The works selected for this volume were chosen after the the Universal Exhibition of Paris in 1878 which was"the most brilliant collection of works of art that had ever been assembled. with the up and coming artists who would have been influenced in their work by the Paris Exhibition. The works in this book were contemporary at the time of publishing. This book measures approx. 12.25" by 15" Very large! It is bound in leather and trimmed in gilt. The covers have separated from the book, and the corners are bumped and worn and the front upper right corner is bent. The pages inside are still bound together, and mostly clean, you can see yellowing along the edges and a very small number of stray pen or pencil marks. Here's an antique Catholic Douay Rheims Bible dated 1856. MASSIVE.measures 13 1/2" tall X 11" wide and 4 3/4" thick. Each leather cover is about 3/8" thick. Weighs about 20lbs. Family pages(MARRIAGES. BIRTHS, DEATHS) are all blank. Gold gilt on edges of covers too. 5 raised bands on spine. Many beautiful and unique illustrations. 8th picture shows only 2 of the 7 pages titled"FAC-SIMILES OF THE APPROBATIONS TO DUNIGAN'S EDITION OF HAYDOCK'S CATHOLIC FAMILY BIBLE" The front cover had a name on it at one time, it has since been removed and there is still a shadow there. This American edition includes the Apocrypha and many textual helps, including a concordance, index, the Psalms in metre, Smith's Dictionary of the Bible, and a variety of historical works. Front endpapers are loose, but otherwise in excellent condition for its age. Dore engravings are marvelous! This lot of several hundred letters features correspondence from the 1910's all the way through the 1960's. The letters are from Mr. Grossman's parents estate and his own. James served in the United States Navy during the 1950's and was stationed abroad the U.S.S. Samuel B. Roberts D.D. 823. Most of the letters are from the time of Mr. Grossman's military service. Here's a huge antique Catholic family Bible. Measures 13 1/2" tall X 10 3/4" wide and 3 3/4" thick. Tooled leather covers are 1/4" thick each. 5 raised bands on spine. The only date I found was when it was given to the owner 1873. DAVID HALL gilded on front cover. The front hinge is frayed but still solid and the Bible opens and closes easily. Binding is tight. Page with color picture and title page have some water staining. Found 1 page creased and torn on bottom corner(pictured) All scripture pages are beautifully framed with art work. This auction is for a wonderful antique(and massive) antique book(approx. 23" x 17"This Centennial edition of the New York Herald Tribune captures 100+ years of history in one volume(1841-1941) From the construction of the Brooklyn Bridge, to WWII, and everything in between. It also contains lots of advertisements, as well as both color and black and white special editions still attached in the back of the volume. The book appears in very good condition. The photographs were taken in low lighting. The pages are off-white to cream in color with dark, highly legible text. There is a stamp on the inside front cover indicating that the book was once part of the Forbes Library in Northhampton, MA.
