Antique Parian Ware vase is 8 1/2 inches tall. Vignette of a bird perched on a hoop that is hanging from a grapevine. Bird is framed in an oval in relief with leaves. Grape clusters. Vines, leaves and hand made tendrils are at each side. Design work is on both sides. The top rim is scalloped. Fine hand work on a beautiful porcelain bisque.

Extremely rare Bennington Pottery Victoria and Albert design. Ca. 1850-1858 The design originally included portrait medallions. Before the Civil War Southern and Northern sentiments clashed over England's trade policies. Because of this existing portraits on the vases were covered with applied grapes. This is demonstrated in picture 9. I have taken pictures of all sides of the vase which show some cracks in part of the grape leaves. The top of the vase is damaged with chips out of the edges. A rabbit and a bird with nest. It came out of an estate collection. The previous owner had it labeled as"Bennington Parian" I have not been able to independently verify the Bennington attribution but it may well be correct. The vase measures about 8 7/8" tall and about 4 1/2" maximum width. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or damage. There are a couple partial color skips to pinkish color on interior, done in the making. There are some tiny dark specks in the parian, also in the making. NOTE THE 2 RINGS ON HER FINGERS. AN ORNATE CUFF OF THE DRESS SHE WORE. AND LOOK AT THE DETAIL ON THE PINEAPPLE. PHOTOS HAVE BEEN TAKEN OF ALL ANGLES AND SIDES OF THE PIECE. THE CHARACTERISTIC PARIAN WARE FINISH ON THE EXTERIOR. AND A HIGHER GLAZE ON THE INSIDE OF THE VASE. NOTE THE REGISTRY MARK ON THE BASE. AS NEAR AS I CAN READ IT. AT THE TOP IS"I V" RIGHT SIDE X. THE BOTTOM LOOKS LIKE THE LETTER"D" AND THE LEFT SIDE IS"I" IN THE CENTER IS THE LETTER"R" FOR REGISTERED. BUT SOMETHING ELSE AS WELL. STANDS 8& 1/2" TALL. Aesthetic Movement Parian Ware Spill Vase Robinson& Leadbeater Bisque Porcelain 19th c 1885 This is an antique 19th century spill holder/vase made by Robinson and Leadbeater of Stoke-on-Trent. The piece is made of“Parian” Which was a type of bisque porcelain that Robinson and Leadbeater specialized in and was one of the largest producers of. The piece is made in the naturalistic style of the Aesthetic Movement, popular in Europe primarily during the last half of the 19th century. The bowl is shaped and embossed with shell-like features and decorated with a seaweed or coral motif at the bottom of the bowl. It sits on a triform leg support that looks like three bamboo shafts tied together. Each leg has an opening that can accommodate longer pieces of“spill” spill was usually thin pieces of wood or rolled paper that would be used to transfer ... morefire from the fireplace to light candles, lamps or even cigars. A spill vase like this would have been kept on the fireplace mantle for easy access. The style of this vase was obviously influenced by Japanese design, which was drawn upon by Aesthetic Movement designers due to its emphasis on nature as art. This spill vase measures 6 3/4” in height and 5” across the bottom of its legs. It weighs 14.4 oz. It is in very good condition with the exception of a firing fissure visible at one of the feet(see close-up photo) that is demonstrating a bit of iron content discoloration. Natural, and I believe original to the making of the piece. One of the feet is impressed with“R&L” within an oval, the mark used by Robinson and Leadbeater. A similar example can be seen online in a Google book copy of an 1885 catalog that is part of the collection of the Library of the Winterthur Museum in Delaware. This is an interesting piece of Parian Ware.
