Superb Hand Painted Owl Moon & Luna Moth Franz Anton Mehlem Royal Bonn Bud Vase
This auction is for a Simply Superb Bud Vase made by Franz Anton Mehlem Royal Bonn of Germany and Beautifully hand painted with an Owl perched on a moss covered tree with a rising moon in the background and branches. Clouds and a luna moth on the other side. It is a True Work of Art with great brushstrokes and different art styles from brown-toned copper and bronze applied with a sponge to a pattern of small dots in light green for leaves and lines that make the Owl's eyes really pop. The vase has two handles and an impressed mark of Franz Anton Mehlem of Bonn Germany. There is also an identification number hand written on the bottom. I believe it says 196 2- It doesn't reflect the year it was made as this piece dates to the late 1800s or early 1900s. The piece is in very good condition especially for its age. A Great Vintage Piece! Lovely Rose Vase by Franz Anton Mehlem There is something to be said about holding a piece of history so close to 100 years old.well in seven more years. I have had this vase for several years and it has been used and purchased used. This Loving looking rose decorated vase has no chips or cracks or hidden repairs. Only defects are in the second photo. 1 spot of paint loss on the leaf just below the large rose near the the highlight leaf area. The other is also on page two in the vary pale blue area next to the upper flower, which you can't hardly see as the pinpoint nicks blend with the background. There is a scratch on the front upper right, visible in the main picture. Neither of these defeats have jeopardized the integrity of the piece. Beautiful Royal Bonn Franz Anton Mehlem Urn This antique vase is hand painted. And numbered. It is attributed to Franz Anton Mehlem. It was manufactured late 1890's to early 1900's by Royal Bonn. Of Germany. The ground is soft off white, the plants are painted in soft colors. The flowers are enhanced by gold gilding. The decorative handles are covered in gold; much highlighting on the vase is also done in gold. This Urn is 14" tall and is about 22" around at the widest point. The base measures 3 3/4" inches across; the top measures almost 4 1/2" across. Please note the manufacturer's imprints. Stamp and hand-painted numbers on the bottom of the Urn. Royal Bonn - Franz Anton Mehlem - Tall Vase / Ewer
This is a beautiful- and tall- Royal Bonn- Franz Anton Mehlem vase. Mehlem had a pottery in Bonn between 1836- 1931- and used the Royal Bonn name. This vase has the Royal Bonn mark with the FM initials. There are also some numbers- but I don't know what these represent. I inherited this beautiful piece from my uncle- who was a collector of Royal Bonn. I intend to keep a few of the pieces- but I just can't keep all of them. He had this piece for many years. It measures 12 1/2" high to the spout- 14" to the top of the handle- 4" across. I can't find any damage or repairs. There is some light wear to the gold consistent with its age. The background graduates from a blush to a cream at the bottom. The jar includes an inner lid and a perforated and decorated top lid. The vase is decorated with a multicolored background and hand painted flowers in yellow. Orange, red and green. It is marked on the bottom with the Mehlem logo of crown and the mark Royal Bonn. This 10" flare top cylindrical vase bears the mark of Royal Bonn/ Franz Anton Mehlem in use circa 1875 to 1890. The background is a very soft cream with vibrant polychrome painted decoration in the aesthetic movement style with raised enamel. The base is about 3 1/8" wide and the top flares to 4 1/2" Most of the flaring is near the top. CONDITION: The base has two large very old chips and a few other small flaws as shown in the photos. When the vase is upright. One chip is slightly visible. When the main decorative side is facing forward, that spot is about at 10 o'clock so you really will not see it when the vase is being displayed. I just purchased this antique Franz Anton Mehlem vase from a local estate here in Central Virginia. The base bears the mark utilized by Steingut-Fabrik und Kunsttöpferei F.A. Mehlem. Inh. F. Guilleaume from 1890 until 1920(the company was previously Steingutfabrik Franz Anton Mehlem, and sold to Villeroy& Boch in 1920) The base also bears the décor design"L.XVI" Louis XVI as part of the mark. The vase is a lovely example of the Blue and White Rococo inspired transfer designs produced by the Bonn-Poppelsdorf, Germany factory during the 1890's. The piece is decorated with two cartouches each featuring a courtier couple in a pastoral setting. The transfer decoration shows rich cobalt blue color and fine detail throughout. Breathtaking 19 ½ Inch Tall Franz Anton Mehlem Royal Bonn German Porcelain Bolted. Covered Vase or Urn With Large, Beautiful Red Roses Porcelain& Pottery:By Maker Or Type:Franz Anton Mehlem Royal Bonn German Porcelain& Pottery Bolted. Covered Vase Or Urn, Red Roses(click picture for more details& pictures) The cover and handles of this spectacular piece are painted in a creamy bluish white that changes to an iridescent. Silvery blue that becomes deeper in color as it washes from the upper body through the base. The raised portions of the fancy designs have been gilded which remains in remarkably good condition today. The handles are scrolled, very ornate, and free of damage of any kind. The front panel offers a cascade of four beautifully hand painted red roses set against a background of shaded and detailed foliage. The ... morerear panel offers a cascade of two red roses against foliage on a much smaller scale. The overall condition is excellent for a piece of the age. There is uniform fine crazing present in the cover and through the upper creamy portions of the piece that is consistent with porcelain of this vintage. I am not able to find any other cracks, chips, spiders or damages of any kind. The marks on the bottom include an underglaze incised 2 and 2800, the circular mark Franz Ant. Mehlem Bonn Reine, and BF(artist initials? as shown in the photo. The base also shows the Crowned FAM Bonn mark used from 1875- 1890. Also in green is written 6072/4 290 Z639 on the inside of the base and Z90 in green on the inside of the lid. The vase/urn stands 19 ½ inches tall to the top of the finial, 11 ½ inches across the handles and 8 inches from front to back at the widest point. Here is a hand decorated ceramic vase, made by Royal Bonn cermaics in Germany. The piece is marked on the bottom with Franz Anton Mehlem's(owner) crown and shield mark was used fron 1890-1920, when the factory was sold to Villeroy and Boch. The vase is 5½" wide at the top, 4½" wide at the bottom, and 14½" tall. The vase by itself weighs 4 pounds. The decoration is of purple and yellow bearded irises and green foliage. There is gold decoration on the top edge. In the irises, and along the bottom edge. Theres no chips or cracks. There is heavy crazing throughout the vase. There's numerous numbers on the bottom which I couldn't find info on. There are a few manufacturing flaws such as popped air bubbles at the surface, Irregularities in the decal used to guide the decorator in hand painting the vase. ... moreAnd paint smudges.
