Welcome in! This leather bound book is 3 by 4 by 1.25 inches with the dust jacket in fair condition(has some tears on back) The author appears to be A.C. Pooshkey. The last name is in Russian characters and I think this would be a near pronunciation. Maybe not. The book title is in Russian as well but my elementary Russian doesn't stretch this far. The book is entirely in Russian language. The picture on the front is of two smiling well dressed gentlemen arm in arm with top hats. I found a lot of Interesting family history. Based on other books that were purchased with this one. The book lot that I purchased at auction seems to have come from the New Haven, Connecticut area. Mary ended up in that area herself. I cannot make any guarantees, but I did take the time to try to find Mary. It appears that she attended college or school in Chillicothe Ohio. More. Mary Ann Fitz Sawyier b. 27 December 1822. D. 17 May 1912 Mary Ann Fitz Sawyier was born on 27 December 1822 in Chillicothe. Ross Co. Ohio. She was the daughter of Nathaniel Sawyier and Pamelia Anderson. Mary Ann Fitz Sawyier died on 17 May 1912 in New Haven. Connecticut, ... moreat age 89. The condition is good with the following issues: The first four pages. End papers and title page and the dedication page all have been partially consumed by some insect or other varmint. The worst damage is to the front end papers and title page which have been mostly consumed. But luckily leaving the date and publisher's name. No other pages have this damage. Other issues are scuffing and wear to the covers and spines. A one inch break in the cover material ... moreat the top edge of the front cover, light browning to page edges and some light stains and foxing to pages.The binding is tight though the front cover has started to pull away. This is a 990 page volume. 7" x 10 1/2" with many detailed black and white illustrations throughout. If anyone would like more photos with better detail. The Days' Doings. An illustrated newspaper somewhat akin to The National Police Gazette, a subject which I've blogged on back here andhere. The Days' Doings does have its own flavor, though, and I very much enjoyed reading through this issue- this was one wild paper. Though he did not advertise the fact, The Days' Doings was published by Frank Leslie who had his first job in New York engraving woodcuts for P.T. Barnum's Illustrated News. Leslie took his skills and innovations in the rapid creation of wood engravings and applied them to a number of illustrated papers over the years(You may recall a WWI era issue of Leslie's Weekly I posted here, the magazine continuing on long after Leslie died in 1880) Leslie was a pioneering engraver but not much of a business man; nonetheless, he managed to circulate a great number ... moreof periodicals to the people of New York, and the giant(and often gorgeous) engravings in his publications appealed to even the unlettered, though my personal take is that a publication like The Days' Doings has a little something for everybody, even if it does apparently tend toward the sensational. In some ways, the paper reminds me of New York by Gaslight, which I haven't read since college, a fairly exploitative exploration of the seedier side of Gotham in which reader's might peek into from the safety of their reading room. But from what I've read here, Leslie's paper seems to mix in levity and at least some broad-mindedness into the exposes of urban life as well. The middle and upper classes do not go unscathed, either, as all segments of society are fair game for satire in this publication from the dawn of the Gilded Age, there is something democratic in this journalistic form, even as it engages in some very undemocratic mud-slinging. Or maybe this paper is just ugly theater.

I believe this antiquarian book to be from the 1700s. The soft vellum paper is high quality and the book is bound in leather. There is no publishing information that I could find but I believe it to be an 18th century book. Aesop's Fables" Wonderful short stories(moral lessons) from Aesop and there are many many illustrations. The book is in poor condition. It is dirty and the leather is worn. But all of the stories are here and they are all quite readable.
