This grandiose and beautiful lidded portrait urn is from workshop of Franz Anton Mehlem of Bonn, Germany, circa 1870. This is a wonderful and richly coloured Pompadour rose pink vase embellished with elaborate ornamentation in the classical manner of the mid 1800's. Using magnificent bands of exquisite polychrome hand-painted decoration. Possessing delicate floral encrusted and gilt handles. The body of this urn features a portrait MASTERPIECE of Marie Antoinette, Queen of France, exquisitely painted in fine detail and set in a gilded cartouche which has been signed by the artist(P. Juhmer) At the back, a flourish of gilded flowers and musical instruments in heavy impasto gilt are sensationally ... moredisplayed. Four miniature gilt florets frame each side of the body, both front and back. In the second photo one of these florets appears as a smudge but it is indeed a perfectly painted miniature flower in gold- so difficult to photograph this highly reflective vase: White and gold hand-painted acanthus leaves in high relief are featured on the base. Beautiful Antique Royal Bonn Germany Gondola Centerpiece Bowl measuring 17 inches wide by 7 1/2 inches.tall and 6 1/2 inches deep. This bowl is hand painted and remains brightly colored in cobalt blue and dusty greens. The cupid cherubim dance fancifully in the garden on one side and on the other side the cupids fly. Their musical instruments are pictured on the"corners" of the bowl. This is in fabulous condition for age. I believe this to be from the latter part of the 19th century. With one expert placing it ca. 1970. There is slight wear to the gilt trim and one chip at top side, as shown in picture#9. Any other white marks in pictures are reflected light. Here is a very beautiful antique Royal Bonn vase which dates to approximately late 1800s. It measures approximately 4 inches tall x 4 inches wide. With a diameter of 1 1/2 inches on the footed base, and a 1/4 inch opening at the opening on the top. The background is gold with shades of dark green, with a lovely floral pattern. This vase boasts a nice shiny glaze. There are no breaks or cracks. A couple small spots of chipped paint, both are less than 1/8th of an inch. It is a footed vase with gold trim on the base. There is also gold trim at the rim. When looking at this in person the quality and exquisiteness of this vase jumps out at the viewer. It's a lovely antique piece. This antique vase is just gorgeous. It is German. From the maker Franz Anton Mehlem, who,was from Bonn Germany. This maker produced beautiful fine china from 1836- 1931. The official,stamp of this maker from 1890 through 1920 is a crown with the initials F M underneath in capital script lettering.see photos) That is the mark on this particular vase. It has a cream colored background with designs on both sides in a soft green. The scene portrays a green foliage and a woman with a partially exposed bare breast. On each side of her is a cherub in flight. She is wearing a Grecian style gown. On the opposite side is a lovely out door scene which looks to be a knoll or Meadow. There is a tree, grassy foreground, a small body of water, and a calm sky above. The piece is in very good condition, considering its age, it's excellent. There are no ... morechips or cracks, or paint loss at all. Under a magnifying glass"only" there is some light crazing; this of course is a product of its age. Honestly, the vase really looks great. The size and shape of this vase is not rare, but, this particular pattern obviously is. I have scraped and scoured, and have yet to find another like it. This vase stands 7 in high, the top of it measures 1 and a 1/4 in and is done in thick gold. It is 12 and a 1/4 in all the way around the middle. I consider this piece to be special. The main flower looks like an Iris to me. Vases are 9" tall with 3" opening and have tiny double handles. Both have t he signature hallmark on the bottom which features a crown. Notes on condition: looks like some of the gold rims have worn off on both vases and one vase has a noticeable paint chip(see closeup) but it is near the bottom and not readily seen. Cylindrical shaped vase with a flared mouth- decorated with brightly colored flowers in shades of pinks, purples, and rusts- shaded green leaves and branches- all outlined with raised GOLD enamel giving the piece a"Cloisonne" effect. Additional gold daubs applied randomly and around the base and the mouth add an additional elegance to the piece. ANTIQUE c1890 HAND PAINTED ART NOUVEAU DESIGN VASE ROYAL BONN-FRANZ ANTON MEHLEM I came across this vase quite some time ago at an antique auction. This piece is Royal Bonn by Franz Anton Mehlem and measures approx 31cm high. Handpainted Art Nouveau pattern and highlighted with a gilt trim. Base has felt protectors attached to the bottom rim. Other similiar vases by Royal Bonn sell on ebay from $300.00 to $500.00. This is quite a rare find and in good vintage condition. Photos would best describe the piece. W.A. N.T. S.A. It features an arrangement of flowers in autumnal colors on a warm yellow and orange backdrop with green leaves and accents. Each side of the vase features long handles. Adding to the statuesque feel of the piece. Please note: in our photos below. The color combination(pink and then the blue stripe) is unique. 9 inches tall and about 2 inches across base My knowledge of vases is very limited so please ask any questions. There is crazing on the vase and there are places where there are white marks which I assume to be a loss of paint due to wear vs. flaw in casting. Beautiful. Large, Royal Bonn vase. Floral decoration with silver and green embellishments. Stands 14 1/2 inches high and is 24 inches in diameter around the widest part. Shows it's age but has no chips, cracks and very little crazing. It is absolutely gorgeous and the pictures certainly don't do it any justice. Royal Bonn is the nineteenth-and twentieth-century trade name used by Franz Anton Mehlem. Who had a pottery in Bonn, Germany, from 1836 to 1931. Porcelain and earthenware were made. Royal Bonn used a monogram-and-tower mark that appeared on exported pottery only with Germany added. The factory was purchased by Villeroy& Boch in 1921 and closed in 1931. Many marks were used. Most including the name Bonn. The initials FM. And a crown.
