You are bidding on a rare and antique squatty squat vase from the late 1800's. It features beautifully hand painted purple flowers with elegant gold accents around the rolled rim. It is signed on the bottom- Vienna. Austria. The mark is that of Peter H. Leonard, a New York importer who purchased items from Count Thun's factory in Klasterec, from 1880 to 1898. This is in excellent condition with only some minor gold paint loss around the rolled rim. There are no chips. Cracks or repairs. The vase measures 5 inches in diameter and 2.5 inches in height. This was my aunts. Who lived to be 100 years old. She took great care of it. Vienna. Austria 1890s-ca.1900's Squat Vase 8 in. widest x 4-3/4 in. high. NO chips. Cracks, repairs and minimal wear to the gold About the porcelain factory mark: As porcelain painting became such a popular art form in the booming America during the Turn of the Century. Over 110 years ago, high-quality porcelain were in strong demand. Peter H. Leonard(later joined by his son, Harry P. Leonard) started his import company in 1880 in New York City, New York. Like other US importers at the time who bought porcelain from various sources including factories from the village of Limoges France, Germany and Austria to fulfill this high demand, Peter Leonard's company mainly imported porcelain from factories in Bohemia, Austria region. The mark is of the Vienna China ... moreline from Count Thun's factory in Klášterec. It was used by US importers during 1890-1908. Among the four American(New York) importers who used this mark on their imported porcelain, P.H. Leonard was the first to have used this mark, during 1890-1898. This beautiful example is made of very fine porcelain and has beed cast into one of this makers most popular molds as a squat vase. This oiece has been fully hand painted in what I believe to be pansies in yellow and purple and the upper rim has been heavily gilt in gold. My pictures really speak to the quality of the artistry of this piece better than I could ever convey in words. I cannot find an aertist signature or initials however this was obviously painted by a master of the medium. This will make an amazing addition to your collection and will look gorgeous in your favorite cabinet or out for display for all to see and admire.
