You are bidding on all of the items in the photographs. This collection of entomological items are in "as found" condition. There are two "D. F. Tayler ... more& Cos" pin boxes, one has pins the other has labels, some of these are hand written. Some of the "British Moth" labels have been used, but the lettering still has a good colour. The specimen case is corked lined, one of the brass catches is missing from one end, but it does fit together well. There are a number of specimen pots, the card ones have glass bottoms. I have tried to show the condition in the photographs. Please be aware that customs or import duties may apply.

He even published eleven volumes under the title Philosophy in Process, detailing his continuing and sometimes daily reflections over the years 1955–1987. A seminal point of Weiss's philosophy is that Being consists of a plurality of individuals that are unified by universality, which gives a structure to all there is, but that is also irreducible in four distinct ways.7] During his prime, Weiss maintained a style of philosophy that was considered by many to be out-of-date. WINNEBAGO NATIVE AMERICAN INDIAN Handwritten Manuscript Letter/Ho-Chunk Tribe
FANTASTIC. ORIGINAL 19TH CENTURY AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED BY A NATIVE AMERICAN INDIAN AND WRITTEN IN HIS NATIVE LANGUAGE. This terrific letter was written in Elroy. Juneau County, Wisconsin on April 27th, 1894. Letter is signed"Little Thunder" and beneath signature is what appears to be his anglicized name of"L.T. Artitchaker" Further inscribed below, in a different hand, is the phrase"Indian letter written by one who stayed here all night. Letter is untranslated, however collateral material obtained with it states"Family legend claims he was a member of the Winnebago[aka Ho-Chunk] Tribe of Wisconsin" thus suggesting letter was written in a dialect known to this tribe. Original material from the 1800s written by Native American Indians in their native tongue is increasingly rare. While some indigenous Native ... moreAmerican dialects remain vibrant. Many today are sadly teetering on the verge of extinction due to dwindling numbers of speakers. A truly wonderful and scarce 19th century example. The Ho-Chunk. Also known as Winnebago, are a Siouan-speaking tribe of Native Americans, native to the present-day states of Wisconsin, Minnesota, and parts of Iowa and Illinois. Today the two federally recognized Ho-Chunk tribes, the Ho-Chunk Nation of Wisconsin and Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska, have territory primarily within the states included in their names. The Winnebago speak a Siouan language and their name for themselves. Or autonym, is Ho-Chunk[Hocąk] It has had numerous spelling variations: Hocak, Hotanke, Houchugarra, Hotcangara, Ochungaraw, Ochungarah, Hochungra Hochungara, and Ochangara, as Europeans tried to transliterate the name. Translations include: the fish eaters, the trout people, the big fish people" the big speech people, the people of the big voice, the people of the parent speech" and"the people of the original language. Current elders say it means, the people of the big voice" or"the people of the sacred language. The term"Winnebago" was d

OLIVER WENDELL HOLMES~ALS~Handwritten Manuscript~Signed Letter~Boston MA 1886~VG
FANTASTIC. ORIGINAL AUTOGRAPHED LETTER SIGNED BY OLIVER WENDELL HOLMES. RARE ALS IS A CROSS COLLECTIBLE DATED 1886. This historically important letter was written by Oliver Wendell Holmes in 1886. And reads as follows: 296 Beacon Street, Boston. To The Treasurer of the Boston& Providence Railroad. Dear Sir, The power of attorney given to Mrs. Kidder, Peabody& Co. to access my dividends during my absence is hereby revoked. Please send all dividends standing in my name as Trustee or otherwise to me, at the above address. Yours Truly, OW Holmes. Kidder. Peabody& Co. was established in April 1865 by Henry P. Kidder. Francis H. Peabody, and Oliver W. Peabody in Boston, Massachusetts, and was a U.S. based securities firm. Its operations included investment banking, brokerage, and trading. Kidder, Peabody acted as a commercial bank, ... moreinvestment bank, and merchant bank. The firm had an active securities business, dealing in treasury bonds and municipal bonds, as well as corporate bonds and stocks. Kidder also actively traded and invested in securities for its own account, and apparently Oliver Wendell Holmes was one of their investors; investing in the Boston& Providence Railroad. The Boston and Providence Railroad was an early U.S. Railroad in New England, connecting Boston and Providence and is now part of Amtrak's Northeast Corridor. At this point in time there is a 7 unit apartment building at 296 Beacon Street Boston, and official records show that it was built to replace an 1870 house built on that site for Oliver Wendell Holmes. Handwritten REVIVALIST STAMPLESS LETTER ADVENTIST Second Great Awakening PA 1843
