We have the a set of two reports of proceedings for the Pennsylvania German Society Volume XXV with proceedings at Lancaster on November 13, 1914, published in 1917, and also, Volume XIV with proceedings at Lebanon, October 22, 1903, published in 1905. Both of the volumes have marriage records, officers of the society, original copy of letters, journal excerpts, and manuscripts originally discussed and researched in the meeting for ancestral and genealogical purposes. The largest book measures at approx. 10 x 2 x 6.75. It appears that the XIV version's original soft cover has been cut out and placed on a later, hard copy version, as you can see the repair marks, and more likely rebound. The hardcover is in great condition, there is minor toning on the book edges and slight edge tears. The soft cover XXV edition has a very worn cover, worn& slightly loose spine, toning on the pages. We have an awesome estate find! Up for your bidding pleasure, is an old family book tracing the lineage of the Whitelock family of Pennsylvania and Delaware. Isaac Whitelock was a preeminent Lancaster Quaker and businessman with many handwritten records within including records of the passing of this book from descendant to descendant. Whitelock was one of Lancaster's architects being a huge land owner. He owned a brewery, a tannery and was a landlord. Beginning with Isaac Whitelock born in 1712, the inside front pages are listed with hand-written birth and death accounts of the descendants of the Whitelocks. In addition, a customized ex-libris is found on the inside front cover of John C. Mendenhall, a descendant of Whitelock and previous owner of this book. The book is titled. Journal of the life of Thomas Story, containing an account of his remarkable convincement of and embracing the principles of truth as held by the people called Quakers and also of his travels and labours in the service of the gospel, with many other occurrences and observations.
