This set is beautiful with some light shelf wear at corners and some foxing on cover page.I have not looked at each page but all look to be in fine condition. The book was published by Theodore Burling in New York City(265 Bowery and 61 Fulton St) and printed at the same location by H.R. Piercy. The book is subtitled"Containing Original Essays, Extracts From New Works; Historical Narratives; Biographical Memoirs; Sketches of Society; Topographical Descriptions; Novels and Tales; Anecdotes; Poetry, Original and Selected; The Spirit of the Public Journals, Discoveries in the Arts and Sciences, Useful Domestic Hints, c. c. c. This book was in my father-in-law's collection. He was an antique dealer/collector and a World War II veteran. It was procured by him in upstate New York many years ago. The book contains a myriad of literary publishing of historical significance ... morefrom that era including essays regarding the Revolutionary War. The cover is well worn as you can see in the third picture. The title page in the first picture is partially torn(though complete) and that page and the Note to the Reader page is hanging onto the spine of the book with 1 binding string. Then pages through page 8 are missing. However. Pages 9 through the end page(page 749) are fully bound in the book and each page is legible and intact and readable, though a few of the pages are a bit stained. The very last page(Index to the First Volume) is torn on the bottom and missing. I have tried to describe accurately the condition of the book above. Please send me questions as you may have them. Thanks for looking up for bid is this old rare book I found at a sale. I have been doing some research on it but have not had to much luck finding any like it out their. Anyways it is a hard cover book and on the outside binding as seen in the picture it says Dictionary of Decisions. On the inside of front cover is a tag as in picture also Vermont State Library purchased from Boston Book Co. in Feb.17.1896. The cover page it says Decisions of the Court Of Session from the year 1733 to the year 1754 it is Volume#1 edited from the original manuscript by William Maxwell Morison, ESQ. ADVOCATE and it is dated 1813. EDINBURGH this page also has a seal stamped in page for Vermont State Library. Offered for sale is this rare complete 15 volume book set titled DICKENS' WORKS Illustrated Sterling Edition published by DANA ESTES& COMPANY out of Boston. The books are not dated but appear to be an early 1900's book set. The hardcovers are half leather with red cloth and in excellent condition. There is light wear on the edges and the leather on the spines. Just enough to give them a wonderful"old" look. Some of the books have a little more wear on the leather on the spines than others do. The pages are very bright and clean and very pliable. The pages have very light yellowing from age, but less than one would expect. The black and white illustrations are beautiful really giving vision to these great works authored by Charles Dickens. They measure about 8" by 5 3/4" and the average volume has 500 pages. ... moreThe pages are so tight that I think they were seldom read, if ever! The books are complete and the set is complete. ELBERT HUBBARD LITTLE JOURNEYS 10 VOL BOOK SET 1928
Only volumes 1-10 are available. Books themselves are in good condition with no writing. Bends, tears, stains. Bindings, also, in good condition. I think these books were barely ever read. Dust jackets have a few crimps and tiny tears on the edges and some very, very light staining here and there, probably from fingers over their life-not imprints of fingers, just a little different coloration like a bit of very light grime in a few spots. Volume 3 and 4 have small tears at the top of dust jacket. Volume 10 has the most damage of any of them to the dust jacket-see photo of top and the circle where Volume number shows through. Keep in mind they are 86 years old, but I don't see evidence of any kind of rough treatment.

It is quite large measuring around 16 1/2" X 11 3/4" X 2 1/2" and weighing around 10 1/2 lbs. It is my understanding that these books were printed annually and subscribers were supposed to destroy old issues once a new one came out so these are rare and hard to find. Overall. I believe the condition is very good with some wear on the outer edges and a few pages have minor tears. On the front lettering, it appears something hot may have cause a little damage. Special messages, and inauguration speeches from several presidents throughout United States history. There are ten numbered volumes each covering a set of presidents between the years of 1787 and 1902 and an eleventh index volume. It was copyrighted in 1897, by James D. Richardson, a representative from the state of Tennessee, and was published in 1911, by the Bureau of National Literature and Art. There is also a supplement version that covers individual presidents in depth and was published, also by the Bureau of National Literature, but in 1917. A typical volume has the Seal of the President emblazoned in the front and the ... moreback. The original first edition was printed in 1899 by the Government Printing office in Washington DC. Only 6,000 copies were printed and presented to members of the congress and senate for reference. Antique Book Set VICTOR HUGO'S WORKS 10 Vol Sterling Edition LES MIS Notre Dame
Offered for sale is this vintage or antique(not sure which) 10 Volume Book Set titled. VICTOR HUGO'S WORKS in very good to excellent overall conditions, varying slightly from book to book. There is very light wear and a few light scuffs and the pages have slightly yellowed from age, and that is the extent of the condition issues. The maroon cloth hardcovers look very good and the pages are all very tight to the spines. I think they were seldom opened, if ever! The books have strong tight hinges and are very clean. They measure about 8" by 5 1/2" and have a great look to them. They appear to be early 1900's but are not dated. They were published by University Press Company Publishers out of New York and this is the STERLING EDITION. THE DAYS DOINGS BOUND VOL.I collection book
The Days' Doings. An illustrated newspaper somewhat akin to The National Police Gazette, a subject which I've blogged on back here andhere. The Days' Doings does have its own flavor, though, and I very much enjoyed reading through this issue- this was one wild paper. Though he did not advertise the fact, The Days' Doings was published by Frank Leslie who had his first job in New York engraving woodcuts for P.T. Barnum's Illustrated News. Leslie took his skills and innovations in the rapid creation of wood engravings and applied them to a number of illustrated papers over the years(You may recall a WWI era issue of Leslie's Weekly I posted here, the magazine continuing on long after Leslie died in 1880) Leslie was a pioneering engraver but not much of a business man; nonetheless, he managed to circulate a great number ... moreof periodicals to the people of New York, and the giant(and often gorgeous) engravings in his publications appealed to even the unlettered, though my personal take is that a publication like The Days' Doings has a little something for everybody, even if it does apparently tend toward the sensational. In some ways, the paper reminds me of New York by Gaslight, which I haven't read since college, a fairly exploitative exploration of the seedier side of Gotham in which reader's might peek into from the safety of their reading room. But from what I've read here, Leslie's paper seems to mix in levity and at least some broad-mindedness into the exposes of urban life as well. The middle and upper classes do not go unscathed, either, as all segments of society are fair game for satire in this publication from the dawn of the Gilded Age, there is something democratic in this journalistic form, even as it engages in some very undemocratic mud-slinging. Or maybe this paper is just ugly theater.
