Here is an antique Art Nouveau porcelain fruit vase by Josef Strnact- JS Austria- Freudian" Molded Fruit VASE. This vase dates from about 1937. It it marked"JS Made in Austria" in reddish orange shield. And impressed with 4537 in oval and another impressed letter that looks like a 7. You may know amphora as a type of large two-handled Grecian vase originally designed for storage. But the name Amphora also refers to art pottery produced in the Turn-Teplitz region of Bohemia during the Art Nouveau era. These wares are referred to by dealers and collectors as“Teplitz” from time to time as well. Two Beautiful Hand Painted Porcelain Vases Made In Austria Pre World War II 1900-1911 Lovely hand painted flowers with gold outlining. Gold trim on the handles. Very nice and unusual shape. No chips or cracks. One vase seems to be slightly lighter in color than the other. They stand 10.75” tall& 5” wide at the widest part. I believe these are JS Josef Strnact. Please check out the PICS. If someone knows differently about the mark please let me know! I had an antique dealer look at these years ago and she told me they would be worth around $350 at Auction but Insure Value at $475. These were given to my Grandmother years ago. Then passed down to my Mom. I can remember her displaying them on each end of the piano with fresh flowers, everyone always commented on how pretty they were. Austrian Amphoria- Josef Strnact Turn-Teplitz Royal Teplitz Aurora Vase. The vase measures 16 inches high by 9 inches wide and dates or early 1900s. It is signed on the bottom Royal Teplitz- Aurora- J S and the number 4246. The mandate of the Imperial Technical School for Ceramics and Associated Applied Arts in Turn Teplitz was" turn live examples from nature(exact and stylized) into clay. That is exactly what Josef Strnact did when he created this magnificent vase. The vase is of fine porcelain in a basket weave motif favored by Strnact. Draped across the front of the basket weave is a branch of ripe pears in bas relief. Almost three dimensional. They are glazed in perfect colors. You can imagine Strnact's inspiration. perhaps an early autumn picnic. a branch of ripe pears falling out of the picnic basket. the golden late-afternoon ... moresun trimming the branches with its light. He couldn't wait to get back to his studio and replicate in clay what he saw in nature. The vase is impessed with the mark Joseph Strnach used between 1900 and 1933. Which was his initials and a"flower" on a shield. Strnach's mark, combined with a stamped mark, which, in this case, is"Royal Teplitz Aurora, dates the vase c. 1918. It is also embossed with number 4746. It has a small crack in the back and is missing one piece of fruit which can been seen in the photos. Please see all my other art. Dark cobalt blue with hand painted gold gilt detailing, double handles and a hand painted depiction of two Victorian women. There is light loss to the gold paint but no other damage is visible—no chips, cracks, or any other damage. Only natural imperfections and irregularities consistent with this piece being handmade are visible. I have included many photos to show this vase clearly/accurately.