Auction for authentic hand written stampless letter written by a revivalist preacher of the Second Great Awakening era. To Mr. S. Wingert. Landisburg, Pa. Perry County. The letter is dated Jan 11. 1843 written from Sunbury Pa. postmarked Jan. 14 signed by? Wingert. The Wingert name repeatedly appears in connection to Pennsylvania Millerites. However the research on this preaching family needs to be continued by a historian/ specialist. The Wingerts also seem to be related to the United Brethren Church in that area. This is an amazing letter; he describes the grace of God in Zions Meetinghouse. 6 miles from this place(Sunbury) a meeting has been going on for 16 days. 130 people professed faith in Jesus, in one week 54 people were at the altar and foot of the cross. Upwards of 200 people have been blessed in believing in Zion’s Church. Wingert ... moreis also preaching in a grove for 3 days with his Uncle. Holding a protracted effort in that place“and he is a“servant of the Lord in the morral vineyard. He mentions that Brother Peter and Andrew are well. The friends are all well(Quakers? he also addresses the letter to his family, dear friends. The letter writer is clearly engrossed in his evangelical efforts; he may have been part of the Methodist revivalist movement. Lutheran Zionist, Evangelical or Adventist Millerism. If he is Adventist then the Jan. 1843 date takes on high significance because this is written a few months before the expected Second Coming will occur(Oct. 1843) and the momentum towards that time is building. Minor rips. Easy to read 1 1/2 pages. Please look at my other auction for MORE HANDWRITTEN AMERICAN HISTORY FROM 1832! I combine ship at reduced price.
34 Handwritten Typed Letters National Association Letter Carriers Oregon 1906-13
Skip to the red portion if you’ve read this already) I’m in a bit of a quandary. I’m very passionate about keeping family groups together but for the first time I’m going to split up a letter lot but here are the reasons why. I just purchased from the antique show here in Oregon a group of letters and all of them were addressed to Kirk P. Loop of McMinnville Oregon. He was a rural letter carrier. Postmaster and held other prominent positions during his life time. The reason I’m putting them in specific groups and selling them that way is that they are not personal letters but letters concerning his postal activities or his various positions in other vocations and political situations, etc. I know there are different collectors out there who specialize in political signatures, or specific letterheads, or political and fraternal organizations ... moreso this is the way I’ve split them up. It won’t be just one letter at a time but several related groups at a time. Plus there are so many different categories that I could list them on EBay that just picking two would be so difficult; another reason I’m splitting them up. Hopefully this all makes sense) And I will be listing them through out this coming week that way if you want to bid on several lots and have them sent together I can do that. So, again, forgive me if this insults anyone, and again I don’t usually do this but felt it ok in this situation. None of the letters are from Mr. Loop, all are to him. None came with the original covers and I have no idea where those covers are. Also please note that the yellow line(or pink one) that might be shown in the scans above is only from my scanner and not on the letter itself. Up for auction today are 34 handwritten and typed letters and all of them having letterheads that say. National Association of Letter Carriers. Before I get to the letters themselves I want to give you a little history behind the Association that I found on their own web site… The National Association of Letter Carriers is the union of city del

1919 Handwritten Letter Fetter Rittinger Sunbury PA American Expeditionary Force
