Outstanding pair of early spill vases that have been filled and capped possibly during production. Faint impression on the back bottom of girl that looks like"GERMANY" Which I've tried to capture in the photos but is so light as to be indiscernible. Bisque porcelain with a green matte glaze with gold accents. Superb condition for age with only some minor chipping: Boy: flower is missing its leaves- Girl: Flower is missing one petal. All else is intact and perfect! No repairs, hairlines, etc. Check out the girls' hat! Both are standing on ladders(orchard sitters) Heavy from being filled. No other discernible marks. The vase is handpainted only on one side as it was intended to sit on a mantel. It is 8 1/2" high to tip of boys' hat. And is it 5 3/4" long. The vase is about 3 1/2" deep. The vase is a sheath of wheat with a vine across the top. The young boy is beautifully painted with typical German clothing. And such detail on the pants. Note the knee socks.beautiful face. And definition work in his shirt. The ONLY flaw to report is a lost tip of the thumb on the boys right hand. It is very hard to notice. The famous Unger. Schneider& Co. of Grafenthal, Thuringia, Germany is incised on the bottom of the base. Exquisite detail in workmanship is what this beautiful vase presents. Every aspect of this victorian bisque piece is magnificant right down to the gold slippers the young lady is wearing. The vase measures about 6 1/2" tall and is about 6 1/4" in length. I believe that this is Imperial. It is marked on the back bottom righthand side- there is an oval with a mark inside. Which I cannot make out clearly and a number incized next to the oval that reads 10049 or it could be 13049. This piece is basically in mint condition with some slight wear inthe gold accent along the base and the very top column. A high quality piece for your quality collection. Welcome to my ebay store! Here is a very pretty Victorian era original spill vase. Beautifully crafted. It is a girl sitting on a wood fence. She is nicely dressed in period clothing and hat reminiscent of French earlier style fashion as in Meissen figures. Her dress has little relief dots of pottery finished with gold lustre as her shoes. Very finely detailed hand painted face. On the back is the number 3542 incised in typically ornate European curly style numbering. If there was any marks on bottom such as red numbers, they are long since worn off. Similar pieces to this do have red numbers on bottom helping to id the maker. I am guessing this is a French or German porcelain piece. See all photos for description detail. Came from a large UK estate of porcelain figures I purchased. See my others on ebay. This is a wonderful gorgeous very RARE and SIGNED(marked) example of the spill vase work of the famous porcelain model artist Carl Schneider(who has worked closely with Unger and Hutschenreuther) It has the impressed mark G double arrow. With the DEP and no crown. dating it to 1879- 1886. It is a boy figurine with a blue hat and sash leaning on a set of three columns. Gold is splashed on his necklace, around the columns, and on the footers. There is some blue on the florals and footers as well. The top is open with deep pockets down each column to allow for the"spill" or match holder. Below is a description of a"Spill Vase" for those who are not familiar. Vintage German art nouveau bisque porcelain women& flower spill vase which measures approximately 4 1/2" tall measuring from the base to the top of the women's head. It is approximately 4" wide. Vase is marked on the back with numbers as shown in one of our pictures. Condition- Flower has a little bit of a rough feel around the top rim, back of flower white part is a bit dirty looking as shown in our picture, not sure what could be used to clean it, inside of flower could use a cleaning also. Antique Victorian German Bisque Circus Clowns Spill Vases c1880's, gm837
Offered for the discerning collector is this fabulous antique set of Victorian German bisque porcelain spill vases or match safes. A spill holder or a"Spill" is a vase or holder used to hold spills which are slivers of wood. A twist of paper or a spiral of wood shaving used to light a fire or a wall light during the 1700 and 1800's. Matches were few and far between and were expensive. They would have these on the mantel or on a table close to the wall lamps for easy access to light the fires. These are marked"Germany" and each has a model number. These were made in the late 1800's. They are very colorful and features the French clown Pierrot. Dressed in a loose fitting white blouse with large buttons and wide pantaloons with a frilled collaret and a skull cap. He is known as the"Sad Clown" as he pines ... morefor the love of Columbine who breaks his heart and leaves him for Harlequin. The other spill vase features Columbine. Which means"little dove" She is the wife of Pierrot but leaves him for Harlequin. She wears a frilled collaret and a pretty little fitted dress with a pleated skirt and gold shoes. These measure 4.75 inches long. 2 inches wide and stands about 4.5 inches tall. I found these in Belgium. It was great to find the pair together after all of these years! Pierrot is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks! Columbine is also in excellent condition with no chips. I do see what may be a manufactures flaw on the inside back of one of the openings. It is a line which I have taken a photo. The piece is very sturdy and I saw the line with a magnifying glass so is not a problem for a piece this old. This is a double spill vase. The largest receptacle is to the boy's right with a smaller one behind him and a fence in between. The boy is dressed as a young aristocrat with bowed napoleonic hat. Short blue pants and waistcoat with tails. There a gold details scattered overall. It is numbered 6858 and has a gold painting mark(28) on the bottom. It is in excellent condition with the only visible wear is on the gold tips of his shoes. approx. 6 1/2" tall and 6 1/2" wide.

Aesthetic Movement Parian Ware Spill Vase Robinson& Leadbeater Bisque Porcelain 19th c 1885 This is an antique 19th century spill holder/vase made by Robinson and Leadbeater of Stoke-on-Trent. The piece is made of“Parian” Which was a type of bisque porcelain that Robinson and Leadbeater specialized in and was one of the largest producers of. The piece is made in the naturalistic style of the Aesthetic Movement, popular in Europe primarily during the last half of the 19th century. The bowl is shaped and embossed with shell-like features and decorated with a seaweed or coral motif at the bottom of the bowl. It sits on a triform leg support that looks like three bamboo shafts tied together. Each leg has an opening that can accommodate longer pieces of“spill” spill was usually thin pieces of wood or rolled paper that would be used to transfer ... morefire from the fireplace to light candles, lamps or even cigars. A spill vase like this would have been kept on the fireplace mantle for easy access. The style of this vase was obviously influenced by Japanese design, which was drawn upon by Aesthetic Movement designers due to its emphasis on nature as art. This spill vase measures 6 3/4” in height and 5” across the bottom of its legs. It weighs 14.4 oz. It is in very good condition with the exception of a firing fissure visible at one of the feet(see close-up photo) that is demonstrating a bit of iron content discoloration. Natural, and I believe original to the making of the piece. One of the feet is impressed with“R&L” within an oval, the mark used by Robinson and Leadbeater. A similar example can be seen online in a Google book copy of an 1885 catalog that is part of the collection of the Library of the Winterthur Museum in Delaware. This is an interesting piece of Parian Ware.
