The Club Men in Caricature series started in 1911 with Cleveland and we found one for each year through 1919. The book measures 11" x 8 1/4" and has 425 numbered pages plus an unnumbered 5 page roster. These books were generally presented to the persons whose caricatures appeared inside. It is bound in suede over boards and we listed it in shabby chic due to the age and wear of the cover. A few places are missing, and the pages have yellowed with age but totally commensurate with the age of this book. Some of the caricatures included are The Mayor of Baltimore, James H. Preston, President of Baltimore& Ohio Railroad, Daniel Willard, President of Jackson Lumber Co. Salisbury, Maryland W.P. Jackson, and Rev. Henry M. Wharton, D.D. Pastor of Brantly Baptist Church. All drawn by Ray O. Chans and associates, and Jay M. Caughey, Director for Associated Cartoonists from Baltimore, Maryland and published in 1915 by Norman T. A. Munder& Co. Classics Club 42 volumes Books Walter J. Black 1932-1951 HC book set NICE
set_id=880000500F" Hi! Up for auction is a collection of 37 first editions of Walter J. Blacks"Classics Club" dated between 1932 and 1951(several were not dated) Looking at all the bindings. I noticed no water damage, no odd smells and for the pages I reviewed, no writing. The colors of the binding cloths are all consistent and bright, with the only issue being some dust bunnies along the tops of the books and the pages are slightly off-white from age. I have tried to provide high resolution photos. The corner edges do have the expected handling bumps here and there but I saw nothing I'd call damage, especially for a set of book being 60 years old. There is one book that has some liquid? or cleaner damage on the cover as shown. There are maybe 2-3 that have some damage to the pages from something probably being dropped ... moreon it or vice versa. I found quite a few books that had the Classic club brochure that came with teh books inside! Very clean nice books, no funky smells. Paypal and M/os are accepted SHIPPING CAN BE MORE FOR WEST COAST.
