flambe Red oxblood Paul Milet Sevres Vase ormolu 1890 7 1/2
Rare Large Collector Antique Flambe Red oxblood Paul Milet Sevres Vase ormolu 1890 7 1/2" Selected Antiques from Paris to your Door A rare quite large sized 7 1/2" red flambé. Sang de boeuf(oxblood) or flambé de Chine(1885: read further) enameled vase made in Sèvres by Paul Milet(1870-1950) around 1895, with beautiful Art Nouveau ormolu mounts in fine collector condition. The mounts are a work of art for themselves with leaves. Roses and garlands of roses merging with quite classical greek shapes, spirals and urns, stacked bands of shining and matt gold. Milet's works use often gilt metal mounts before WW1. These one belong to the best I have ever seen. Metal. Then chromed, was still a little used by Milets until the 1930s and disappeared afterwards. Gilding quite perfectly conserved. A little rubbed on the upper ... moreside of the top rim with a few discrete use marks. Otherwise wonderful. A 1 cm long rough area on the glaze on the neck, under the gilt rim(see next to last picture) Some tiny scratches to the glaze and two extremely thin vertical hairs. Quite difficult to see: one is located on the last picture among some tiny scratches(and a lot of light reflections) No chip or damage. Great colors: vertical red flambé on the body. More mottled on the neck above the mid-ring. Very early rare Paul Milet handwritten green mark with"Sèvres" under double L and lis flower. This mark has been authenticated by Mrs Florence Slitine. Curator at the Sèvres National Museum, author of several books. This early mark was used by the young Paul Milet as his father. Optat(1838-1911) was still alive, until he used among others the"MP Sèvres" mark around 1900— at the time he got a gold medal at the Exposition Universelle in Paris. It was later(1930) changed into"PM Sèvres" The vases and decoratives objects(boxes) made by Paul Milet during this Art Nouveau era can be considered as a transition between the famous(but too neglected) works of his father.
