1953 Handwritten European Trip Diary Wanglin Family of Beverly Hills CA Ephemera
This is an exceptional handwritten trip diary that was also used as a scrapbook and originally belonged to Ann and Chase Wanglin of Los Angeles California and actually they were living in Beverly Hills California when this diary was written. It represents a trip they took to Europe in 1953 and contains 140 pages of handwritten entries and/or ephemera. He was actually named Byron Chase Wanglin but went by Chase. He was born on February 7 th. 1903 and died May 3 rd. 1985. Ann J. Georgeson Wanglin was born in 1922 and died in 1982. They had one son by the name of Wade and in the back of the diary is a cut out article from“Skylines” magazine that talks about Wade, and I quote… Wade H. Wanglin started his insurance career with Western Adjustment in Parsons. Kansas in 1939. A few years later he was transferred to Joplin. Missouri. As manager. Wade ... morehas always been active in Blue Goose and has played a prominent part in the annual Blue Goose Mohawk Flight in Joplin. He was born in Webb City. Missouri and has always resided in the shadow of the Ozarks. It is only natural that hunting and fishing are his principal hobbies. Wade spent a few years in Arkansas with the Ford Motor Company and it was while traveling that state that he met his wife. Pauline. He is very quiet by nature, has little to say unless he has someone to listen to him. His name was shortened from Wang Lin to plain Wanglin due to the fact he was often accused of being of Chinese descent. As far as Ann and Chase are concerned(the authors of this book) It looks like Chase had quite the military career. He was a graduate of the U. S. Naval Academy and during World War II, headed the Navy’s training programs at USC and Occidental College. He also served as a naval attaché to the White House during the Truman Administration. He retired from the Naval Reserve as full commander. He and Ann eventually moved to Westwood which is a commercial and residential district in Los Angeles California. He is the founding member of the Westwood Village Chamber
