This is a large pewter plate by one of the finest families ... morethat manufactured American pewter. This pewter plate has a single reeded rim and shows good manufacture. The plate has a part of two impressed eagle marks. Both marks are worn and hard to read, but one can clearly recognize the "W", above the stars and eagle. There is also a "D" that can still be read below the eagle mark to the left. This would mean there is the name "WILLIAM", above the eagle and "DANFORTH", below the eagle. The second mark appearsto have a part of the name "DANFORTH" below the eagle. These marks are listed in "A Guide To American Pewter" by Carl Jacobs, mark number 122, page 81-82; where an 8" plate with this mark was valued at $65 back in 1957.

O! what beautiful scenery on the Miss it has beautiful banks, they look like cultivated fields set out with apple trees more than wild uncultivated land and they the Prairie land through Ill. and everything taken all together. I can honestly say, I think the western country has never been exaggerated as far as I have seen these are my first impressions. I’ve known the moment since I left home that I’ve had any regrets that I started for the west. I’ve not been home sick in the least had company all the way. There was an old Gent who was at the meeting in Balt. who came as far as Montreal. He was a real social old fellow. Just after I left Portland I I found a fellow going right up to St. Paul. He has a carpet bag of provisions and so did I and we went together and roomed together and so made it pleasant so my board bill was about $1.50 otherwise it would have been 12 or 15 dollars. My whole bill since I left Portland including every expense was $8.50. Doubtless you heard of the great accident between Montreal& Quebec on one of the steamers. Over 200 lives lost. Here's a beautiful solid oak Bible stand/easel. When I bought the stand I was told it came from a church in Scottville. Il. The picture depicting Christ carrying the cross came from an antique 19th century Bible and was later put on using decoupage. The brass eagle was also added to simulate Isaiah 40:31 This is a one of a kind piece and will really add some beauty to displaying your Bible Rear board with picture measures 19 3/4" across and 12 1/4" high. Bottom lip that supports Bible protrudes 1 1/2" The picture itself measures 12 1/2" wide X 7" high(removed from a 19th century family Bible) I refinished this stand and decoupaged the picture using mat-antique finish, very nice rustic finish to it. No less than 10 coats were used so picture will not get damaged when your Bible is put on it. At the end she relates how it lived til 1881. And then was preserved to hang in the hall of the Grand Army quarters in the Capitol at Madison, Wisconsin. This 8 by 10 inch stapled paper cover booklet with an applied illustration of crossed flags has 22 pages. The cover illustration of the crossed American flags has some spotting and a closed tear on the left side. The lower right corner is bumped and lightly creased. After the war, Cowles became a Republican and was involved in politics, including serving as the president of the 1868 N.C. Constitutional Convention. Elkville. North Carolina, is today Ferguson, North Carolina, in Wilkes County. Style aside. The story is well written for the younger reader, patently composed in dwarfish ... morechapters furnishing generic prolixity, and provides the essence of passionate and spunky welcoming granted Captain Charles A. Lindbergh on finalization of his transatlantic flight of 1927 to also harvest the Raymond Orteig $25,000 prize for this victory. His French. Belgian, English and US welcomings and receptions were lavishly described, along with named dignitaries and their stations, speech extracts, ribbons and medallions awarded, and replete with CALS intimate thoughts of his Mother and comrades. Moreover, the book also furnishes an overview of ancient to modern land and water travel methods, achieving air travel after the Wright brothers, and finally a look to the future of aviation. It is a pleasant entertaining read that has ample photographs to reveal the then stylish traditional clothing CAL had to procure(borrowings were frumpy) and his difficulty in finding proper-sized shoes. Much is made of his Swedish and Irish roots. Leading to his success(of course) his closeness to his Mother, and his humbleness and gratitude in recognition of the acclaim he received.
