Poor Richard Improved: Being an Almanack and Ephemeris of the Motions of the Sun and Moon[etc. for the Year of Our Lord 1772 By Richard Saunders. Philom. Philadelphia. Pennsylvania: D. Hall. And W. Sellers. A very rare original almanac from the famous Poor Richard's series. Started by Benjamin Franklin and bearing his pseudonym, Richard Saunders. The last Poor Richard's in which Franklin had direct involvement was the issue for 1766, so this came after his time but still remains a very desireable piece of Americana. This almanac is complete at 18 leaves(36 pages) with original stitching. The final leaf(providing road data) is slightly abraded. Affecting a little text. A stain, about an inch wide on average, runs throughout the bottom portion of the almanac. This is heaviest near the center of the almanac(as visible in the scan of ... morethe September calendar pages) and lessening towards the front and back of the almanac(as seen in the scan showing the Man of Signs zodiacal/ astrological woodcut) Overall the pages are fairly clean and fresh, with some light scattered foxing, and strongly printed. The pages have been trimmed but retain substabtial margins, compromising no text. No significant tears in the page edges, with the final leaf very lightly tattered along the edge. Scans provided are at 150% to show better detail. The almanac measures 6 5/8 inches high by 3 3/4 inches wide. A tattered. Detached front cover of plain brown paper accompanies this almanac, with"Almanack for The Year 1772" faintly written on it. This cover would have likely been added by the original owner and only this fragment survives. Benjamin Franklin wrote his autobiography from 1771 until 1790. This early issue in six volumes was printed and published by William Duane starting in 1809, vol 1-5, and strangely, the first volume was published in 1818. As far as I can determine. The leather bindings are original. The books are in exceptional condition; no missing pages, no lose pages, just in an unbelievable condition! Antique Print "the Art Of Making Money Plenty" By Benjamin Franklin
I have a really neat antique rebus by Benjamin Franklin. A rebus is a group of words and symbols that depict a story. The Art of Making Money Plenty" was written back around the revolution probably in response to how the king of England treated the colonies concerning money and such. Very interesting piece. Has been applied to a type of portable or lap desk/folder. I found this at an estate sale where I found some family history that helps me date this to the mid to late 1800's. There are some colorizations on some of the symbols which make it really stand out. Normal wear but cool piece. Measures 14 x 11. Good luck.
