Two Antique Handwritten Pen and Ink Books Journals Dated 1814 and 1818 English
One book is 9" by 7 1/2" The other is 9 1/2" by 7 1/2" The plain brown book has" Miscellaneous Extracts" on the inside cover dated 1818. This one has the water stains. Both have outside cover paper loss due to some type of"nibbling" over the years. It is 1 1/8" thick. The thinner book has a hand painted design on the front and back cover. It only has one page(the last page that is the Index) that has a piece missing. TWO CHARMING ANTIQUE SPELLING BOOKS, ELEMENTARY, CIRCA 1857
Here are two very attractive(to antiquers) little spelling books. Poor condition basically but with the kind of look that makes them a charming design accent in any living room or office. The two books are each 4 inches by 6 1/2" And about 1/2 inch thick. They are intended to be used in schools by children and they obviously were. I have had them on my living room front table for many years. Just lying there with a marble apple and a pair of antique metal rimmed glasses. They were noticed and oohed over by everyone who entered the room. The first book. With the darker blue cover, second photo, clearly says The National Standard, Elementary SPELLING BOOK, AMERICAN SPELLING BOOK, BY NOAH WEBSTER, LLD. There is more on the cover. But hard for me to read with my 80 year old eyes. The next two photos are of the inside of the book. Showing ... moresome damage and also a pair of good pages. The next photo is from a similar book. Same size and age, which probably says the same thing except it is faded to the point where all I can read is SPELLING. The frontispiece is missing on each book. But I found the date 1857 in one of them. The first one is fair to poor. The second one is poor to really bad. But the essence of the age and idea makes them have great decorator value. They are also fun to read. There is much in each one besides just words. I will send them together Priority Mail for $ 5.90. Insured. Antique Books Lot of 2 by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Blue one is The House of the Seven Gables Arlington Edition and the Greenish one is The Great book of Recitations and Dialogues Three Volumes in One. Both published by Hurst Publishing Company. No Dates in either one except for the Preface in the Arlington Edition of 1851. However. That is from the original date of first printing and not when this book was first printed. These are probably early 20th centruy to the 1920s. All pages intact and connected. Paper is brown from age. Paper is thick. Spines are flexible and some of the pages at binding are not showing signs of loosening. Please refer to pictures for general condition. Lot of 3 antique books printed 1894-1927
Antique lot of three books printed from 1894-1927. From left to right-Twenty-Four Little French Dinners and How to Cook and Serve Them by Cora Moore first printing 1919 second 1920 and this copy is the third printing in 1923. Fair condition pages have aged in color but are not bent or torn. Though there are some foods penciled in the margins which I think gives it a little character, though they could be erased. Middle book is a first edition Comic Dialogues for Boys and Girls written by Carleton B Case. Published in 1927. It is in great condition as well, no bent or torn pages though they are slightly yellowed from age. Last book is Bible Stories for Little Children with the Approbation or Cardinal McCloskey. 2nd printing by Benziger Brothers in 1894. Lot of 3 Vintage Antique Children's Picture Books
This listing is for a lot of 3 very old children's book that were purchased at an older estate auction. One book is called"Fuzzy Wuzzy Puppy" and was written by Florence Sarah Winship. It was published by the Whitman Publishing Co. in 1946. It has a pencil inscription on the front cover and the front cover is partially ripped at the binding. It shows some age but overall is pretty decent for being as old as it is. Another book is called"The Little Red Hen" and it's a picture story book. It was printed by the Abbott publishing company but does not show a year. By its looks I would estimate it's about as old as the first book. The last book is called The Picture and Rhyme Book and on the front it states it is"cloth like. It was published by the Saalfield publishing company in 1941. It shows age and has a ... morerip on the binding part way. All in all these 3 books are very decent examples of some very old children's book.

He was known as one of Bangor. Maine's"Grand Old Men" He raised a lot of money and made sure all prisoners of war got feed square meals. Until he got involved, only the strongest prisoners got to the food leaving the weakest ones to starve. He was a very interesting man, and so was his wife. American Childhood The Magazine of Child Education in School and Home June 1956. The bottom and top edges are showing a little wear. There are two Monthly Activity Units by the Continental Press in 1948. February and March. February is in great shape. March the cover has a few rips on the cover. Hektograph Primary Seatwork Story Pictures was published by Hamilton Publishing Comapny in 1946. The pages are in excellent shape. But the cover has a tear out of the to left corner and a rip on the left side.