This is such a sad letter and it really shows just how terrible and widespread the influenza epidemic was during WWI. The letter is addressed to“Samuel H. Fetter OMC 537 Casualty Co. American Expeditionary Force. It is written by his father-in-law C. H. Rettinger of Sunbury Pennsylvania. The letter is 5 pages long and is all about the death of his daughter(Samuel’s wife) who died a few days earlier of influenza. I don’t usually quote from the entire letter but thought I would with this one. Please note that he is a bit illiterate and I want to quote exactly the way he writes… Sunbury Jan. 1. 1919 Mr. Fetter, Dear son it is with the gratest of sorrow I write you this letter to let you know that yor wife and my daughter died December the 26 at 9:20 P.M at our home. 1894-1900 Handwritten Letter Copy Book J. Hardon Cambridge MA La Plata CO Mining
Up for auction today is what is known as a Letter Book. Before these technological times. In order to have a copy of your letters, you would write in these thick books that had tissue paper and with the use of carbon paper, each letter written would have its own copy. So these are the original copies of his letters written, both personal and business. Remember, these are the actual carbon copies, not the letters themselves(although there are a quite a few regular loose letters that I found between the pages. There are a total of 497 used pages used in this book that date between 1894-1900. The best thing about this journal of copied letters is that it belonged to a very prominent man by the name of Joseph Bradford Hardon; whom I might add was married to the second cousin of President Cleveland. Before I get to the actual letters themselves ... moreI found an obituary on the web taken from a 1902 book about Harvard College and its graduates and I quote… Joseph Bradford Hardon died suddenly at this home in Cambridge January 1 st. 1902. Hew was born in Attleboro. Mass, was March 31 st. 1834 and thus the oldest member of our class. His father, comfort Hardon, moved his family to Martinsburg. Va. In 1841. He was the proprietor of various stage lines, till the opening of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad ruined that business. Comfort Hardon was the son of Jacob Hardon. Who served in the Revolutionary War. Our classmate’s mother was Anna Hall Field. He lived in Virginia some ten years and began early to impart to others what he had learned in the usually poor schools in the vicinity of his home. The school that he taught in 1852 in Falling Waters was held in the edge of the woods in a log-house“chinked and daubed. whose furniture was of the rudest description. After studying the common branches, he essayed Latin and Greek, under the tuition of Presbyterian clergyman. His plan to go to college in 1853 was thwarted by ill-health; and for three years he served as a clerk in the wholesale silk goods house of Plimpton, S
1880's Handwritten 8pg Travel Letter Mainz Germany Hotel Letterhead/Ireland ++
This is a fabulous 8 page handwritten travel letter to an“Emma” from her parents who are in Europe at the time. The letter was written in the 1880’s and on Rheinischer Hof Hotel stationery. The Rheinischer Hof is in Mainz Germany. There is no cover. Just the letter and I’ve taken a few quotes to give you a better example of the contents… July 28 th. 188_ Dear Emma. Yesterday or Thursday I should say, was baby’s birthday and we all thought of her and very soon will be Frankie’s birthday…In every place in Europe we have been to things are enormous high. This sheet of paper cost four cents and all else in proportion. At Cork we stopped at the Imperial Hotel, a very nice one and as we had only a few minutes of time we jumped into a jaunting car and rode a half hour at two shillings… Blarney Castle. Lakes of Killarney at the Lake House) We visited ... morethe Lakes of Killarney in the west of Ireland. We stopped at the Lake House and after a ride of 15 miles in a stage we alighted to ride four miles on horseback. Donkeys or horses. The track was steep and narrow lined with horse flies(or doctors as they call them) and beggars. The first bled the horses, the last us, until I stamped my feet with rage. The beggars are terrible offering us mountain dew(bad whiskey) and goat’s milk. The scenery is grand. We saw where St. Patrick banished the snakes, old castles, ruins, old bridges, old everything. It was on this ride we were with in two or three miles of the Atlantic Ocean. The nearest point of Great Britain to America and where the cable commences. After leaving our horses we took row boats and rowed all through the lakes a distance of twenty miles back to the hotel. The whole journey taking nine hours. We next visited Dublin which was about 200 miles away. Arriving at 6 in the eve, stopping at Morrison’s Hotel. We went to the theatre in eve, Saw“Our Boys” ladies requested to remove their hats as all in our part of the theatre full dresses… Boat to Whales which was a ride of about 6 hours then Chester and Lo

