Neolithic China Xia Dynasty Handcrafted Clay Earthenware Tripod Vase Jar 2000BC
TRANSLATE Arabic Chinese French German Greek Indonesian Italian Hindi Japanese Korean Swedish Portuguese Russian Spanish Well Preserved Genuine Ancient Primitive Neolithic Three-Legged Earthenware Vase/Jar BC2000. CLASSIFICATION: Neolithic Three-Legged Earthenware Jar. Possibly an 18th or 19th Century Revival Imitative. ATTRIBUTION: Pre-Dynastic Ancient China. About 2,000 B.C. SIZE/MEASUREMENTS: Height: 132 millimeters(5 1/4 inches) Diameter: 100 millimeters(4 inches) at top lip; 98 millimeters(3 7/8 inches) at base. CONDITION: Very good. Entirely intact except for the assorted bumps. Bruises, scratches, and potting blemishes consistent with primitive hand construction and wear due to ancient usage and then burial since ancient times. DETAIL: A splendid. Well preserved three-legged(tripod) black clay earthenware jar(censer) from the late ... morethird or early second millennium B.C. Although this style of jar is very characteristic of and strongly identified with this era of ancient China, they are still fairly rare– especially intact specimens such as this one. Though it may be referred to at its simplest as a legged“pot” it is quite likely that it was intended as a censer. This type of vessel was generally used for smoldering twigs of aromatic woods, a primitive form of“incense” They were oftentimes funerary items, entombed(presumably still emitting fragrant plumes of aromatic smoke) with the deceased. What’s really remarkable is that it is without significant blemish– no chips. No cracks. Keep in mind the fact that these jars are generally not recovered intact, typically they are found shattered into fragments(shards) Comparatively this is in extraordinary condition! There are the assorted insignificant blemishes from ancient use– the typical blemishes one would expect to find of a household artifact which was used in ancient times and then buried. And there are the normal blemishes(warts and dimples, zits and pits) one expects with earthenware crudely fashioned by hand. Although it is probable t
Large, Antique F A Mehlam, Royal Bonn Earthenware Two Handled Vase 1900 Germany
Beautiful. Large, Royal Bonn vase. Floral decoration with silver and green embellishments. Stands 14 1/2 inches high and is 24 inches in diameter around the widest part. Shows it's age but has no chips, cracks and very little crazing. It is absolutely gorgeous and the pictures certainly don't do it any justice. Royal Bonn is the nineteenth-and twentieth-century trade name used by Franz Anton Mehlem. Who had a pottery in Bonn, Germany, from 1836 to 1931. Porcelain and earthenware were made. Royal Bonn used a monogram-and-tower mark that appeared on exported pottery only with Germany added. The factory was purchased by Villeroy& Boch in 1921 and closed in 1931. Many marks were used. Most including the name Bonn. The initials FM. And a crown.
Older Red Earthenware Pottery Amphora Vase Sancai Splash Glaze Chinese Italian
This listing is for a 12 1/4" tall. Handled pottery vessel. The body is dark red-brown clay. The lower half has unglazed white slip. The upper half has alternating amber and green splashes over white slip, and under clear glaze. The pot must have been upside down during the second firing, because the splashes drip up. Most Chinese Sancai has a light color body- though some doesn't. I know that both Italian and Islamic potters emulated Chinese Sancai. I am unsure as to the age and maker, though it is quite old. The clay is dark, and quite heavy for it's size, so I know that it is not from the Americas. Overall the vessel is in very good condition with a few small chips and flakes here and there, and no repairs. The handles are free of damage. Email with any questions, and check out our other antique pottery listings!
Antique Islamic Pottery Ceramic Middle Eastern Earthenware Morrocan Souk vase
Antique Islamic Pottery Ceramic Middle Easter Earthenware Morrocan Souk vase ~ This art pottery vase or loop-handled pot measures about 12 inches tall and 4 ½ inches in diameter at base and is 20 inches around at its widest point. Weighs more than 2 pounds. I am not an expert but I think this piece is in the style of that made in region of Safi in Morocco. It looks to be hand-turned. Beautifully hand painted and illustrated with various people figures wearing Middle Eastern garb. The glaze is a reddish brown color with 4 loop handles that originally could have been used for hanging to use for bathing. Not sure of age but this piece is old. It is not signed- the bottom looks as though it may been mounted or some sort of excess of white clay with minor chip or two on bottom. Please LOOK at ALL Photos. There are some minor scuffs and this ... morepiece is old and dusty- has some very light white oxidation marks on one side toward bottom edge. There is no other damage- it is not cracked or chipped. Very nice solid vase. Aftaba Moroccan souk water vessel. Below is information found online- which I think is what this piece is. If you know any information about this piece- please do share and kindly send a message. Thank you~ Morocco’s souks are filled with colorful treasures. Among them, a wide variety of pottery. Vases and pots, decorated with colorful etchings, sit for sale alongside tagines, the conical-shaped cooking pots typical of Moroccan cuisine. Three cities—Fez, Meknes and, especially, Safi, are the main pottery centers of the country, producing about 80 percent of Morocco’s pottery. In these cities, sun-baked clay twirls on wheels, forming into practical and attractive shapes. Designs etched into the wet clay set as the pottery dries in the sun. Artisans fire pieces in kilns and decorate them with colorful glazes, making them water-resistant. Most Moroccan pottery design is heavily influenced by Islamic or Berber art. Intricate geometric and arabesque patterns tend to cover the entire surface of pieces, com
