As far as we can tell this is a first edition book from Edinburgh. The covers are in great used condition. Elaborately illustrated with gold hot stamp and black on sienna colored covers. It is undated but, from the research we did, it’s circa 1872-1873 and there is a penned inscription inside dated 1873. The dark sienna hardcover and spine are illustrated with gold hot stamp and black on beautiful impressed patterns. The covers are in great used condition with no fraying, creasing. It has some wear marks but that is all. Spine is solid and intact. With small bending of the fabric of the cover at the very top edge. There are 715 pages which are slightly tanned and very brittle. It has a title page date of 1867 and a copyright page date of 1866 and I believe is a first edition book. The author wrote a collection of poetry regarding the Civil War struggles making this a rather unusual book. The dedication reads. Of the title and author, is extremely well preserved, both on the front cover and the binding. The page edges are just starting to discolor some, but they have not succumb to brittleness, and there's almost no foxing. I actually didn't see any foxing, aside from a touch on the inside of the cover, but I also did not look at every single page so it's ... morepossible there's a minor spot or two hidden amongst them. The gold leaf on the top page edges, is still very much intact, and still has a great deal of luster. The binding is tight, and there are no loose or missing pages. This is a very nice antique book.