Listed Artist Taylor Handwritten Illustrated Letter Original Cartoon Manuscript
1932 two page original handwritten illustrated letter from American listed artist Henry White Taylor(1899-1943) to his daughter drawn on the artist’s letterhead. Also. An illustrated by Taylor, printed four page brochure for the sale of his Paoli, PA home and studio entitled“House in the Woods” The letter was sent from when the artist’s home and study in the woods was located at“the end of Biddle Road. Paoli PA, the envelope is marked with a 1932 postal cancellation. Henry White Taylor is a fairly obscure American artist. Due in part to his short life(he died at age 44) however his rarely available work sells at auction in the. 3.500 to 10,000 dollar range with a few examples sold in recent years by Rago. Of particular interest to anyone who owns a Henry W. Taylor painting. Or those who collect artist’s letters, and archives. This whimsical ... morecartoon illustrated letter to the artist’s daughter is positively charming. The sales brochure is an interesting example of the artist applying his skills and creativity to the practical matter. Of selling his home. It also provides a rare view of the artists PA studio where he created many of his paintings(very little biographical information on Henry White Taylor is available) Interestingly. A caricature of a long landscape painting that hangs over the fire place mantle in the home’s interior sketch bears a striking resemblance to a similarly dimensioned(15 x 62) landscape that sold at Rago in 2014. If you know who now owns the landscape. Please let them know about this listing! A few biographical notes I found on Taylor: He was a best friend of. And read and critiqued the pre-published manuscripts for, 1939 Pulitzer prize winning author T.S. Tribling. He was a staff illustrator in the 1930’s for the Saturday Evening Post. And was acquainted with N.C. Weyth. He studied under Hugh Breckenridge. Condition The illustrated letter is in excellent condition. The letter was written on the artist’s letterhead paper which was a good quality watermarked bond paper. The pape

1956 Handwritten Letter Lot Geologist Parker Calkin Adak Station Alaska Atlanta
Parker Emerson Calkin is the author of these letters and they were all written by him while stationed at the U. S. Naval Station in Adak Alaska. I’m not sure how long he’s been in Adak but he says he’s being trained to be a Top Secret Control Officer and also a Radio Officer. While there he’s also studying to become a geologist which eventually becomes his profession. Dr. Calkin wrote several books and articles concerning his geological findings and studies. I’ve listed some of those titles at the end of this description. Parker was born in 1933 to the parents of Frank G. and Georgia Calkin in the state of New York. He graduated from college and headed to Alaska to the Navy Base in the 1950’s. I think he was just studying geology on the side while in the Navy but by the looks of things he became quite the prominent geologist. In fact there ... moreis a Glacier named after him called. Calkin Glacier. It’s just west of Sentinel Peak and was so named by the United States Antarctic Research Program in the early 1960’s. He ended up being a professor of Geology at the University of Buffalo and in 1994 was elected chair of the Quaternary Geology and Geomorphology Division of the Geological Society of America. Since 1977 Calkin has made annual expeditions to Alaska. And Antarctica. He also conducted field research in Greenland. The Yukon and Northwest Territory and British Columbia. I’m not quite sure when he passed away but I can tell you he married a woman by the name of Joan. As far as these letters go. There are a total of 23 and between the 23 letters there are 40 handwritten& typed pages, all signed by Calkin. Included in this lot is a wonderful booklet from the 1950’s all about the U. S. Naval Station in Adak and a black and white photo of Parker the year he received his PHD in 1963. Plus a fabulous Christmas card from the base. Some of the letters are also written on stationary from the Naval station itself. He is writing home to his folks in Atlanta Georgia. Such interesting letters to because Adak is such an in
