Age: This book was originally copyrighted 1887. And again in 1902. This edition is circa 1902. Condition: This book is in Good antique shape. There is some wear to the front and back covers. Mainly along the edges. The spine is in good shape, with only minor bumping on the edges. On the inside fly leaf, someone wrote: Presented to Walter Stottenstein by Zenas I.J. Balthaser. The pages have toned(darkened) with age, but they are still easily readable, and they are not brittle. The binding is still tight, and the pages are still attached to the spine. It shows some age but overall is pretty decent for being as old as it is. Another book is called"The Little Red Hen" and it's a picture story book. It was printed by the Abbott publishing company but does not show a year. By its looks I would estimate it's about as old as the first book. The last book is called The Picture and Rhyme Book and on the front it states it is"cloth like. It was published by the Saalfield publishing company in 1941. Missouri and given as a premium with there product. Records of the Firm were destroyed in the floods of 1903 and 1951 and Mr. Gordon T. Here is a antique 1889 book. Titled The Children's Hour Stories, Poems and Pictures. This has a copyright date of 1889. The book is 10 inches by 7 3/4 inches. There is some wear and staining do to being over a hundred years old. See pictures for more detail. These are from local estate sale. Antique Children's King James Bible
Thanks for looking! I wish I had more concrete info on the date of printing. But alas, all but a corner of the title page is torn out. The actual verse section appears to be intact, from Genesis to Revelation. There is one loose page in the front, but it's not certain whether this loose page is actually part of this Bible as the chapters are Roman numerals and in the book they're Arabic numerals. The Bible clearly shows its age. There are holes in the cover at the spine. The cover's wings are frayed and tearing away. The front pages that remain have foxing. Given the condition of the handwritten ink I conclude it to be early to mid 1800s but cannot substantiate this. Due to the rudimentary handwriting inside the covers I can conclude this was a woman's or a child's Bible. The book measures 12 1/2" X 9 1/2” The binding is sewn. It is loose but intact. The pages are yellowed but still good. There are a few pencil marks on the cover and on one of the songs.
