Circa 1889-1906. This mug is 5 7/8” tall and is marked on the underside of the base with a printed purple CAC mark. The cream-colored porcelain body is heavily decorated on the top portion of the mug with raised jewel-like enamel dots in rose. Mauve, pink, blue and turquoise colors, interspersed with intricate gilding. A similar band of decoration occurs along the bottom of the mug. The handle and bottom edge are heavily gilt. Most pottery decoration is put into three categories: factory decoration(highest quality) Professional decoration(second best quality) and amateur decoration. To a trained eye the differences are obvious. From what I know of American Belleek, and I know quite a bit, this vase is 100% factory decorated, from the background color, to the decoration, to the gold gilt, and the glaze. Factory decorators usually did not sign their work(there are exceptions) Professional and amateur decorators nearly always did. There is no signature, nor are there any initials on this vase. RARE Exquisite Hand Painted Winged Dragon CAC American Belleek Tankard! DIVINE!
The most fabulous piece of American Belleek we have seen! The top background color is green with tan. Umber, and grey used for a background. There is a fabulous winged dragon painted at the top with green wings and a long tail that goes almost to the base of the painted portion of the tankard. The colors are truly gorgeous and vibrant and the painting is very detailed and extremely well done. There are hops painted under the dragon and another wonderful hops design painted on the back of the tankard. Please be sure to enlarge the photos to get a close up look at this tremendous piece of vintage American Belleek. The tankard is 14 1/2" in height and the base is about 6 1/2" in diameter. There are no chips, cracks or repairs that we can see on the decorated portion of the tankard. Around the base on the underside(about 1/2" way ... morearound the base) is a hairline crack that is tight. I really don't know what could have caused this except firing the piece. This is a very beautiful large American Belleek porcelain vase with gilded handles. Lip of vase, and base of vase. The motif is of nasturtiums. The stamp on the bottom, though almost illegible is CAC(Ceramic Art Company) It is the early"pallet" mark for Belleek that was used from 1889 to 1906. It is signed under one of the flowers with the initials: E.M.P. and the number"96. which stands for the year"1896" I purchased it from a private owner who had very little history on the vase. It has been hand painted and signed by the artist. There is a 1 1/4" thin"scratch" to the paint on the back; barely noticeable. There is also a minute pitted area on the back on one of the leaves; looks like it was made during firing. It appears as though the lip of the vase may have been repaired; the gilding looks rough ... morein that area. The curved handles are gilded. The lip is gilded and scrolled on the top, and the bottom rim is gilded. The vase stands approximately 11 1/2" tall. Is 8" from handle to handle, at least 9" in diameter at the largest point. Ceramic Art Company (Early Lenox) Hand Painted American Belleek Vase 1889-1906
This is a gorgeous vase made by the Ceramic Art Co. CAC) between 1889-1906. It stands 9" tall with a 4" base. The tiny 1/2" opening is in pitcher form and has a tiny 2 3/4" x 1/4" handle. There is a tiny crack or loss of paint on the bottom of this handle. Although it does'nt look as if it's been replaced. It could have been. I think this is only a small crack done in the firing. But it is stable none-the-less. The ground starts as a muted brown and turns to a light yellow at the bottom. The hand-painted design is of beautiful yellow roses and leaves. The speckles seen are part of the painting and not dirt. The piece is signed on the side bottom with three initials- ARR? The base has the green palette mark with CAC intertwined in a circle with the word BELEEK beneath. This is an absolutely gorgeous and unusual ... morevase form which is 109-126 years old.
