Uncle Tom's Cabin is a hard bound Little Folk's Edition. There is no date in the book but it is very old. The book measures 6 3/4 by 9 1/2 inches. There are 62 pages, not all of them are numbered! The book has lots of illustrations and most of them are shown. The book has condition issues, the covers are worn, the spine is starting to loose its covering on the top and bottom(see photo) The pages are yellow with age and show spotting in some places, the pages are becoming fragile, but the book is tight and all the pages are intact. It was published by Charles E. Graham& Co. New York. There is one color illustration in the front of the book. This is a nice vintage Child's edition of a great Southern classic.

This is just an incredible little book titled"The Devout Child"with"Prayers arranged for Little Children. Compiled by Approved Sources" It was first printed in 1924 by"Patrick Cardinal Hayes,Archbishop New York, New York August 8th 1924" then passed by some censor it seems, and this was Printed in Belgium by"Michliniae,14 Julii,1936, Er.Jos.Carton de Wiart, vic.gen. Both appear to be Church Publications as there is a cross and religious men involved in the Printing. There is some damage. Very strange, either my Mom decided to lose her religion at 6 and tried to cut this, or somehow it got a slit in the Front that goes almost to the back. It is a very strange injury to a book. As the photos show, it is indeed a little cut, but it is a little book. The slice on the cover is about 1/2 inch, but as the photos ... moreshow, it does not pose a hindrance to reading in any way. The binding is stiff, and I have not forced it. This was my Mom's at about 5. So 1940, judging by the handwriting and phone# w/ Letters. It is Number 1590 of how many? I have no idea. I found a few pieces, like this old medical item, in one of the boxes. This sale is for a piece of Victorian History. Seen through the eyes of a child, this book is a window into the life of a child, over 100 years ago. I have looked at every page several times since finding it. And I love the impressive quality of the penmanships demonstrated. I did not show every page, and although there are blank pages the book has sentiments throughout the whole book. There is also a very old, maybe a tin-type picture that was found in the book, but I could not make out any details from the picture. Wouldn't it be wonderful if it the picture could be restored, showing the girl the book is written to, but I have no idea if this is even possible. The other romantic thought that I have when I find these books. And wouldn't it be wonderful if the descendents of this young lady could be found. I know that this would be a miracle, but it would still be grand. Some information gleaned from the book include: The little girl's name is Etta* One sentiment is from Julia Cole. Pleasant View Indiana* John Bodle was a young friend writing March 21. 1888* Her sister is Cora Meurphy. This wonderful antique child's picture book is entitled AUNT LOUISA'S BIG PICTURE SERIES. MY MOTHER, published in New York by McLoughlin Bros. Hand written on the lower edge of the cover in pencil MAY H WAGAR 1877. I am assuming this was a gift for May in 1877. The book has five wonderful colored prints of mothers with children through out the years with a verse to go a long with the picture. The book is a soft cover with string binding. It measures apprx. 10 3/4" x 9 1/4" The first verse starts on the inside cover, no printing on the backs of the prints. Last verse is on the inside of the back cover. The back cover advertises Aunt Louisa's 36 children's books along with New Paper Dolls, Dolly Varden Dolls, and Chiromagica for family amusement. The book is in fair well used condition for it's age, soiling with ... moresome foxing, separation of the covers and some pages, the cover was taped at some point in time, the back upper corner of the cover is missing. The illustrations lead me to believe that this was probably created to be a children's reader. Book was published on a mimeograph machine made from a typewriten copy with Hebrew fonts. There are approximately 7 printed pages and the book is about 7" x 8-1/2" Paper covers with riveted or grommeted binding. Condition: heavy soiling. Civil War Era "The Union ABC " Child's Old Alphabet Book Very Rare
Delightful Civil War-era child’s primer. The Union ABC” published in Boston by Degen, Estes& Company, bound in thread. This patriotic booklet, measuring 6¼" x 8½” is printed in red and blue and was meant to teach youngsters the alphabet and a history lesson, as well. Some of the entries include: H is for Hardtack you scarcely can gnaw. J is for Jig which the Contrabands dance. N is for Negro no longer a slave. P is the President who ruled the great nation, T is a traitor that was hung on a tree, and U is the Union our Soldiers did save. The back cover is missing. I bought little booklet at an estate sale in Texas and it was from the Lincoln family. It is amazing that this little booklet has survived all of these years. You will have a very hard time finding another one like this. The people that I bought it from said that ... morethe family was related to Abram Lincoln. The booklet has been well read and is in very rough condition with some smudges and corner bends and some of the pages are torn.The last two pages are missing. As old as this book is I am surprised that only the two pages are missing. This is a very rare little booklet with a picture for each alphabet letter(P is the President" shows Abraham Lincoln) that some Civil War collector would treasure. I am not an expert on Civil War memorabilia. So please ask questions if you need more info about this vintage item, and I'll do my best to answer them. I have taken a lot of pictures so you can see the condition of this book so you can be the judge of the condition. According to the family that I bought it from it was printed around the time of the Civil War. This is problem an item that should really probably be in a museum.

Offered for sale is this early 1872 book titled. THE CHILD'S SPEAKER, BEING A COLLECTION OF PIECES FOR RECITAL IN PRIMARY SCHOOLS by Charles Northend and published by A.S. Barnes and Company out of New York and Chicago. It is in good overall condition, very good considering the age! It is a wonderful collection of poetry and verse all geared to children for recitation. The pages are tight to the spine and very pliable and readable. There is light yellowing and very light foxing and the pages are better than expected considering the age and the fact that it was a children's book. It is signed by a previous owner and has some light penciling on the last blank page. The book measures about 6" by 4" and has 178 pages. The textured cloth hardcovers have wear on the edges and are lightly scuffed and the spine has fading. The hinges ... morestill operate well as this is a very readable book.
